I was wondering how many of you make pasties, or if you Mama, Grandmama, Mother in Law or you make these.
I have googled alot and not really set on an exact recipe, up here in Minnesota they HAVE to have turnips in them, and I am fine with that, I love them, especially mashed with sweet potatoes, parsnips and russets, but that is something much different..any how, have you made these?
Do you like them?
I would ask my Daddy, he does, but he is compromised so I can't get help there, I ate them as a child and never thought of them until a client asked for them, I can use any advice, my client wants a "flaky pastry", I know in French cooking terms what that is, but really would like to get authentic as possible.

The loving BF is just thrilled, I think this is big in Minnesota, but this is kinda re-visted for me and any help, I apperciate.

Thanks so much, if you can help in advance!

That's what I thought she was talking about too! LMAO
I thought maybe she meant to say pastries or something like that. :D

I've never heard of what she's talking about though. Sounds good. :)

sorry I had never heard of them until this year when I was watching something on food network (oh yeah, feasting on asphalt)

this is totally OT, do you know how to make petite fours? That would be a really awesome dessert if you knew how. I have looked and looked and really haven't found a recipe for them I liked.. they all looked frumpy and I wanted them to look professional.

I don't know if you got this website in your search, but there are 54 recipes for pasties on this site. I had to go look it up to see what you were talking about. :)

My mom makes them all of the time, since I was born in Michigan,it has always been a family favorite.
My mom chops up a rutabega, carrots, white potatoes and in a separate pan,a mixture of beef and pork, chopped up into tiny pieces.
She just mixes the vegetables and beef in one huge pan and then plops them in the center of individual pies. She slits a knife in the center of each one before she bakes them so they don't blow up in the oven.
Then she serves them hot.BUT...to really savor the flavor, you must eat them with REAL butter not the imitation stuff.Yummy.

I have had them once and they were ok. The ones I had had ground beef and some other stuff in them. Good luck with yours.
