Sorry you are having a flare up.
FMS is hard to live with at times.
Todays symptoms are:
Several tender points burning, back, legs, shoulder and arms are crampy, starting to get a headache, feeling about 20 feet thick with the fog. Oh yea and my hips burn. I started using Cymbalta at the first of the year and it has helped with the fatigue. I still have harsh flare ups with pain, but less fatigue for a few more hours on the good days.
Sending you gentle hugs!

You will start hearing more and more about fibro. My mom has had it for about 10 years. I never had heard of it then and just the last year or so I hear it all the time. Very painful. My mom tries to keep doing what she always did but its at a slower pace but she says if she just sits and takes it easy it seems worse.

I first heard about it a couple of years ago here at BBS when someone else had posted about it. I had seen a program on either Discovery or TLC and apparently a lot of people in the medical field don't feel that it's an actual disease. They said it was an invented disease and money was being made off of it by giving out psychiatric drugs. They also mentioned bipolar and how the drug companies will invent illnesses so that they can sell drugs. I'm not saying this is true or that I share their views it's just something that I had seen on tv.
I'm sorry you're in pain Katzenberg. I hope you feel better soon.

It infuriates me mad that some people in the medical community consider Fibromyalgia (FMS) a "fad disease". I also believe that those in the medical community that share such and opinion do because they can't find a cause for it or can perform a surgery to repair the condition. I was born with Mitral Valve Prolapse Dysautonomia, when I was a teenager the FMS symptoms began. It was much easier to deal with the symptoms of these conditions when I was younger. But once I became a woman and the symptoms became harder to deal with I was treated poorly, labeled, and ignored by so many doctors. I am certainly happier now that the 5% of the population that suffer from this and other related disorders stopped allowing doctors to treat "us" as if "we" are making things up.
"In short Fibromyalgia is a disorder that causes muscle pain and fatigue (feeling tired). People with fibromyalgia have "tender points" on the body. Tender points are specific places on the neck, shoulders, back, hips, arms, and legs. These points hurt when pressure is put on them.
People with fibromyalgia may also have other symptoms, such as:
Trouble sleeping
Morning stiffness
Headaches
Painful menstrual periods
Tingling or numbness in hands and feet
Problems with thinking and memory (sometimes called "fibro fog"). " From Medline Plus (http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/fibromyalgia.html)
For those who are not familiar with Fibromyalgia, please take a moment to read thru some of the sites (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=fibromyalgia) there is so much more to FMS than that short little explanation.

:D Too funny!!
I remember one time a doctor told me that "he couldn't cure me..".
I looked at him and said, "I am not here for a CURE, I am here for you to treat my symptoms and give me a better quality of life".
The look on his face was priceless!

That is the right attiude! Quality of life is the MOST Important thing, remember, you have fibro, fibro doesnt have YOU.
Something that I just thought of, what is your diet like? Silly question I know, you might want to try eating a better diet, cut back on the carbs, more simple sugars VS processed, maybe that might help the energy level drain associated with the Fibro. My ex husband had MS, a better diet REALLY helped, but he couldnt stick with it.

That is right. I live inside this body but my illness will not be the only definition of who I am.

No it isn't a silly question. But I do follow the recommended diet. I found that the South Beach Diet also has many yummy recipes! I do "treat" myself with caffeine free Pepsi or a Carb-smart ice cream bar once and a while. Fatigue is just part of the deal. For instance, the last four days I have been doing a lot of house cleaning. There just comes a point where the fatigue is just there and nothing is left to do but stop and rest. For many FMS patients, abnormal sleep patterns is part of the deal. Often the lack of restorative sleep leads to my fatigue as well as Restless Leg Syndrome that interupts sleep.
