BEVERLY HILLS, California — Troubled starlet Lindsay Lohan was busted for DUI early Tuesday for the second time in less than a year.

The 21-year-old actress’ arrest happened about 2:15 a.m. in Santa Monica, Calif., near Pico Boulevard and Main Street, according to gossip site TMZ.com.

Lohan checked out of a Malibu rehab center on July 13, after a stay of more than six weeks. She has been wearing an alcohol-monitoring ankle bracelet, going to Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and receiving therapy ever since.

The "Mean Girls" star, who turned 21 on July 2, checked into the swank facility after a wild Memorial Day weekend during which she crashed her Mercedes Benz into a curb, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and was photographed slumped in the passenger seat of a friend's car.

Just last Thursday, Lohan turned herself in to police to be booked on suspicion of driving under the influence during the Memorial Day weekend car crash, police said.

Accompanied by her attorney, Lohan surrendered herself at the Beverly Hills Police Department to be fingerprinted and photographed, said Officer Brian Ballieweg.

She was booked on suspicion of a DUI with a blood alcohol level above .08, California's legal limit, and on suspicion of misdemeanor hit and run, Ballieweg said.

After the Memorial Day incident, police said she had been arrested for investigation of driving under the influence, though she wasn't formally booked on the allegation until Thursday.

The actress was released on her own recognizance. A court date was scheduled for August 24.

Lohan said in January she had checked into a rehabilitation center for substance abuse treatment.

Earlier this month, Lohan's publicist Leslie Sloane Zelnik said the star was "doing great."

"Lindsay is working hard on her sobriety and we are all supporting her," she said.

Oh, for pete's sake - like the red queen says -off with her head! Not really, but I say jail time for her. I actually was not as down on her like I was on Paris, because I thought at least she was making an effort. Not any more- it was just a game to her, I guess. Booked and released!!!! If they treated these spoiled rich brats like the criminals they are, this would not happen.

So is this her third offense? Sounds like incarceration is needed as AA and the monitoring bracelet is not helping.

I actually feel bad hearing about these kids who at such a young age cannot stay away from the alcohol and drug scene. If I were her mother and she were still underage, she'd be taking a nice long sabbatical away from that whole scene and not doing any acting for awhile.

Makes me admire the child stars like Brooke Shields who managed to take a break, go to college and return to acting without getting arrested, repeat drug problems, etc. Lindsay Lohan needs some help. Very sad.

Val -Thats because you would be a good parent! LL's mom is a media hog that uses her kids to get her picture taken. She is not concerned with anything but herself. The sad thing is one of these kids is going to kill themselves or someone else, and it could have been avoided.

SANTA MONICA, Calif (AP) - Lindsay Lohan, who just finished a second stint in rehab for substance abuse treatment, was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving and possession of cocaine early Tuesday, authorities said.

Lohan, who is already facing a drunken driving charge in Beverly Hills, was stopped near the Santa Monica Police Department after authorities were called about a car chasing another vehicle, said Sgt. Shane Talbot.

Authorities conducted a field sobriety test and then transported Lohan to the police department.

A breath test was conducted and her blood alcohol was between .12 percent and .13 percent, Talbot said. California's legal limit is 0.08 percent.


The 21-year-old actress was booked on two misdemeanor charges of suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and driving on a suspended license and two felony charges of possession of cocaine and transport of a narcotic, Talbot said.

During a pre-booking search, police found cocaine in one of Lohan's pants pockets, Talbot said.

Lohan has been released on $25,000 bail, police said.

A call to Lohan's publicist was not immediately returned.

Police said they received a call around 1:30 a.m. from passengers in a black Cadillac Escalade sport utility vehicle who said they were being chased by a white Denali SUV. Police met up with the SUVs in the parking lot of Santa Monica's Civic Center, about a block away from the police department.

When police approached the Denali, they recognized Lohan as the driver. The passengers in the other vehicle apparently know Lohan, but did not realize she was chasing them.

Lohan had two passengers in her vehicle. There were three people in the other vehicle, police said.

Last week, Lohan turned herself in to Beverly Hills police to face charges of driving under the influence in connection with a Memorial Day weekend hit-and-run crash.

Lohan's blood-alcohol level at the time of that crash was above the legal limit, authorities said. They wouldn't disclose how high it was. She also faces a misdemeanor charge of hit and run in that case.

Lohan and two other adults were in her 2005 Mercedes SL-65 convertible when she lost control and crashed into a curb and shrubs on Sunset Boulevard on May 26, police said.

Lohan got into a second car and was driven to a hospital in Century City for minor injuries, police said. The others in her car were not hurt.

Officers received a 911 call about the accident and traced her to the hospital.

Two weeks ago, Lohan checked out of a rehabilitation center after more than six weeks. In January she also had checked into rehab for substance abuse treatment.

Lindsay Lohan check out of Promises Malibu Alcohol and Drug Rehab Treatment Facility on Friday, and is eager to stay clean and sober. So much, that she will voluntarily wear an alcohol-detecting ankle bracelet as part of her outpatient program. Her outpatient program includes AA meetings, daily tests, and therapy.
