Well my 13 year old son called me at work tonight told me while he was jumping over a flower bed he landed on his ankle and felt and heard it pop, i found someone to cover my shift, came home, it was sooooo swollen, so i splinted it and took him 55 miles to the ER.. 3 hrs later we find out he's broke the lateral and medial malleous.... basically the lil bump on either side of the foot thats the ankle.

My insurance sucks, but at least it kept me from having to pay anything up front, now i have to take him to Tulsa to see a Pediatric orthopedic specialist, thats 120 miles away.. lord i can't afford the gas for these trips, let alone the bills.

I'm sorry to vent here, but with it just being me and the boys, i can't let them know how tight the money's gonna be. I mean we'll get by, we always do, but this is just really the last thing i needed.

but on the bright side, they gave him pain meds and he hasn't looked this sweet in YEARS, lmao.

thanks again for letting me vent.

I am so sorry to hear about your sons ankle will says some prayers for a speedy recovery, these breaks can take awhile to heal and surgery. My sister went up a tree to get my nieces cat that the nieghborhood dog chased up there and she fell out and broke her ankle in the same places as your son, she had to have surgery twice to fix it and even now she has problems walking and lots of pain because one of the screws is working its way loose and they dont want to take it out because her foot is so unstable. She is a nurse and shoudl have known better than to climb a tree at 39 yrs old.

So sorry to hear about your son but that could happen to anybody. Ask the hospital if they have a program that will forgive the bill. Most have programs. If they are a public hospital and a not -for-profit hospital they must have a program by law.at worst you will still have to pay the ER doctor fee. Also ask the ped ortho doc if they can reducr your fees.

Sorry to hear about your son. I hope you can get the bill reduced. It's just so unreal what it cost nowadays. I think the medical profession tends to forget that MOST people don't make the same kind of mega bucks they do and it's really hard for normal people to pay these bills. Everyone deserves quality health care regardless of how much money they have. I wish they would just settle with the fist full of dollars they get from the insurance company because lord knows it should be more than enough. Anyway I will be praying for your son that he has a quick recovery and you aren't stressed out with money issues over this. :(

I am so sorry to hear about your son.

Have you applied for the Children's insurance through your state? They will pay alot of the stuff your insurance won't. You are usually eligible by income or by how much you have to pay in insurance.

And some of them will also provide transportation to doctors appointments.

Good luck!!

There's a realy good orthopedist in Muskogee, That would be closer. I know, My grandson just got his cast off last week from doing the very same thing, only he was showing off jumping over a table in the front yard. e-mail me if you want this doc's info. buddylee0@yahoo.com
Poor lil guy, I know it is painful. Good luck.

Aww Lynn I hope he is feeling better. I know when Bear took a tumble last year it was hard her ortho dr was 50 miles away one way. The hospital where I went had gas cards to give they were 10.00 gas cards for people who had to travel. I know your like me and wouldnt take it but just so you know things like that are out there. I hope it doesnt get too messy. Heres to fast healing !!

Ouch! Boys are boys.

Not only is it painful, it is also a financial hardship for you, plus
takes time and energy with all the MD appointments.
