Any one here from albuquerque new mexico? What's the weather like? Would you recommend it for a new family? My husband and i are thinking of moving there

I have lived in Albuquerque since I was little and I love it here. The temperature during this time of year ranges from the low 80's to mid 90's. As for weather, we've been seeing partly to mostly sunny with wind and some rain but not much. During the summer months, temperature is usually in the low to high 90's and windy. July is Monsoon season for New Mexico. During the winter months we don't get much snow but we do get rain. The northern part of the state usually gets the brunt of the snow.

Aside from the crime, Albuquerque is a great place to live. There are a lot of activites for families to do, such as, Hinkle Family Fun Center, Chuck E. Cheese's, Explora Museum, Natural History Museum, Rock Climbing Gym, Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, Route 66 Malt Shop, The New Mexico State Fair, Sandia Peak Ski Area, Sandia Peak Tram (The World's Longest), Cliff's Amusement Park, Albuquerque Aquarium, Rio Grande Zoo, Rio Grande Nature Center, Lodestar Astronomy Center, National Hispanic Cultural Center of New Mexico, National Atomic Museum, Putt-Putt Golf & Games, Petroglyph National Monument, Shady Lakes, and much more. Albuquerque also has 10 movie theatres - the most popular being Century Rio 24. There are plenty of bike and hiking trails surrounding Albuquerque.

Our Minor League baseball team is the Albuquerque Isotopes. They are the affiliate to the Florida Marlins.

I hope I answered all your questions. Feel free to pm me if you need additional information.

So what is the crime rate? is it petty crime? serious crime? In LA we get bank robberys, riots in schools, car chases about once a month. My car alone was broken into twice in 6 months my husband was once in the same six months. Can you tell why we don't want our kids to grow up in this enviroment.

I moved from Albuquerque to Las Cruces, NM. Been down here for two years now. Not anywhere near the crime that they have in Albuquerque. The weather is a little warmer than up there and not as much rain. And NO snow in the winter. Las Cruces is the fastest growing city in New Mexico and I would recommend it a lot more than I would Albuquerque. If you are serious about moving to New Mexico, I suggest you check into Las Cruces. If you have any questions about it here, feel free to PM me.

Thanks. Is the crime rate in Albuquerque due to the university being centered there? For some strange reasons I think LA is the worst. I'm also looking for a place where I can teach :)

I don't think that the university in Albuquerque has anything to do with the crime rate. Here in Las Cruces we have New Mexico State University and our crime rate is nowhere near Albuquerque's. But then Las Cruces is a lot smaller.

Cool, so I have some against it some for it. The crime rate seems to be an issue. What type of crimes happen in New Mexico?

We just want a place safer and cheaper then los angeles where we can raise our family. We have been wanting to have kids for a while. And my doctor keeps telling me that when I get pregnant to stop working so I won't miscarriage but thats not an option in LA. My husband would need to work double shifts min. and that might not be enough. Are the schools decent? I hear good things many of the times.

My hubby used to be a substitute teacher in Albuquerque and he says that if you move there you should seriously consider private school. From his experience, the gang situation is pretty bad at the public schools and the teachers mostly don't care. He lived in Albuquerque for over 20 years and raised 4 kids there.
Here in Las Cruces there is a small gang problem but not as bad. I don't have any school age kids but I have friends that do and from listening to them talk, the schools aren't as bad as Albuquerque.
