Do you need an invite to get a gmail account or how do you get an account with them?

Also, if you have a cell phone you can go to www.gmail.com and click on the "Sign up for gmail using your mobile phone" or click on https://www.google.com/accounts/SmsMailSignup1 they will send you a code for a gmail account over a text message. HTH :)
