It seems the norm these days is to be PC. Ahhh, doesn't matter what you do as long as it makes you happy. I think being PC has gone too far and has done much damage to us as a society. I blame it on the 70's:star: ...lol.

Have to agree that it's gone entirely too far.

Are you being sarcastic with this question? or do you really feel that it doesn't matter what you do as long as it makes you happY?

Actually it started in the 60s. Heard of the hippie movement? Free love/sex and the pill. Might have been a morsel of a good idea there but it has been taken to the extreme. At least I hope it is at it's extreme---we will see in the future.

Explain Political Correctness! Everyones definition is different.
PC =

Having to watch everything you say and do because you may otherwise hurt someone's feeling. But, on the other hand I am not given the same respect.

The majority having change their views to accept the views and beliefs of the few.

Forcing the responsibility of a group of people onto the shoulders of those that would otherwise have no responsility to said group of people.

I could go on and on with the definition of being PC. I was watching a Barry Manilow special on PBS the other night (yes, I like Barry Manilow) and he was talking about the song "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother". I got to thinking, that seems to be the theme song for the PC movement.

Everyone complains about how much the government has its hand in our day to day lives, but come on folks, permission was handed to them by the bleeding heart society. And every day we give away a bit more of our lives to the government by all of the social programs that are out there. Everyone cries that the government shouldn't have a say in one thing because it is a personal choice and then they turn around and demand that the government does something about something else because it is the personal choice of the few and it should be force upon the majority.

What ever happened to the concept that the majority ruled? I know there are plenty of things that my representatives vote for that I don't agree with. But of course the majority of my representatives I did not vote for and the others were the lesser of 2 evils.

I am certainly far from being policitcally correct & alot of people take that as being bitchy! LMAO!

I think that most people think that alot of it has gone too far, like SEASAME STREET on dvd, they have a warning on the 1st seasons (yeah, the ones we grew up w/) saying that these are meant for adults, not children. WHY?!?!?

I grew up with the Looney Tunes, today most kids have never really seen the classic Looney Tunes we grew up with. Like the ones where Bugs is fighting the Japs (totally not PC). But then kids now watch DrangonBall Z, etc.. which I think is a zillion times worse than anything Bugs & Daffy ever did.... Plus, the Looney Tunes made me the comdey genius I am today., DragonBall Z is not going to make anyone smarter or funnier., but violent ... IMHO.

Oh yeah, didn't you hear? They are going after Oscar the Grouch and Cookie Monster!! Nothing is sacred anymore. They are even going after Santa because he does not set a good physical example for children.

My daughter loves the whole Dave Chappelle routine about Oscar the Grouch. She has a t-shirt with Oscar on it that says Bitch I live in a Trashcan. Totally off topic, but it just jumped into my head.

Sorry.

That's just like this new lawsuit in TN. There was this one school, where in the morning a group of parents would get together and pray. They didn't ask people to pray with them, they weren't in a classroom, they didn't force people to stand around and listen to them. They just got in thier own little circle and prayed that they day went well for everyone, etc. Well, one person decided that they didn't like it. Now, the ACLU, on behalf of this person, is saying that the school district was violating the seperation of church and state. Come on people. They weren't trying to get you to pray with them, they just want to be able to. Isn't that infringing on their rights?

"Meet Me At the Pole" has been going on for a long time now and it's legal so no one stops it. They should get it going at their school.

That was actually one of the things they were mad about. They didn't like the national day of prayer, and they were aslo mad that they heard about prayer groups, or the meet me at the flag things, and that they were being advertised as groups or gatherings. They don't even want any sort of prayer or religious groups advertised at the school. Nevermind that people DON'T HAVE to join, it's just like any other sort of groups at school. I remember having groups for all different kids of religions at my school. I see no problem with it, it's not like anyone is being forced to do anything, it is mearly a gathering of people who do have something in common. It's just ridiculous!

Anyone remember back when they gave the Pillsbury Dough Boy a darker tint to make him more PC?

I agree that PC has gone too far. Blacks are "African American" but what if they are Canadian? I've never heard the term "African Canadian" or "African French". Ditto Asians, Mexicans, etc. Fat people are "overweight" Nope, I'm just fat thankyouverymuch. Handicapped people are "physically or mentally challenged" or worse "special". It's just gotten ridiculous.

What about "person hole cover" instead of man hole cover. Can't offend the non man persons that go under the street. Or employees at stores being forced to wish "Happy Holidays" so they don't offend anyone? Wish me a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah or whatever you celebrate, don't really see how it would offend anyone. It's getting really old.

On the Merry Christmas issue, it rather makes me irrate when companies have the policy that their employees can't say Merry Christmas. I personally say Merry Christmas and sometimes I say Happy Holidays. The reason I say Happy Holidays isn't so I won't offend anyone, but there are 2 holidays coming up, Christmas and New Year. Of course the other holidays are out there. Each year I usually give out cards to my customers. There are a couple that I know are Jewish and I give them the pretty cards that say Happy Holidays.

Did that make sense?...lol. Basically, I am not being PC, I am being inclusive.

On the "holidays" I can just say, "Happy Holy Days to you to" LOL

Got this in my email---

'Twas the month before Christmas when all through our land,
Not a Christian was praying nor taking a stand.
Why the PC Police had taken away,
The reason for Christmas - no one could say.

The children were told by their schools not to sing,
About Shepherds and Wise Men and Angels and things.
It might hurt people's feelings, the teachers would say
December 25th is just a " Holiday "
Yet the shoppers were ready with cash, checks and credit
Pushing folks down to the floor just to get it!
CDs from Madonna, an X BOX, an I-pod
Something was changing, something quite odd!

Retailers promoted Ramadan and Kwanzaa
In hopes to sell books by Franken & Fonda.
As Targets are hanging their trees upside down
At Lowe's the word Christmas - was no where to be found.

At K-Mart and Staples and Penny's and Sears
You won't hear the word Christmas; it won't touch your ears.
Inclusive, sensitive, Di-ver-si-ty
Are words that were used to intimidate me.

Now Daschle, Now Darden, Now Sharpton, Wolf Blitzen

On Boxer, on Rather, on Kerry, on Clinton
At the top of the Senate, there arose such a clatter
To eliminate Jesus, in all public matter.

And we spoke not a word, as they took away our faith
Forbidden to speak of salvation and grace
The true Gift of Christmas was exchanged and discarded
The reason for the season, stopped before it started.

So as you celebrate "Winter Break" under your "DreamTree"
Sipping your Starbucks, listen to me.
Choose your words carefully, choose what you say
Shout MERRY CHRISTMAS, not Happy Holiday !
