I hope this is not a bad question - I am looking for a forum (or anywhere that seniors might like or congragate - no match sites!) for my mom with issues that "older" people face..she gets bored

I would like this too. A place that I would feel like I have more in common witht he members.

I have searched for a place but have not found one. Please share the site if you do find one.

Someone with some knowledge could create such a board.

A forum for chat, and a forum for diet and health issues, etc.

Wonderful idea.

While not a forum, when I used to play at POGO, they had rooms for different age groups. You could go there and play games and chat with people your own age.

Tell her about Third Age. www.thirdage.com They have just about everything you want. They have tons of topics and games as well.

Then there is www.eons.com I joined but haven't investigated it yet. I got pts for joining there from My Pts.

Thanks for posting those :) My husband is ten years older than I am and I have been trying to find a chat room for him, since all he really has is me and I thought maybe if I could find him a place where the same people go, where he can make online friends it would add a little something to his life. I don't really chat so I dont know of any, tho I do have yahoo, but just use the messenger so my friends can talk to me. SO we made him a name and found a chat room on yahoo and 2 out of the three times he didn't like it.. He got pm'ed to look at sexy young things on cam and the other time someone had some type of program that made hundreds of chat windows open.. that confused the heck out of him. Another place, banned him within an hour for not filling out his profile. He was hoping he could find an olders guy chat room where they could talk about the military and the way the world is today but all we could find was rooms for gay men. So he had given up after trying another place where we was talking to a woman who started to initiate a more intimate conversation and he clicked off. He hasn't tried again. but this time I'm going to try out those posted up there before he gets disappointed again.

I know what you are talking about.

Without trying to make people feel bad, I do not like to hear or read any type of ugly words. My health issues are age related, my children are grown,
Most of my bills are paid except for the ones that are monthly, my time is my own, etc. It is different problems than younger people.

If someone could start a board that would be aimed at older people I will be happy to be moderator. I am a moderator at the weight loss board that I had posted on here,(their language makes me a little uncomfortable and I find myself staying away and I only go there to post my daily numbers.) so I do have some experience in that area. I have had my own board at one time so I do know how to do that, I just never learned how to personlize it or make it look attractive.

Anyone interested in getting one started?

Janelle I also joined "eons" and while it did have alot of different groups you could join, ioncluding religious-everything all religions and some non religious forums- it just was not what I was looking for. To many people and too many subjects and just too much there.

I am looking for people-just normal people, they don't have to go to church, but at least TRY to be respectful, they do not have to exercise daily, but let me do it without putting me down about. That statement becasue my sister came one day (without calling btw) I was here alone and dressed for comfort while I exercised, not for guests. When I knew it was her,I opened the door in my shorts, hightops shoes and sports bra, and she literally began deriding me for exercising and laughing and putting me down, trust me I know her and I know what she was doing.

What about your local senior citizens center? Thats something outside the home and they're wonderful. Anyone of any age can come and join up for the activities and they do all sorts of things from Bingo to crafts to have dances!!
Good luck in your search, I know of nothing online.

I love our local senior center, I am now trying to get involved in their exercise programs, they also give very inexpensive dance lessons and sometime the lessons are free. I like it. But some times that option is not available for everyone, plus a chatroom is there 24 hrs. a day.

There is just a lot of pluses for having a chat board. I may go ahead and start one. I do know someone that can personalize it,

Go here on Third Age and start a discussion of your own. Tell them what you are looking for. If they don't have members there to chat on that subject then they may know of places that do---like the military topics, etc.

Once when I was looking for freebie boards that used the vbulletin format I went to their site and it has a link for most all the forums that use that program. Here is the link.

I was just doing a search for you, and came across this website. It says the forums are being updated right now so there is no way to tell how good they are at this point.

This was posted though on the front page and I thought it was cute. :)

HUMOR:
THE PERKS OF BEING OVER 50
Contributed by James Kelly

Kidnappers are not very interested in you.
In a hostage situation, you are likely to be released first.
People call at 8 PM and ask, "Did I wake you?"
No one expects you to run into a burning building.
Peope no longer view you as a hypochondriac.
There's nothing left to learn the hard way.
Things you buy now won't wear out.
You can eat dinner at 4 p.m.
You can live without sex, but not without glasses.
You enjoy hearing about other people's operations.
You get into a heated argument about pension plans.
You have a party and the neighbors don't even realize it.
You no longer think of speed limits as a challenge.
You quit trying to hold your stomach in, no matter who walks into the room.
Your eyes won't get much worse.
Your investment in health insurance is finally beginning to pay off.
Your joints are more accurate in predicting rain than the National Weather Service.
Your secrets are safe with your friends, because they can't remember them either.
Your supply of brain cells is finally down to a manageable size.
You won't remember where you saw this.
I don't remember where I published this.
