I am looking for a young, female cocker spaniel and have been searching online and over the phone for several weeks.......I have tried rescues but there just doesn't seem to be any in Colorado. If anyone has any advice please let me know.......Carrie :)

Did you look at Petfinders (http://www.petfinder.com/)?
I know a person that does fly with any animal to various locations. She is wonderful and works with my friend and many other breeders to safely transport animals to their new forever homes!

Thanks! and good luck finding your new buddy!

Look in the classifieds in your local newspaper. That's where I found my awesome little yorkie (pictured below in my sig) :)
Just make sure if you find one you want that you go to their house and make sure it's not a puppy mill house. Mine came from a very loving lady who actually had the litter in a play pen in the living room. :p She had a tiny closet too with her yorkies clothes hanging inside on tiny hangers. :D
Also another place to check is the vets office. They will post listings on a bulletin board in the office or they will just know of reputable breeders that take good care of their animals.
Around here we have local radio stations that have programs daily like "swap shop" and people can call in and request items to buy or call in with items to sell. You might try something like that too. :)

I have such a hard time with that word "Puppy mill". Ppl assume if there are more than one litter or dogs/cats that it's automatically a mill... and that's just not true and unfair to a lot of ppl. Now obviously, if they are lined in small cages and crawling all over each other that's one thing... but there was such a sweet little lady here that got all of her dogs taken away and got branded a puppy mill runner. She kept her dogs in their own little house (I don't mean dog house, I mean a small one bedroom house) w/ their own air conditioning and their own king size bed. They had playpens outside so they could run in the grass and lemme tell ya... there was not one drop of poop in the yard she was so quick to get it.
I'm sorry, I didn't mean to hijack your thread and Kyla, I definitely wasn't trying to attack you... I just get overly sensitive about that word sometimes. :(
I hope you find a puppy you can love forever!!

I would love to adopt, there are none available around here, so if you have any ideas let me know, I just don't really want one that comes from a "puppy mill" Carrie :)

I looked on craigslist at colorado springs area. There is a girl on there that is deploying and has a one year old female she can't take with her. I don't know if she is selling it or giving it away or if she even has it anymore. Click the link above then go down to the date of May 16 to the link for cocker spanials.
Also maybe post on freecycle.org for your area maybe someone will have one the can give you.

I feel the same way you do about it. There are breeders, then there are puppy mills.
That's why I said she should go to their house and see for herself. That way she can make her own judgement. :)

Thank you, and it's a her :) I'm one of those crazy yorkie lovers that dress their dogs up and treat them like they are children. :p

Go to www.dogoftheday.com Those people just talk about animals and they love them. A lot of them run rescue places or help with them. They will know what you can do. Good luck.

The gal I know is an airline attendant. Might want to check and see if there is one in your area.
