We just got our first cat tonight! She is all white, medium hair and huge green eyes. She is very, very sweet. She is six months old. However, she is shedding like crazy, is this supposed to happen? We gave here a bath and she is still shedding. Her last owner said that they lived in an appartment and then moved two months ago and kitty had to stay in a shed due to two pit bulls trying to kill her. Could this be why? We are taking her to the vet tomorrow. Other than the hair shedding she is happy and wags her tail, and talks to us, she is eating fine and has used her potty. I am just worried about the shedding.
Oh yeah she can vibrate her tail  her whole body will be still and her tail really vibrates, weird
I will post a pic in a little while. Now can anyone pass on the kitty freebie sites?? :p

Most cats do this. It's normal :)

The shedding seems pretty normal for this time of year (my cats are shedding right now). But if she has medium to long hair you may want to get some "Johnson & Johnson Baby Hair Detangler". Try to brush or comb her every day. Most important.....GET CATNIP!!!!! :D The cat WILL thank you!!!! LOL!!!

Cats shed, especially long hairs. No amount of baths will help with that. Brushing might help minimize it but nothing will completely stop a cat from shedding. My cat sheds a lot. She's a long hair angora. I bathe her about once a month. You will most likely want to have her spayed. If she hasn't been to the vet yet you should make an appointmet to get her first shots and be dewormed. Most kittens are born with worms. There are also different things that the vet will test her for such as feline leukemia and other things that only cats get. I just re read your post and saw where you said she is six months. I mis read and thougt you said six weeks so most likely she's had her first shots if the previous owners had taken her.
Here is a pic of mine.......

They shed even more when they are under stress. And living in a shed, then moving to a new home (even though it's a good one!) are stressful. She'll still shed, but once she gets used to you and her new home, it should settle down some.
Hope everything goes well! I couldn't imagine living without cats!

Aww congrats on your new city, here is my advice, give her to me :D hehe j/k! I grew up w/ cats and haven't been able to have one for two years now and I really miss them. :( (my last kitty had to be put to sleep due to a brain tumor or I'd still have her.) Anyways, cats to shed, I agree w/ moogle, stress can play a huge role in that I also remember that when the seasons would change there would be more shedding. My last kitty (my baby) was a short hair and really didn't shed that much.. thankfully. Definitely brush as much as you can, get lots of little kitty toys and a scratching post.. ooh don't forget the treats! :) I also recommend not changing foods, find one that works and stick w/ that since it will upset their tummys. Also wet food makes the kitty toot terrible and then they have stinky poos :p lol. I can't think of anything else right now. I cannot wait to see pictures of your precious kitty. Lastly, enjoy your kitty :D Treasure every moment you have with her. :)

Seems I heard somewhere that cats shed when they are nervous! I know mine do...good luck with the new baby! It's just going to take time for you to get used to her and vice versa! Brushing is good though too and she might like it!
