My 9 year old has been having headaches for the past couple of days and it has happened in the past once or twice but until now never again. She said that right before her head starts to hurt her hands and arms give her a "jolt" and then they get all shaky......just wondering if anyone has every had anything like this before. I just called and we have a 9:30 am appt on Monday

That must be really scary for her. Make them order an EEG and an MRI. That is definitely not a normal headache symptom. It sounds to me like she may be having some type of seizures. :(

My niece would get a tingling sensation in her hands before she would have a seizure. They were petit mal seizures. She did not get headaches though. She would just kind of be gone for a few minutes. She would stare off into space. I definitely agree with DrGrin to have them run an EEG and an MRI. I have heard that seizures can start during puberty but your daughter seems a little young for that yet. I am sure the doctor will get to the bottom of what is going on. I am very sorry to hear that she is having this problem. :(

You know after thinking about it I wonder if it could be low blood sugar. I get shaky and a headache when mine gets low.

yeah my mom asked me if she had a sugar problem I was like gosh I have no idea this is the kid that is NEVER sick so will be very interested to find out what is going on. They could have gotten her in late this afternoon but I figured if that was the case they wouldn't be able to do any of the tests and she also goes to her so called dad's house this afternoon

Hopefully it won't be anything to serious and she will be back to normal soon :)

Be sure to keep that appointment and also strongly request a CAT or MRI to be done. I don't want to be a doomsayer, but it actually sounds like she may have some seizure activity. My daughter started having severe headaches and then she kept saying that her kept twitching and her feet went numb. Come to find out she was having seizures.

Just got home. They did several blood test and a head xray and found nothing wrong with the exception of one test not back yet. He thinks that it isn't anything serious wrong and could just be because she is getting a bit of a cold and cough thing so just have to keep an eye on her so I don't really feel much better but with any luck it is just a freak thing and maybe it wont happen again

I had headaches when I was about 14. They did not go away and I got shakey, it was a tumor on my brain. Took many meds to dissolve it/reduce its size. It worked. Good luck and god bless

A Head Xray? That isn't going to tell them if your child has been having seizures. You need to take her to a Neurologist. I'm assuming you just took her to a family doctor or a pediatrician. People don't have tremors in their hands and arms from a cold and cough. What is the point of someone going to medical school if they don't care enough about their patients to do more extensive testing to get to the root of a problem instead of just putting a bandaid on something hoping it will go away. This just makes me ill.

For the love of Pete, please get a second opinion. A child that age should not be having the headaches and tremors.

my daughter had the same symptoms when she was about 2 shed say her hand was falling asleep and her head hurt then shed go into seizures. we had all kinds of tests on her MRIs ,eeg, blood work etc they never found anything wrong with her she was having like 2 a day and even in her sleep. then we moved to where we live now she had like 2 more(all within a years time) and she has NEVER had another one since then shes 12 now. my 20 year old sister has seizures had them since she was 6 months old they did all kinds of tests on her and never found anything til she was about 17 then they found that she has some kind of brain disease and she developed "ticks" she has mild tourettes also so sometimes the tests wont show anything and she went to a neurologist when she was younger. so sometimes it just depends on whos doing the tests and how good they are at reading them. but like the OP said have her tested for low blood sugar I get shakey, i get dizzy and get a headache and feel like im going to pass out and get violently sick to my stomach when my sugar gets too low.next time try some orange juice(if she can drink it) and see if that helps I also use to massage my daughters hand and arm to get the blood flowing better and that sometimes would prevent her "attacks"

Well they never did find anything wrong and she has been fine every since so I guess we just wait and see if it happens again and hopefully be able to get to the dr when she is having those feelings rather than after.
