Here is the problem.

A guy buys 350 pairs of basketball sneakers and 150 pair of soccer shoes. He paid $62,500 for them. And when he sold them he made a 25% profit. He sold the soccer shoes for $130 a pair. How much did he sell the basketball sneakers for?

Thanks

If 2 trains where on the same track 150 miles apart, headed towards each other,
and one was going 75 mph and other was going 60 mph,
how quickly would they meet?

I never could get that one figured out.......
and my DS#1 is taking college Calculus 3 this summer.

Good thing you both agreed on the right answer!

OMG should hear hubby he is racking his brain to figure this one out. So soon as you find out the correct answer post it. He says they will meet in 1 hour and 7 1/2 minutes.

Yep...$167.50 for the basketball shoes.

First...you multiply the $62,500 by 25% which gets you $15,625. When that's added to the original cost...the total is $78,125.

Since 150 soccer shoes sold for $130 each, that totals $19,500. When that is subtracted from the $78,124, there remains $58,625.

When the $58,625 is divided by 350 (number of basketball shoes)...the amount equals $167.50 each.

150= total miles between the trains
1 = 1mile/minute (60mph)
1.25 = 1.25mile/minute (75mph)
x= unknown # of minutes when the 2 meet

150 = 1.25x + 1x
150 = 2.25x
150/2.25 = 2.25x/2.25
150/2.25 = x
66.666 minutes = x
6 hours, 6 minutes and 40 seconds
