Hope you both feel better. Does your son have asthma? Just wondering because it takes him a while to get over colds. My son when he was little took him alot to get over colds. I would end up taking him to the doctor just to make sure what was going on. He always coughed alot and I couldn't tell if it was cold or asthma acting up.

I used to get what I thought were colds when I was younger(I have asthma) and I learned later in life it was allergies and sinus problems. can they check him to see WHY his immune system is low? mine is low too so the dr told me to take some echinacea pills to boost my immune system(they did all kinds of tests to see why my immune system is "compromised yet they cant find anything) although they didnt check me for cancer or anything like that. but i will tell you that they seem to help.I used to get colds, cold sores, etc and now I get the beginnings of a cold sore but it never forms completely.so they are helping quite a bit in my opinion and I used to have problems staying awake during the day but dont really have that problem now unless its a dark dreary day . maybe it would be a good idea to have the dr test him for different things? JMO I understand if its asthma or something like that but something needs to be done for this poor kid and him being sick all the time I know the toll it takes on him Ive been there and hope they can help him and he gets better soon.

yea its from his asthma that he gets sick so often....... there is nothing they can do for him that hasnt already been done.....i swaer im at the drs office more than home lol..... only becasue i get so paranoid about his health i take him EVERY time he has a sniffle.......and tje astmas does the same thing to him Eyore.... i hate it,i hate seeing him like this.... i have asthma to so every time he gets sick i get sick my immune system is very weak also..... for instance i now have the sore throat and i know i have an ear infection..... drs appt at hopefully 8 am

how old is your son? I have asthma (very severe without my current meds) and a low immune system and I hardly ever get a cold, Ive had one infection in 12 years and I harldy ever get sore throats. sounds like the sore throats could be sinus problems(as well as the sniffles) or it can be allergies. is your son able to take advair or anything like that for his asthma? if hes getting a lot of astma problems its probably being caused by allergies/ sinus problems.(IE:sinuses are draining on his bronchial tubes therefore causing inflammation) Ive almost died a few times with my asthma and since they have put me on advair and accolate I have had no problems with an asthma attack in a few years. my 14 yr old son is on advair 150/50(lowest dose) and singulair and he has No problems with his asthma either its been years since hes needed to go to the ER for an attack. hes not had an attack since then either. also if he is on any type of inhaler (like albuterol, proventil etc -rescue inhaler) please make sure he isnt using more than the prescribed dosage I at one time years ago used so much that the dr who admitted me to the er told me I was almost in cardiac arrest because too much of the rescue inhaler was used and it speeds up your heart. they wanted to put a tube down my throat to help me breath. if your son is having too many problems like it sounds he needs checked for allergies, sinus problems(by an ENT) if you havent done that already.because there has to be something they can do for him- take him to a specialist(lung or asthma) if you havent done so get a second opinion.

tracey i am very familar with asthma as i have it also and it sucks.... so i can relate ,when i was 18 i was in icu for 2 weeks they told my fiancee(now hubby) and grandmother that i wasnt goin to make it,i cant remeber anything except begging them not to let me die......he has horrible sinus problems and take claritin, albuterol inhaler and nebulizer, singular, and flovent....he is 8 years old and has been this way siince he was 9 mths old... we have had all teh allergy testing done and nothing comes up.... it sucks... he has always been like this since he was a baby..... it takes forever for his colds to go away...the sore throat is also part of his sleep problem they think he has sleep apnea(sp)and they are talking about removing his tonsils due to it but they are still checking into it.....i can keep a good handle on his asthma until he gets sick then it flairs an attack and takes much work to keep under control..... thanks for your advice

maybe the singulair isnt doing much good? I know it made my breathing problems worse while I was on it but does great for my son and my daughter uses it for her allergies as well as zyrtec. did they do the allergy testing when he was off his allergy meds? because when I went they told me NOT to take any meds so they could get a positive reading.Im just trying to think of ways to help by explaining what I know.also maybe since his sinuses are so bad they can put him on nasal sprays? Im on astelin and nasonex(as my daughter is also) and since I started them(my allergy dr put me on them) I have had NO sinus infections, no stuffiness, sneezing, headaches, etc. I was really bad with sinus problems thats the only thing I take for my sinuses and for me it works wonders. my dr also told me to get saline nasal spray and use it twice a day before using my nasal sprays to clean out any excess mucous in the sinuses.I also have slept on 2 pillows since I can remember. I used to be in the ER as a kid sometimes 6 times a night to get adrenalline shots and used to have to sleep in a recliner just so I could breath. i had asthma at 3 and wasnt put on meds till I was 11 when they hospitalized me for the first time.also they say PA is one of the worst states for asthmatics(you do live in pa right?)has your son also ever been on a steroid? like prednisone for a short time? if that works a steroid inhaler might just be what he needs. I dont know they are just some ideas to try to get him to where he can lead a little bit more productive life with asthma and sinus problems. Im a mom of a son with asthma too so I know the routines and the trouble we go through.

we have the steroid inhaler(flovent) he has nasonex ( i knew i forgot one) he has done steroids... the singular has beena miracle for him he use to be admitted to the hospital 2-3 ttimes a month and since the meds he hasnt been and he started meds 3 years ago///
