Right now up above in chain games, there is a thread going on called "games children play", which you can list outdoor games kids like. It has 8 pages of listings so far. It makes you wonder, with all of these things that kids can do on their own, why do parents literally spend hours each day taking this or that kid to swimming, soccer, t ball, softball, ballet, gymnastics, & I don't know what else. (I will show my age here). Does anyone remember growing up in a house full of kids, & in the summertime you went outside & played until you dropped each day, came in in the evening, took a bath & slept like a log because you were so tired? What happened to those days? Why do our kids have to find entertainment elsewhere, or veg out for hours in front of the tv playing violent video games (& then we complain about what a violent society we have). I just wondered about anyone elses take on this.

I'm not that old but I remember when I was little, me and my brother and my cousin all went out and played together....we rode bikes and just had a ball outside...we weren't in softball or gymnastics or basketball or football or soccer or anything like that. I sure miss those times though...me and my brother grew up and apart from each other...haven't spoke to or seen my cousin in at least 4 years. We are all close in age..I'm 23, my cousin Robert is 24 (in a few months), and my brother is 25 (next month)

I agree with you guys. IMO, kids are so spoiled today, they must be entertained at all times. It is no wonder we have all the kids getting into things they should not. I could go on and on, but this is not the place to do it.

I think part of the reason is, that we can't just let our kids play outside all day long. There are way to many perverts out there that could snatch up a kid in a heartbeat.

I myself will be very careful......when I was little we had a screened in porch and a friend and I were playing Barbies on the porch and my mom told us we were not allowed to leave the porch. Well a man came up and told us that he saw a really pretty flower around the corner he wanted to show us. WE were stupid and followed, well he exposed himself, just then my Mom came to check on us and we were gone so she started hollering, who knows what would have happened had she not come out when she did. She called the lcops but they never found the creep.

So I would rather put my daughter in supervised activities. I do think its sad that this is what the world has come to.

At age 61 now, I can tell you life has changed since I was a child. It is sad for the children today but definitely it is too dangerous to just let your child play outside like we did. I watch my grandchildren every minute when they are here and I am in a "safe" neighborhood where my children ran much freer than I would ever let the kids today. We have lots of kids on the street but not many who play outside. It is a shame it is this way but it is.

I see nothing wrong with kids doing these things.
