How many of you have had surgeries and what was it if you want to discuss it? I have had so many I lost count. I started with my first one when I was 29. I always forget how bad it hurts when I have surgery again. The pain lasted longer with the surgeries but I think the birth of my first child was about as bad as any of my surgeries. Having my colon removed was an awful surgery, really bad but the bone surgeries are worse I think. All the surgeries I have had in Alabama except one. The one surgery I had in North Carolina should have been extremely painful but they gave me so much pain med I never had any pain except in the ER when they had to pull on my foot to set the two bones I had broken. I have always wondered if they give more pain med in NC or just why I had less pain. My throat surgery was bad for a short time. It was nothing like what Shirl is having but learning to swallow again was scary. I know others have had surgery. Anyone want to tell us what you found so painful?

I've had two c-sections, a cyst removed from my ovary and I'm fixing to have a hysterectomy. My second c-section hurt the worst. The cyst being removed wasn't too bad.

I had leg surgery 4 years ago i fell in the mud while walking my 2 dogs and landed on my leg and broke the tibia and fibula(front shin bone and bone behind my knee . they had to put a rod and pins in it. I think breaking my leg was worse than childbirth.

You guys CONSTANTELY SCARE THE SH*T OUT OF ME with these surgery stories. I have NEVER had to have surgery. KNOCK ON WOOD - I have NEVER had to stay more than a few hrs in hospital (dislocated knee)

Where do you want me to start? I have scars from my head down to my left leg from surgeries that were necessary after a triple rollover in a Geo Metro back in 1998. And I'm prepping for another surgery to have my thyroid removed due to Grave's disease, a form of hyperthyroidism.

oh...I forgot to mention I had a craniotomy done at 6 weeks old...yes, 6 weeks so they could put in a suture on the right side of my skull. The bone was solid, no suture on that side so my brain could grow.

I had the same thing 4 years ago. But I just stood up and my leg broke. The bones came through the skin and almost cut my foot off. This was the surgery that I said I had no pain. I was in the hospital about 8 days and then they sent me to therapy for another couple of weeks. The only pain I remember was in the ER. My break was lower than yours, closer to my foot. I also have pins and a plate. The dr came in and said I am going to see that you can walk again. Until he said that, it hadn't entered my mind that I wouldn't. I just thought I was broke and the hospital would fix it. They did.

ok sweets, here's another one lol I had a nephrectomy in 99 (kidney removed) due to cancer. no scopes, I was cut from front to back. then in 02 they found a spot on my lung during a routine check and did a biopsy by scoping in 3 different places in my side, cutting a chunk outta the lung and stapling it together. To me that was worse than the kidney surgery. Up til the 99 surgery I had only been in hospital to give birth 24 yrs b4..38 hours labor......thought I had paid my dues lol I hope to never have to have any more surgery.....I hate it and hate being in the hospital. But, sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do!

omg I've had some , but not near as bad as ya'll. I had my appendix out in 1978. Then I broke my foot in '95. Had to have 2 screws implanted as the bone twisted (long story). I had a pinkie finger joint fused do to arthritis. Had pins sticking out on that one and dr took them out too soon and had to redo the surgery. There is the old hysterectomy in 2001. And of course, one month ago, I had the back surgery in which they put the "cage" in my spine. Hope I'm through for the rest of my life.

The only major surgery I've had, is having a reacurring cyst removed on my tail bone, and having my tubes tied, cut, burned.. My heart goes out to all of you, for everything you have had to endure. Mine is nothing compared to that.

Two back surgeries ('06 and '07). Unfortunately it feels like I may be working on the 3rd one now along with possible breast surgery. I don't like getting older. I'm ONLY 35 now. What's gonna happen when I'm 45???????

Had my tonsils removed when I was 9. Hysterectomy when I was in my 20's.
Back surgery in my 40's that was just a few years ago. I had a lump removed from my breast this past year.
I think that is it for surgeries.
I did have a kidney stone blasted once but that isn't surgery.

Numerous surgeries. Worst pain was when my small intestine twisted upon itself. Complications from that and a wrong diagnosis and I was in pretty bad shape.

Broke my ankle in three places back in February. First time I've broken anything. Now I have four pins in my ankle. I've had other things hurt a lot worse. Think I was just in shock.

Gall bladder surgery last year. No pains but have ended up with problems ever since from that surgery.

OUCH! I know that must be awful. I had about 20" inches taken out of my small intestine back in '93, so I can only imagine how bad your surgery must have been.

toncils when I was 12, 2 vaginal births (hey they were natural no drugs that so counts), fluid drained from my ovaries 2 weeks after the birth of my daughter, appendex while they were in there.

ok my husband beats that he is a diabetic and had an infection that had to be drained from his arm, it was so bad when they opened it up it was 2 cms away from being completely through his arm like a big hold, that I had to pack with gauze till it healed- oh how gross is that!

2005 I had biopsy, D&C, and a few other things.

In 2006 I had hysterectomy, appendix, and galbladder removed... The appendix was the worst, I had to wear a wound vac for 6 weeks, the pain was something else.

2001 I had a Mastectomy

1999 I had plastic surgery on my face, three vertabres shattered, ribs, jaw wired shut..all from a drunk driver.

Hysterectomy in 97, carpal tunnel release surgeries on both wrists in 99, my worst was in 2005 when I had to have 11 inches of my colon removed and my appendicts because of colon cancer in 05. If you have a history of colon cancer in your family or are over 50 please get a colonoscopy. I didn't listen and nearly waited till it was to late. Also had surgery to have a port inserted in my chest for chemo .
