I am so angry with Food Lion right now I am seeing red. I have always done 95% of my grocery shopping at Food Lion and have put up with slow checkout lines and rude cashiers because of their prices and convient locations. From now on I will shop somewhere else as today when I wrote a check for my groceries, the clerk called a manager over. I was embarassed and humiliated thinking there was a problem with my check although I had now idea why. I asked the manager and cashier what the problem was and was told....You write too many checks to Food Lion and the manager has to override it. Hello, being a loyal customer who spends $100's every month and almost always write at least one check a day to Food Lion for what I buy if not two and they complain about me writing too many. I could have understood if I had bounced a check or two but I have never written a bad check to Food Lion or any one. Don't mean to ramble but I am furious and wrote to Food Lion about the situation and told them I was posting on this board since I'm sure one customer doesn't matter to them but if many start boycotting or writing them then maybe they will rethink their treatment of regualr customers. Hopefully nobody else ever experiences the embarassement and humiliation I did this evening.

Although I disagree with your views on Hillary, I agree with you about Food Lion (slow lines, etc.) and I am so sorry this happened to you. Ridiculous!

I would be mad too, horrible way to treat a good customer! You should go to Planet Feedback maybe they would get the msg that way!

I would be furious too - I write checks at my local grocery store atleast 4 times a week (sometimes more) and if they ever told me that I wrote too many checks then I would go elsewhere too -

have you tried emailing the main headquarters of Food Lion and complaining -

Most of the grocery chains that i have worked for, they have it set up at the main office on how many checks a person can write in a day & week, and send it down to all the stores like that. At one place i worked at every one that worked there & customer's could only write 2 checks a day, if we or cust wrote more a manager had to over ride the check. You have to remember that ppl steal checks, close out acct & still have checks and go on a check writing spree & have no money to cover them & the company's loose out on that money and food. So they put a limit on how many checks a person can write in a day or week & its set up in the registers that way & only a manager with a key or code # can over ride it. The clerk should not of said because you write so many checks she needed a manager, she could of just explained the policy that the company has & that after so many checks a manager than has to over ride it & that it has nothing to do with you.

I hate Food Lion! I have had to return more bad food there than anywhere. I think the prices are high too. If it wasn't the closest grocery store, I'd never go!

That is INSANE, you need to the to the bbb.com and planetfeedback.com and tear them a new one, if that doesn't work write a letter to the editor at your local newspaper, that is INSANE...never heard of too many good checks!

we shop at FL too and we have been getting bad chocolate drink there.....the first one tasted like mold and last weeks tasted like dirt....getting rediculous...I am an hr way so just cant take it back but I do let them know.

wow that is ridiculous they are treating such a loyal customer that way. I wonder if you used a debit card if they would say the same thing... after all the money comes from the same place :rolleyes: btw, I've never been or seen a food lion but if I do, I'll just pass them ;)

I am suprized about your food lion! I go to the one here in TN, and they are always great. I actually HAD bounced a check, had paid it, but hadn't cleared their computer yet, and the manager did an override so I could write a check then for my groceries. The people are always great there, even nice and helpful to the kids when they go in. Maybe because it's a smaller town? I would definitely go to the website and complain higher than store management if I were you. That is so wrong.

I can understand that but everybody at the Food Lion knows me as it's only a block from the house and the policy is stupid. The clerk was new and the way she and the manager (who knows me) handled the situation was out right embarassing. From now on I'll go to the Bi-Lo across the street, Wal-Mart, or the new Lowes grocery store. If Food Lion doesn't want my business or money then I'll give it to someone else. I did write an email to Food Lion's Cooporate office voicing how I felt. Obviously they forget word of mouth and the Internet can carry a strong message. As I said, I'm sure Food Lion could care less about what I spend there but if enough people stop shopping then maybe they won't be able to open a new store every two or three blocks. I realize it isn't a national chain but a regional chain so many people on this board may not be familiar with them.

To all who understand and offered their comments. Thanks. I believe in consumer satisfaction at any level and when I'm angry with a business I follow all levels within my control including refusing to give them another dime of my money. I will go to planetfeedback and post a complaint with them. That is one area I hadn't thought of.

I would complain too, I dont know what they have set up for ppl who write checks, only said what i know from working in the food chains here. And what they both said to you was very un called for. Some place's dont care if you bad mouth them in person or on the net. I use to work for a jerk like that & let me tell you i have been bad mouthing the place i use to work at every chance i can :)
