When I read the report regarding making illegals legal, I became Mount Vesuvius. One person (home security) explained that it would make their job easier if they didn't have to chase after the illegals and could then spend their time and money on securing the borders. To me that's like saying that if I didn't have to spend money to keep my children healthy then I would have money to buy them nicer clothes! :( This logical totally boggles ones mind.

They mention that they would fine the illegals $5000...the same illegals who say they can't afford a pot to piss in. Does this mean that the government would then float them a loan to pay the fine???? I sure wouldn't put it past them. Maybe Ted Kennedy along with George Bush will personally pay this fine for them from their expense accounts, NOT. How will the government control the paying of the fines, the collecting of the taxes etc when they can't even keep tabs on people who have come into this country legally but overstayed their visas???????

This country, should this pass, will be doing a disservice to all those who came to this country legally and have paid their taxes and supported themselves. I would like to hear the government and the do-gooders explain how this government could have discriminated against those fleeing the Nazis (who could not get into this country without having a sponsor and having to learn English before taking one step into this country) to those who cross our borders illegally, freely take our services, have the money to buy cars, homes, fake social security cards etc. and who publicly admit they are here illegally and boast about how much money they are able to send home to their family! Explain to those retired US citizens who worked hard all their lives who at times have to decide to either buy food or do without food to buy their medicine that the illegals in this country (who get free medical care) will have the same status as them! What about those arrested and convicted sex offenders who are here illegally, who get a 'don't do that again' and are free to go back into society...until the government decides that since these offenders forgot to register then they have to set up a sting to try and locate them. Explain to the woman's family that people like the man who brutally raped, sodomized and killed their wife, mother, daughter will become legal 'guests' in our country. Many Hispanics who came to this country legally and have paid their dues are against making the illegals legal.

As far as I am concerned, if you are here illegally, if you break the law, if you commit a crime...you must pay the price and the price should NOT be a reward as to what these lawmakers are proposing. These people are criminals who knowingly came into this country, steal services that the taxpayers have to pay, work to only support themselves and evade paying any taxes. Making them legal does NOT guarantee that they will ever pay taxes and this government can NOT control them.

Am I angry? Heck yes! Will I ever vote for a politician who wants to make illegal legal...heck NO! Why? I believe that charity begins at home and this country should first take care of those here legally (and whose parents are also here legally) before doling out the taxpayers money to those who are illegal.

Kenosha Deputy Fatally Shot During Traffic Stop
Man Arrested After Intense Search

A deputy was shot and killed during a routine traffic stop, and a suspect is in custody after an intense manhunt by land and air, a Kenosha County sheriff's official said Thursday.

Deputy Frank Fabiano Jr. was trying to pull a red van over near the University of Wisconsin-Parkside campus at about 11:37 p.m. Wednesday when he was shot multiple times, according to Kenosha County Sheriff's Department spokesman Gil Benn.

A Parkside police officer serving as a backup radioed that shots had been fired and a deputy was down. He also returned fire, according to the Kenosha County Sheriff's Department.

The shooting happened in an upscale neighborhood on 45th Avenue just south of Highway E.

The gunman disappeared into a wooded area, as dozens of squad cars streamed into the area. A helicopter and police dogs were brought in to search for the male suspect.

As the three-hour manhunt began, authorities sent a telephone message -- a "child is missing" alert -- to residents of the area urging them to be on the alert.

Kenosha County Sheriff David Beth said people called in tips that were useful.

Benn said the 45-year-old suspect was arrested at the Woodcreek Apartment Complex, located about a half-mile from the shooting scene just after 2:30 a.m.

Ezequiel Lopez was hiding behind some cars and was still armed, according to Beth.

He was treated at Kenosha Memorial Hospital for injuries. Lopez will be housed outside of Kenosha County Jail.

Beth said the suspect had eight aliases and at least five Social Security numbers. The sheriff said Lopez has a Kenosha address, although it's not known if it is current. Lopez has also been arrested several times.
Fabiano was transported to St. Catherine's Hospital, where he pronounced dead. He is survived by his wife and 7-year-old daughter.

Fabiano, an 18-year veteran of the force, received a silver star from the Kenosha County Sheriff's Department for rescuing someone from a burning building in Paddock Lake in 1991. He also received a purple heart in 1991 after getting shot in Paddock Lake.

He graduated from Bradford High School in 1977 and loved to go golfing, Beth said.

The Wisconsin Department of Criminal Investigation is now in charge of the case.

It's been almost seven years since a law enforcement officer from southeastern Wisconsin died while on duty.

Milwaukee County deputies Ralph Zylka and Sung-Hui Bang were killed in August 2000 when their helicopter crashed while on a manhunt in the central part of the state.

Actually they would not go for free but not have to pay the out-of-state rate which I interpret meaning that they will be state subsidized. There will be larger problems when the children of illegals born in this country (making then US citizens) will be of college age. Since their parents are not here legally, that would make these kids independent and without having a job or legal parents to support them, they will get aid (grants and scholarships) up the kazoo while children of US citizens will amass loans to rival the US debt :( Now back to the subject:

House OKs Bill On Immigrant Tuition
Those With Illegal Status Would Pay In-State Rates

After nearly three hours of sometimes passionate debate, state lawmakers Thursday approved a measure that would allow illegal immigrants to pay in-state tuition fees at Connecticut's public colleges and universities.

The House of Representatives approved an amended bill by a 76-67 vote. The difference was largely along party lines.

The bill now goes to the state Senate.

Currently, illegal immigrants must pay out-of-state tuition costs at public universities and colleges, often a huge financial barrier.

The in-state tuition rate for one semester at Central Connecticut State University, for example, is $3,367; the out-of-state rate is $7,727.

Proponents of the measure said it will benefit about 200 students a year. Those students would still be unable to receive federal or state aid because of their citizenship status, but they would have a greater chance of being able to afford college with the lower in-state rate, supporters said.

State Rep. Pamela Z. Sawyer, R-Bolton, reluctantly opposed the bill. Sawyer said that while she supports educational opportunities for all people, allowing illegal immigrants to be eligible for in-state tuition costs increases competition for legal applicants vying for a limited number of slots.

Southern Connecticut State University on May 1 closed its applications for admissions because of an overwhelming number of applicants, Sawyer said.

The bill states that to be eligible, the students must have attended two years of high school in Connecticut and graduated from a school in the state. Students also must file an affidavit with the school they will attend stating that they have applied for legal immigration status or will do so if they become eligible.

"These kids are not looking for a handout, they are not looking for a leg-up, they are not looking for a quota to be set, they are asking for what they deserve," said state Rep. Andres Ayala Jr., D-Bridgeport. Ayala said many of the students targeted in the bill are the children of illegal immigrants who have thrived here.

"These young people are in no way taking the place of others," said Rep. Kelvin Roldan, D-Hartford. "They are assessed on their merits. ... These students have beaten the odds by every means. These young children will be contributing a lot to the Connecticut economy."

The bill, if signed into law, would add Connecticut to 10 other states that have passed similar measures including New York, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska and Utah.

the whole issue is NOT about immigration itself but the ILLEGAL part of it, hey i feel that if they want to come here for a chance at a better life more power to them but go thru the proper channels and learn the language...
i get papers and forms from my state that are primarily in english and it will have 3 other pages that are in different languages and at the bottom of each sheet will say something like this form was promulgated at a cost of 00.02 each so if 1 million peeps get that same sheet it cost the state $20,000 that can be used elsewhere, not to mention what it cost to have an interpreter at all the state offices in each county.

They were discrimated against. My fathers is Native American. BUT our forefathers didn't break the law by coming here. These people are breaking the law by coming here illegally. I know a man who is here from Trinadad legally and the current waiting time for him to get his green card is approximatly 7 YES SEVEN years. We check on line every week to see when he will actually be able to work here legally. It say's they are processing the applications from September 2000. He is here through his brother and the applications are taking that long - how is someone suppose to support themselves Legally when our system is so screwed up that it takes over 7 years to process a application? A thief is a person who takes property of another to either use or sell. In this case the property belongs to the law abiding, tax paying individuals in this country. Those that are here illegally do not pay taxes since they can not be legally employed. If they get sick or hurt where they must go to a public hospital, they do not have to pay since they cannot claim themselves as wage earners and of course they don't have medical insurance. Who then foots the bill? The answer is those who pay either out of their own pocket and/or through taxes paid to their state or federal government. The children born in this country to illegal parents, thus making them US citizens, will get all their needs monetarily met: education, free meals, shelter, medical etc....again paid by the taxpayers.

The fact remains that our governmental bodies can't handle what they already have to deal with. So who is going to oversee and pay the costs to keep 12 MILLION people and their extended families in this country? Home land security says let them stay here and then they will be better prepared to secure our borders.....what the heck! they can't control what is already within our borders whether that person be legal or illegal!

I recall one person many years ago who proposed that all innocent people should be locked up in prison to protect them against all the 'bad' people in the hopes that all the 'bad' people would kill each other off. Maybe we should all claim ourselves as illegal and let the government take care of us and then we would never have to pay taxes ever again...imagine never getting another medical bill....never having to worry about paying for a college education for our US born children......having money left over at the end of the month to play with (an illegal diner cashier claimed that she is able to send $600 a month to her family....an illegal day worker makes enough money to send home to pay his mortgage on his new home)........God help us!!!!!!

I am wondering how they are going to get all these illegals to pay $5000 in fines. If they do not abide by the laws and pay taxes on their illegally earned income and get handouts while earning income under the table, what makes our government think they will pay this fine?

If they are getting paid in cash, they are not paying taxes and therefore are not paying their way. If they are getting paid and are on someones payroll, then taxes are taken off. If the person is illegal then they are not on a company payroll because they cannot legally work unless they have false paper which would be illegal. Thus we are back to the fact that illegal=illegal.

Re: people who hire illegals

They are to blame for allowing illegals to live in this country by paying them under the table. By paying them in cash, there is no record of their employment and they, the employers pocket the money that normally would go to taxes. Most of these employers have a cash business and most likely they don't report all their profits to the government. In addition the taxpayers get to pay for the legal representation of the illegal workers suing the employer for not paying the cash promised to these illegal workers.

The end result - the taxpayer gets screwed....again

You know, everyone says that the hispanics work cheaper. Think about this. They make them all legal, they get paid by check and taxes are taken out. Now remember, they work cheaper. A lot of them have kids. At the end of the year, they file their income tax return. Guess what? They get back more than they paid in.

So here they are, taking jobs away from Americans and the Americans that are working and paying taxes are paying them for coming to America.

So where did the myth go about them becoming tax payers when they received amnesty? Sounds to me like it blew away somewhere.

But what about ppl who are here illegally and do pay thier own way by working & stuff?? It is a very hard delimma, I know. But I certainly do not condone a "ship 'em back" solution. There are a lot of pple here that hire illegal workers because they know that they (the illegals) will do the job cheaper. So, if they get hired, whose fault is it? (please don't slam me, I just thought I was asking some questions that I myself had thought about a time or 2).

It isn't a hard dilema for me. If they are not legal, send them home. Simple. Come here the right way or don't come at all. Doesn't matter on bit if they pay their way or not.

why is it that when ppl are against ILLEGAL immigration it is ASSUMED that those ppl are full of hate??? I haven't heard anyone here state they are against LEGALLY immigration so basically if I am NOT against a legal immigrant from lets say Mexico (since that is the big issue) but I am against and ILLEGAL immigrant from Mexico do you actually think I hate all ppl from Mexico?
