Finally the date has come and I start my preparations tonight (I take dulcolax) with only clears to eat/drink all day long Sunday and phosphosoda twice tomorrow.

Should be fun, fun, fun.

Not really but I have heard the prep is the worst part of the whole thing.

I started bleeding a couple of times a month ago and the doctor said it likely was just a hemorrhoid from the vicodin I was taking after my molars were removed. I hope if anything that is all they find.

I'm only 42 but Dr planned this as My dad had colon cancer 6 years ago when he was 63 years old but he told no-one until after surgery and other treatments were done. His right but I would have liked to know more of his family health history than is currently known.

Oh well. Wish me luck and perhaps in a week or two will know if anything else is found if they take anything out (polyps) on Monday.

Good luck tomorrow getting thru a liquid day. And I'll think positive that they find nothing but a hemmoroid. My Mom had small polyps and they removed them during the colonoscopy and she did really good considering she was in her late 60's. I'm sure you'll be fine. Prayers and huggles.

I had one a few years ago. Not as bad as one imagines and the prep is more of the 'pain in the butt' than anything else. Good luck, I wish you a hemorrhoid! ;)

i get to have them once a year ( my mom died of colon cancer) make sure you have a lot of tp( the one with aloe helps) a very good book and it really is not as bad these days as it once was. did they give you (and i love this name) GoLightly or something else. As far as the procedure it is very easy your out for the whole thing. Hang in there :)

One word: vaseline.

You are gonna need it with the bowel prep.

Hope it all comes out well......"in the end!"

I guess that depends on the doctor, facility and reasons for the colonoscopy.
I used to work at an Endoscopy center... We seldom had our patients completely unconscious. The doctors would want Versed in the IV, but not enough to knock the patient out. They wanted the patient to know what they found, and what they were doing.

But... back to the OP: You will be fine. A screening is easy. You need a baseline anyway. That way they can see a clean, well colon, to compare as the years go by.
The prep is the worst part. The actual procedure may take 30 minutes. And once it is done, you can relax.. and eat.
If you get shaky, or feel weak, did your doctor suggest vanilla ensure? It helps calm your shakes if you get them. Balances the blood sugar better.
