View Full Version : Where do you shop for groceries?

I have three stores that I go to.
I go to WalMart for most items, however I will go to Meijer or Kroger if they have a good sale. Walmart will price match but some of the people act like its such a big hassle to do a price override or whatever that call it. Plus you get some that never ask for the sales paper as long as you have it all wrote down and then the others want the sales paper. Then trying to remember what was on sale and at what store while getting other things can get crazy. So... most of the time I'm running into each of these three stores to get what I need. :o
Like this week I will go to Meijer because they have pop on sale as well as a few Buy One Get One Free and Buy One Get Two Free items that I was to pick up.
Kroger has their milk on sale and something else but I can't remeber now. :o
Then I'll run in Walmart and pick up more groceries and the household items we need.
So what about you? Where do you shop for groceries?

I forgot to mention that I also shop at Sams Club but thats only every once in a while. We don't have one close by and I tend to spend a lot of money in there, so we only go once every two months or so. lol

I do most of my shopping at Redners Warehouse Market but sometimes I will stop in Boyers or Giant to pick things up.
Wal-Mart I think is kind of high on most of there groceries and they usually don't have what I want. There is no Kroger or Meijer around where I am.
But when I lived in Indiana many years ago I shopped Kroger.

Shaw's has the 10 for $10 sale every week on different items. What I have been wondering is why don't they just call it it a dollar sale because you don't need to buy 10 of the item to get it for a dollar. I don't know if your store works the same way or not. I bought Sunny Delight the other day. They had it advertised 10 for $10 but I only bought one and got it for a dollar. I didn't have to buy all 10 of them to get if for that price. Do you think by the store advertising it 10 for $10 that maybe some people will just automatically buy 10 even if they don't really need or want 10 of them. I have been wondering about this for a while. lol

Riverside still there? I haven't heard of them since I lived in PA 25 years ago. I think that one closed down just before we moved to Denver. Think it got driven out by the new Kroger that was built about a year before we left.
I usaully shop at Albertson's and King Soopers (bought by Kroger). I like Save-a-lot, but I don't have a car and usually end up buying more than I can haul on the bus, so I usually only go there when ds takes me.

Yea, its the same here, you don't have to buy 10 to get one for $1 LOL I mostly shop there when the milk is $1 or if the have a big sale on fruit or snacks... maybe twice a month.
If the milk is on sale, I buy 20 LOL

If the milk was on sale I would probably buy more than one. lol The price of milk is terrible. We only use milk in our cereal so a galllon will last a while.

A gallon of milk here is about $3.18/gallon. The 10 for 10 is only for 1/2 gallons, but its still a better price. We go though about 3 gallons a week (sometimes more) both DD's are big milk drinkers. I only like milk in my cereal or if I have a rare craving for choco milk LOL

We are lucky if we can get milk here for under $4 a gallon. We consider that a sale when we can. lol

I shop at Stater Bros (So Cal) and Ralphs (CA). I think Kroger's and Ralphs are owned by the same company. Ralphs is very pricey but they do accept double coupons and sometimes I can get some good deals.
We also have Albertsons here. I've been getting $5 off $25 coupons so sometimes it's worth it to go there.
We also have Smart & Final. I don't know if they have these in other parts of the country.

I do the majority of my shopping at Shaw's--they double and (rarely) triple coupons so I save a bundle (I saved $70 on my last shopping trip). I rarely go to Hannaford for anything since Shaw's has the new "Check the Price" policy. Hannaford does have a MUCH better baby food selection than Shaw's, though. I shop for my household goods and very little food at WalMart. They are in the process of converting my WM into a Super WM. I'm not sure if I'll grocery shop there, though. It depends on how much I can save!
PS--Patch, Albertson's (that Buttrfli was talking about) actually owns Shaw's, that's why they have the same sales. :)

Our hannafords has the family value meats where I can buy in bigger and freeze and our shaw is the only store in a 25 mile radius so they have jacked up the prices on everything in the store and it is highway robbbery

Our Kroger also does the 10 for $10 sales and you don't have to buy 10 to get it at that price either. They need to just call it the $1 sale.
Right now Kroger has 1/2 gallons of milk for $1, or as they put it, 6 for $6. lol So thats on my list to pick up.
Meijer has 24 packs of Pepsi products for $3.88, so of course I will buy a few of them. Gotta have my pop!
Some of the store yall named are stores I've never even heard of. lol

You coupon people kill me! I have no clue how you do it and save so much! Most of the time that I get a coupon I can use, I can get a generic brand cheaper (even after the coupon) than the name brand.
I want to follow you for a week and find out how you save so much LOL

It is, LOL. There very few of them though. In the bigger towns where there is competion, they are closed.

I shop at Shaws too because of thier double coupon policy. And they send out coupons for $10 off $100,$8 off $80,$4 off $40 and $3 off $30 every month.I use that combined with my coupons and Rewards card and always save a bundle. My last trip I had $110 in coupons alone.

Ok, I shop at BiLo if they have something I want at a good price and they double coupons. Same thing with Publix. I also look for B1G1. I consider it a good shopping day when I save $15. But then I am only buying for myself. I go to a local butchers for my meat because their meat is good.
Everything else comes from WalMart. They have the best produce. And if I am being lazy I have them match prices for items on sale in stores that I don't want to travel to.

I go there to stock up on food that i know will go fast, I love the 10/$10 sale, but, I also go there for the meat sales I catch every week, like whole sirlion tip for $1.99, a lb I get 10-20 lbs., have it cut the way i want and stock the freezer, with steak for the summer. I also go to Walmart, for the items that i use, cause they are cheaper there. I also go to Dollar Tree, for other things i use like freezer bags. I am a bargain hunter. My Moma taught me that.

I do NONE of my shopping at Wal-Mart. In fact, since we got a Target, I have not even been near hellmart. With coupons and sales I do MUCH better at Kroger, and Target clearance.

I go to Shop N Save because my daughter works there and it's just easy to run in and grab a few things when we drop her off at work. I also shop at Giant Eagle. When you use your rewards card, you get 10 cents off on gas for every $50 you spend. Right now we're up to 40 cents off. Walmart is cheaper on a lot of grocery items. But I hate standing in the long lines. The other day I got in line and there were 3 people ahead of me. Still, I ended up in line for half and hour. They are so slow at Walmart.

I mainly shop at walmart to since they're cheap and have alot more variety
. I switch it out though every other week than to Adams Fairacre Farms (get mostly meats and some produce there). Adams is expensive though and walmart comparabley actually has pretty good produce and sometimes taste is even better.

I love my Kroger! Except, I have to stop going there. They expanded the store, but they aren't carrying a lot of low carb stuff they used to anymore. So I'm going to WalMart, but I really don't like it very much. I can't stand Meijer at all. I hear that Aldi's has great produce, but for some reason I just can't remember to go there.

We've learned to stretch our money so we shop between walmart, sav a lot, pick n save, and dollar general. It gets real expensive shopping for a family of six and even worse now since dh got laid off from work. Every penny counts! We usually find really good deals at our walmart and the lines are pretty quick. I guess we're lucky to have a great walmart in our area. The people there are great for the most part, always helpful, its always clean and just a great store. If I'm in a hurry we just run to sav alot because its a block from our house. I've got to learn to start using coupons better! You guys are amazing!!

I stock up on can goods and dry foods like cereal, rice, pasta, etc. and some produce at Aldi's then I go to Checkers for my meat and some of the other things I need, because they have very good deals on thier meats. I stock up on paper goods and toiletries at Dollar General and I shop at Dillions during the week or Dollar Generals to pick up things I run out of because they are close. Dillions is the same as Krogers, but family owned I think.
