View Full Version : Prayers for my little sister, please

If you could say a quick prayer for my little sister, I would appreciate it. If you have a prayer chain could you add Holly Martin to it.

I got a call from my Mom, my sister was rushed to the ER, her heart rate was 40BPM, they are doing a temporary pacemaker and found one of her arteries at 98% blocked, so they are doing a stint, she may have to have open heart surgery.

We are now going to have to do an exhaustive search for her birth family to see if there is medical history involved.

As I was typing the above I just got an update. Holly has a Pulmonary embolism. When they went in to do the stint, for what they thought was plaque, they found it was blood clots. They cleaned them out best as they could without doing more damage, and they didn't do the stint because it could move them to other areas. She will have to totally change her lifestyle. The Cardiologist said that all the former drug use (she is a recovering addict 2 years clean and sober) did a number on her arteries and they are not healthy. He said that if she didn't change how she eats, drinks and lives, she will be back within a year for open heart surgery if another emobolism doesn't kill her first. She isn't even 37 and has a 4 year old little girl. She is in the cardiac ICU and will be there for at least 48 hours.

Thank you again for your good thoughts and prayers, Heather

Your sister is in my thoughts and prayers. I hope that you can find out her medical history and that she will make the necessary changes. She is so young to be going through this. Hugs.

The cardiologist came to see her this morning. He told her that there is permanant damage to her arteries, and from what he can see, they weren't that great to begin with. He gave her a 50/50 shot at having another embolism within a year, even with meds and diet changes. He also said she should prepare herself for some form of heart surgery. She is scared (as we all are). I am hoping that the doctors blunt talk doesn't have her go the opposite way in futility, my sister has a pretty big self destruct button. Thank you all for your good thoughts and prayers. My family is greatful.

I talked to Holly tonight and she was in really good spirits. I think this might finally be "scared straight, Holly style". I was teasing her that the drama queen in her wouldn't allow for a Thanksgiving Holiday, it had to be a Hollyday. She said she was getting even for my little cancer dramatics. She said her cardiologist is Doogie Howser, that he looks like he is 12. I am really hopeful, as I was afraid with the doctors dire talk with her, she might go back to old habits, but she sounds determined to go forward. They are releasing her from ICU tomorrow and she should be in a regular room for 24 hour observation, but she will have to make some serious changes. No smoking, diet changes and so on. I am greatful she has been clean and sober these last two years, and am confident that this may have been the kick in the pants she needed. She is talking about going back to church and getting her life on track. She wanted me to express her gratitude for the prayers, good thoughts and good wishes. She is humbled by it all.
