I was going to ask the same thing because I'm gonna try to make some this evening. :)

Also, what did you pout yours in to let it cool so you could break it up? Like a foil lined cookie sheet or something?

We also have snow. Supposed to get anywhere from 6 - 12 inches today (into tomorrow). We have a few out there already.

ROCK CANDY

2 c. sugar
1/2 c. corn syrup
1/2 c. water
1/2 tsp. flavored oil
Food coloring

Cook to 300 degrees first 3 ingredients. Remove from fire, add flavored oil and food coloring. Pour quickly onto greased cookie sheet. Cool slightly and cut into small pieces. Flavored oil, could be any flavor desired

Did the Pam make it greasy or taste funny? I seen where some recipes say to spray it with Pam and some said to use the powdered sugar.

Here is another recipe I found...REVIEWS (14) 5 Stars

INGREDIENTS
3 3/4 cups white sugar
1 1/2 cups light corn syrup
1 cup water
1 tablespoon orange, or other flavored extract
1/2 teaspoon food coloring (optional)
1/4 cup confectioners' sugar for dusting

DIRECTIONS
In a medium saucepan, stir together the white sugar, corn syrup, and water. Cook, stirring, over medium heat until sugar dissolves, then bring to a boil. Without stirring, heat to 300 to 310 degrees F (149 to 154 degrees C), or until a small amount of syrup dropped into cold water forms hard, brittle threads.

Remove from heat and stir in flavored extract and food coloring, if desired. Pour onto a greased cookie sheet, and dust the top with confectioners' sugar. Let cool, and break into pieces. Store in an airtight container.

Look at this....One of the reviews for the reipe I just posted...

I'm just a beginner, so I thought this would be a good one to try. Its great! With food coloring, its very pretty. Instead of flavored extract, I added a tbl of water to a packet of kool aide (cherry) and put that in. Yummy!

I make this for Xmas and color it black. Then put it in little red bags, so it looks like a bag of coal. :D

That is exactly what I wanted to do to my kids!! :lol

Do you cool yours the same way? In a pan sprayed with Pam?

I use powered sugar unless I'm making it black, then I use the reg Pam. That way it's more coal-looking.

Brrr, my poor hubby has been driving in this mess for two days now. He says that our freightliner is carrying about 3000 pounds of ice. He has seen alot of car wrecks, be careful out there. Glad I'm in the balmy south, Arkansas its 36 outside. LOL

We have 5 inches of snow out there right now. Its still coming down but switching to ice from time to time. We are supposed to get some more ice tonight, then back to snow and snow until sometime tomorrow.

Your bags of candy look so cute Earnhardt. I usually make up treat bags for all of the kids in the family every year. They love it and actually look forward to it every year. :)

I just made a batch of cinnamon and a double batch of spearmint. I think tomorrow I will make some watermelon and maybe some grape or cherry. My house smells so good!! I used a recipe that was on the back of the flavoring oils. :)

I put mine on a pan with Pam and they turned out fine. I wasn't sure about it making them greasy or whatever since I had never made it before but they turned out well.

man where are you finding all of your extracts, I'm so jealous, it's so hard to find them out here. I got peppermint, rootbeer and cinnamon, I desperately want grape (my fave flavor) but that seems to be a no go. It's not fair! :sob: I'm going to have to order them online *pouts* glad yours has turned out so well, I'm gonna be making some on tuesday. :D

and whoo hoo on the snow! just keep it there ;) I've had enough snow for awhile. :)

easy to make wasn't it.....lol....

I put alot of powder sugar on aluminum foul and it came off really easy and you can shake off the powder sugar if it is to much.....I tried powder sugar on wax paper....never again...lol.......I just fold my sides up on the foil and and lay it on the counter and it sets up really fast.

I put the powder sugar on the aluminum foil before I pour the candy out on it

walmart usually has extracts in the craft section with the cake decorating stuff and candy making stuff.
