I need to cut down a recipe it calls for 5 gallons sauce and 5 cups-vinegar. I know that there are 4quarts in a gallon but I cant figure out what my meausments would be if I want to cut the 5gallons just 4 cups, what would the meausment for the 5cups break into??

That was proabably pretty confusing-

Orinigal recipes 5 gallons
5 cups

I want to use only about 4 cups (instead of 5gallons)

640 ounces are in 5 gallons compared to 40 ounces in 5 cups or 80 cups compared to 5 cups.

So it is a 16 to 1 ratio, so to cut the recipe, you need:

4 cups of sauce and 1/4 cup of vinegar

hope that helps

OK ...

4 cups of sauce I would use 1/8 cup vinegar which is equivelent to 3 TABLESPOONS.
you can always add more vinegar if you want to taste ... hope that helps you???

Granulated garlic is also a powder Aussie ... you can find it in the same aisle as the spices :)

HTH!!!

1/8 cup equals 3 tablespoons
1 1/2 tablespoons would be used if you only want 2 cups of sauce

Or make the 4 cup sauce and come over for a BBQ ;) :D

Hey .... I made a little boo boo ... I looked it up for you

1/8 cup = 2 TABLESPOONS or 6 TEASPOONS

So if you want to cut to 2 cups of sauce you would use 1 TABLESPOON of vinegar or 3 TEASPOONS

actually, I think my calculations are correct. If there is 80 cups of sauce in 5 gallons, and it takes 5 cups of vinegar, you divide 80 by 5, and get 16, so you would have a 16 to 1 ratio. That being said, it takes 16 quarter cups to make 4 cups, so it would be 4 cups of sauce and 1/4 cup of vinegar.

I was just telling her I would use 1/8 of a cup.

Aussie emailed a chef and he told her to use 1/8 of a cup as well

I understand your calculations .... I personally would use 1/8 of a cup and more to taste if needed ;)
