I picked up a virus on my computer by being stupid and clicking a link in another forum. I have been told that the only way I can recover anything in my computer is to reformat and reload my operating system. That is where my problem is. The computer was loaded with Windows 2000 Professional. My older daughter 'had' the software, and now can't find it. Is there ANYONE out there that might have an old copy (with the code) and be willing to sell it to me at a 'reasonable price'? Please IM me and I will get back to you as soon as I can. Thank all of you in advance. I hope someone can help me, I hate not having my own computer. :tearhair

I don't have the CD, but I do know how to get your code!! Go to http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html and run their free audit. Then look under software licenses, and your code for Windows 2000 will be there. Hope this helps if you can get a copy of the 2000 CD.

Have you tired removing the virus? Or do you know the name of the virus?

tried to remove the virus, did it 3 times in fact and it came back worse each time. am afraid now to even try to start it up. it was called "Worm.Win32.NetSky" that is what the microsoft protection kept telling me.

Here is Norton's removal tool for it.
You could also try taking your computer back to a time before the virus got on it. Don't know if that will work or not though.

When you reformat your computer you wipe the drive clean. Reformatting deletes everything and you will not be able to recover any of your files. If you save files before you reformat you don't know if you are saving the virus also and if you reload any saved files back onto your computer you could be putting the virus back on. There is usually a way to remove a virus or lock it in quarantine without reformatting.

Yes and this works, I've used it several times on my friends PC (Her BF is always getting a virus on it.) But If you can't get it to work, try going to some place like
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/programs.php
they have software that might help, plus they have help forums where they walk you thru all the steps.
