I am pretty good at photo editing and enhancing...I have several programs I use and I can do lots of cool stuff with them. BUT! I cannot make a crappy photo into a 'perfect studio portrait'! I can edit out blemishes, scars, wrinkles and bags under eyes, to an extent. If your face looks like a sun-dried apple to start with, then no, I can't make you look 20. (Or if I DID smooth them all out, you would look like a plastic barbie doll and not a human any longer!)

I can edit out a dirt spot on your kids face, but if their face hasn't been washed in a week, then no, I can't fix that into shiny clean faces. HINT - wash your kids face BEFORE the photo!

I can lighten a dark photo but I can't bring out details that weren't captured to begin with, because it was dark.

I can change the color of your hair and eyes, and make your hair look thicker. I can even change your clothes. But I can't make you look like Angelina Jolie or Julia Roberts if you look nothing like them to begin with. (Unless I just stick their head on your body, that I can do!)

Yes, I can edit out tummy bulges, but I cannot make you look like you weigh 100 lbs when you weigh 300 lbs. (unless you want a funhouse mirror kind of pic)

I can give you wings, make you into a mermaid or a vampire or put you on the moon, but there are some things that I just can't do so shut up already! And the worst ones to do this kind of thing is family, who are already getting it done at a discount or for free! Strangers rarely act that way.

Sure, I can make them a LITTLE bigger or smaller, lol! And I can move them up a LITTLE. DISCLAIMER: But if they lay on your belly button, moving them up a 'little' isn't going to make them look like Pamala Anderson's! LOL!

I think that's what I'm going to start saying, lol! I tell them I can do LIMITED re-touching and then they bitch that they still aren't perfect. Too bad, so sad, they should be glad I can take that wart off Auntie Bea''s nose! :D

No, most portrait studios don't offer it, but some people seem to think they can give me some random snapshot and I can make it look like a posed studio photo. I can't and I tell them I can't, then they cry when I don't.

There comes a point when you edit a photo so much, that is exactly what it looks like, an edited photo.

Hippi, you just reminded me of back when we had a photography studio. My husband only had one unsatisfied customer in the 5 years we had that. We did ball teams, wedding, SR. photo's, you name it we did it. He stayed swampped with work because our prices were cheap and we took more photo's for your money. Well anyway this one lady came in to pick up her wedding photo's. We did over 200 proofs for her. All very clear, detailed and beautifully done. Her mom was ooo'ing & awww'ing over them, then all of a sudden the bride said "How could you be happy with these mom, look how they made me look fat in the photo's!"
They must have squished them up so I would look dumpy instead of tall! :twitch
Everyone in the room got really quiet, no one knew what to say.

My husband finally, said I didn't alter these photo's any. They were taking with a $5,000.00 camera and they are true to life as you can get from any photographer. And I'm really sorry your not happy...blah, blah,...blah..LOL

I never in my life heard someone blame the photographer for making them look fat!:slap

Anyway that was back before people had computers, so we had to send them off to have them retouched. She had us stretch the photo's taller so she would look skinnier. Have you ever seen one of those old spaghetti westerns were everyone looks to tall and long legged? Well that's how these photo's ended up looking. It was strange, but she was happy. LOL :D

don't they say a photo adds 20 lbs or something like that, so she probably was smaller then the photos show. :rofl:
