I have a bird stuck in my chimney - I came in from snowblowing and I kept hearing this noise - and both cats were hanging around the fireplace (no fire in it - we don't use it) - then I heard wings flapping - it can't get in my house cuz the damper is closed on the chimney - called hubby at work and he said he will try to get it out when he gets home - thats not until like 6 (or later) tonight -

Awww - poor little bird. We had a mesh screen over the top of our chimney. You might want to do that next spring. We have birds flying into our front door frequently and we even have suncatchers on the door.

I was thinking about trying to get it out myself but I have no idea what kind of bird it is - or how big it is - or if I can even get it out....
I will have to mention to hubby about the screen thing -

Whatever you do don't open the damper and have a dirty bird flying all over in your house flying into things. We've had that before and the birds panic. They've knocked over figurines and stuff and they poop constantly. They aren't like a bird in a cage as a pet. Chances are in it's panic it may have already broken a wing. Maybe if you have a bird rescue in your area to call, they might have some suggestions. Good luck.

I think the ASPCA if you have one in your area will come out and help. They do it on TV all the time.

phew - we got it out - it took me and my 14 year old dd an hour and half to get it out but we got it - what I did was open the damper a hair - and he fell through into the fireplace - we had the fireplace screen flat against the opening and held it there till he calmed down a little - then I took a small bucket and put a piece of bread in it - after a while - he calmed down, found the bread and jumped into the bucket - I very ever so slowly stuck my hand in through the corner of the fire place screen and very very slowly slid a lid onto the bucket - so he was stuck in there - we had to try it twice - but the second time it worked - then I carried it outside and he flew -
- - - by the way it was a starling too - but he's saved anyways - and my cats aren't going nuts anymore - lol.......
now my back hurts from sitting on the floor for so long trying to mess with this thing...lol
