I will NEVER understand how things like this are constitued as 2nd degree murder :mad: They were so messed up on drugs, they couldn't watch their own child (earlier news reports said that they were passed out for hours during and AFTER the child had died) there is a special place in Heaven for this baby... and a special place in hell for the "parents".

Tulsa - Jury selection is set to begin in the trial of a woman accused in her baby's burning death.

Jeannie Henderson is charged with second degree murder in the death of her eight-month-old son, Christopher, who died December 14, 2003 after his walker got stuck over a floor furnace.

Henderson and her husband, Ray Jerry Lee Marten, were allegedly in a drug haze when the incident occurred.

Marten also faces charges in the case. Henderson and Marten are being tried separately in the case.

It's second degree because she didn't directly kill him. What a waste. So strung out that they let their child die, but then what can you expect from a drug addict? Not responsibility. Too bad someone didn't think to report the parents and have the child removed from the home.

and people wonder why I have such a problem with other people who have kids and use drugs... I don't care what kind of drugs you are using, if you are using then your kids should be taken from you....

but that is MY opionon.

We had a lady here, that burned a little girl while she was watching her. She put her in scalding water and held her by her ankles and finally took her to the hospital 12 hours later. That little girls last hours were hell until she passed away from the trauma.The dang DA let her plead out. She got child neglect. No murder, no manslaughter, NOTHING.

This is the same DA that let a guy who went out drinking, with his 5 and 7 year old's in the back seat, crashed, the kids were thrown and died at the scene, plead out and he only got child neglect, and reckless driving. WTH?

Oklahoma is whacked. You can kill a kid, and get not even a slap on the wrist, but heaven forbid you smoke pot. You will go to jail for life for that one. :rolleyes: Somewhere, this states priorities got whacked out.

Well I understand the law part of it... but what I meant to say (and I never do a good job of doing lol) was that I don't understand why in some situations (like this) where the when the parents actions have a direct affect on the death of their children, that they can't get 1st degree. Good thing for stupid people I am not in a position to make the laws.

I'd also charge drunk drivers who kill people with 1st degree as well. ... but thats just me.
