A friend gave me a used computer a few months back. The problem is that the sound doesnt work so I'm assuming it doesnt have a sound card. How do I go about getting a sound card? Do all computers use the same card? I know nothing about this computer so if I needed certain information to buy a sound card I would have no idea what to tell them. Also does anyone know how much the card will run me? Thanks for any information!! :)

depends on the brand of soundcard some are more expensive than others I get a lot of my stuff at outletpc.com or newegg.com. they are pretty reasonable about stuff. also the volume may be manually turned off you can check by going into control panel and sounds and audio devices if its windows xp it will tell if it has a sound card and what kind. if its a windows 98 you go to control panel and search there also.cant remember Id have to go get on my old pc. but theres an advanced tab on the windows xp on the sound and audio device make sure its not on mute if not hit advanced and see if all the bars are up to where they should be its easy to figure it out. if that dont work then you need a sound card and all computers I assume can use different sound cards. both my pc's have different ones. but the above links should help Ive never had a problem with either place hth
