My brother-in-law has a hernia that needs repaired but he has no insurance for the operation, I was wondering if anyone knew of any problems in Ky besides health and family services says they cannot help him because he has no minor children, not 65, or hasnt been disabled for a year. that is the guidlines to get medical card apparently, does anybody work for a hospital that may have some kind of fund that would help him get the surgery he needs. I hope someone can lead us in the right direction for some help. Its pretty sad they will bring people from overseas and do surgery for free then why dont we Americans have the same help for our own people, it just doesnt make any sense to me. I appreciate any help I can get.

I use to work at a Hospital in Cleveland. There is a program called "Hospital Care Assurance Program". I know all of Ohio uses this program. Hopefully your state does. They go according to poverty guidelines. they only consider what you make, (not what you own-ie.car, house, bank acct, ect). Call the patient account department at the hospital and inquire about this program, it may be called something different in your state. Good Luck let me know how it turns out.

You can set up a payment plan with the hospital I know, but not sure on the discounts. When I was pregnant with my first baby I didn't have insurance. They let me pay for the delivery in full before I went into labor at a discount and said even if there were complications, I wouldn't have to pay any more.

We have the same type of medical care here

When DH had a hernia, we had to pay up front for the surgery because it wasn't life threatening. I hope your brother finds some help soon!

Was your BIL in the service? If so, maybe he could go to a veterns hospital and get it taken care of. Not sure how that stuff works.
