Well atleast an adopted mommy to a new feathered baby! We got a blue & gold macaw over the weekend. A lady bought him 2 weeks ago and was terrified of him. She couldn't handle him and said that he was mean. He would nip at her and she said he was too loud. He's a big bird, big birds can be loud! Heck my cockatiels can be loud! lol We got him for next to nothing and thought that even if it took awhile we would eventually get him to the point that we could handle him. We got him home and got him all settled in. By later that day he was climbing all over us and giving kisses left and right. He is the biggest sweetheart I have ever seen. Well next to my cockatoo who is a real cuddle-bug that is. lol He talks up a storm, asks to be held and/or pet, says he loves you, tells us to "let the dog out" when our dog has to go potty, asks where the kids are, asks where daddy is when dh is at work, asks for fruits and veggies, says so many things its incredible. He says that he's a "bad boy" or "naughty bird" though which he isn't so we are slowing changing that. Today he was saying "I'm a good bird, pretty bird" over and over and it was so cute! He is just amazing and I can't imagine anyone thinking he was mean. The only thing I can think of was that he could tell she was afraid of him and it gave him a sort of "power" over her? I'm glad we have him though and he will be loved for a very long time. That makes two birds that we've gotten this year that people said were "mean" and "unhandable" (sp?) that turned out to be the best birds I've ever seen. Our cockatoo (Tonka) was locked up all day with no attention, no toys with another cockatoo. They got bored so they over groomed each other and made a mess out of the feathers. Its going to take awhile for her to get her feathers back but I still think she's a real cutie! She didn't even know what to do with toys when we got her home. She hadn't been on a very healthy diet either but she's doing wonderfully now.The lady that we bought the Macaw from got him from a bunch of people that hadn't handled him in almost 2 years because they were "too busy". She felt bad and took him home and then decided that she couldn't take care of him the way he needed to be. I give her alot of credit for realizing that she couldn't do it and decided to find a good home for him. It was alot better then just keeping him locked in a cage. He is just about 3 years old now and will never be without love and attention again. He has free run of the house and he is even trained to go potty in his cage instead of where ever he might be! My cockatoo is also "potty trained" so its really nice. I just had to brag a little bit about our new baby. I'd post a picture of him but have no idea how.

Congrats on your new bird. I like watching birds out the window, in zoos, etc. But would never own one because they scare me.

I love my birds but I can understand being afraid of them. My MIL is afraid of birds something horrible but she will atleast be in the same room as my cockatoo which is a BIG deal for her! I have a friend that is ok with the birds as long as they don't come too close. I still love him the same, I understand that he's afraid of them and I respect that. I have things that I'm afraid of too. Nothing wrong with it, just the way it is sometimes. :) Thank you for the congrats. :D

Aloha from paradise, Lucy is a very beautiful bird!
I just love cockatoos because they are so lovable and such cards! Well atleast Tonka is. lol She loves to cuddle and acts so silly sometimes. She can bring a smile to my face even on the worst of days. :)
George is a sweetheart too just doesn't like to be cuddled like Tonka does. And he can make my frown turn to a smile too. :D

Thanks Mom,
Lucy's wing feathers look sort of dirty in the photo. My husband doesn't always wash his hands before petting her. And she hates to take a bath. Lucy is about 22 and she is so sweet. Loves to cuddle and sleep in bed under the covers. She is very jealous of the other animals. She rules this house. I love the Macaw! Beautiful bird. Thought about getting one but I'm already 51 and you know how long these birds live. Both of your birds are beautiful :)

Thank you Shannykitty. :D

Aloha, my husband does the same thing with Tonka! Must be a guy thing! lol
Tonka loves to sleep in bed with me under the blankets too. She'll crawl right up there, lay her head on my pillow and pull the blankets right up to her. Its so cute when she does it! lol :p
The macaw, George, is working his way into owning the house. I think him and Tonka have come to a mutual agreement on who gets what. lol He's a ham and loves to be silly. He's a pretty boy and tells us every chance he gets! lol Right now he's sitting here counting to five and then going back to one. He's copying the kids too because he started yelling "mom" just like them! I love my birds and would be totally lost without them. Even on the worst of days they can make me smile. Tonka has her way of cuddling right up under my chin and saying "love you" that wipes away any feelings of sadness.
My dh wanted a macaw for the longest time but we never really looked at getting one until George came along. He needed a home and we knew we could give him one. I will never regret our decision. Ok, George is saying its play time now. Silly boy! Thank you again for the congrats. :D

I am sooooooooooo jealous!!! What beautiful birds!!!!!!!! I hope to be lucky enough to one day own a parrot or a cockatoo. We have a cockatiel now and he is a ham. We got him from a garage sale and he is about 3 years old. His name is Mister Birdie. My cat sleeps on top of his cage and he just sings to her! LOL.

Thank you moe265. :D I'd like to say we own them but in reality they own us! lol I started out with a cockatiel 5 years ago. Since then I've "inherited" 4 more cockatiels. Someone decided she didn't want hers no more because they were too much work. Add that to the two lovebirds that my husband felt bad for and brought home, our house sounds like a zoo! :p lol I wouldn't have it any other way though. ;)
