I have been selling on ebay for about four months now and just recently I have been having some problems, people not paying for one and then today I get this in my email......

Dear Cluelless,
Just wanted to contact you as soon as I discovered the mishap. My child gained entry and decided to bid on an item unfortunately yours was it. I am sorry for this, and will understand if you choose to give me a negative feed-back. I'm hoping by contacting you a few days before the auction closes it will assist you in re-selling your item. Respectfully, Michael

I almost want to say sorry its your luck, but this guy doesn't seem to understand that this is costing me money to put up and granted the item in question is not that expensive, but its not the point! I tried to look for the thread where you all have answered this once before.......
any advice will be very helpful thanks!

if the auction hasn't ended just cancel his bid. go to help pages and it'll tell you how to do it. if it has ended, then you have to decide if you want to leave neg feedback and risk possible retalitory negative feedback to you.

the auction still has al ittle over 3 days on it,
I totally forgot about cancelling his bid!
Thank you!
but what would you tell this person?
I don't want to be rude but I don't want this person to possibly pull this one on me again, granted the chances of that are 1 in 1 million...

I'm not positive but I think you can block him from bidding on your auctions. I had to change my password for ebay because my son almost bid on a De Lorean that some guy was selling in England a couple of months ago.

Bidder Block

Sellers have the option of making their listings unavailable to a list of bidders. The blocked bidders will receive an error message stating that they are not allowed to bid on that seller's listings.

Blocked bidders also may not bid on that seller's listings with another User ID. This could result in their indefinite suspension from eBay.

If you are blocked from a listing and want to get in touch with the seller to discuss the situation, click on the seller's User ID or the "ask the seller a question" link on the listing page for a contact form.

Stop that. :D I told him I would look and see if they had any models or match box cars but he got impatient and took it upon himself. Thankfully I realized what he was doing before he put a bid in. lol

It was the real thing. lol I don't think he realized what would happen if he put in a bid. lol I would of been getting a non paying bidder warning and I didn't want that to happen.

Can't the bidder pull the bid, a bid retraction? That way it goes on their feedback for a bid retraction so it looks bad on them and it doesn't cost you anything?

I believe since there are 3 days left in the auction it wouldn't cost her anything to retract the bid because the auction hasn't ended yet.

I already retracted the bid for them and you can't pull your bid unless you and the seller agree. as far as I understand it.

That's not correct. You do not have to have the seller's permission to retract a bid. It's just that if the buyer does it, it shows up in their info. If you do more than a couple during a six month period, eBay will suspend you for a while. If the seller retracts, it leaves the buyer in the clear and he/she can do it again. I asked about it on 'live help' on eBay.

I checked because my next door neighbor came over and asked me to bid on something for her. I was confused because I knew she had a computer. I was trying to tell her how to open an eBay account when she finally came clean and told me that eBay had suspended her for six months because she had five retractions in six months. I asked her why. She told me that sometimes she just changed her mind and sometimes she would bid a lot and then discover her budget wouldn't cover it. (And she wants to bid on MY account????) I told her I would have to ask hubby. I didn't ask, but I told her hubby said no. Then I went to eBay and clicked on the 'live help' button and they explained about retractions.

I would have made this guy retract the bid himself. I tried to be fair to people on Ebay when I selling but I have gotten burned to many time that I stopped selling for a while. I had one girl that had no feedback at all. I had the pleasure of being her first seller on Ebay. I had been on for three years already and worked for the good feedback. Well I was selling a lot of RC cola bottles. When the auction ended I emailed this girl four times. Never heard from her. I decided just to let it go and not give her bad feedback. Then I looked on my feedback one day and she had the nerve to leave me bad feedback and said that I never contacted her. Well I was ill so I called her on the phone and told her that I had emailed her four times with no response and why did she feel the need to give me bad feedback. She said that she hadn't recieved any messages and though I was ignoring her. I said have you ever heard of a phone. I know that I didn't call her but I usually don't if I can't contact through email , I usually just resell the item. If the item isn't that much money. She said that she was sorry and would write a rebutal on the feedback. She finally sent the money for the bottles about two weeks later and I got no rebutal remarks on the feedback, so I left her a bad feedback for her first one because I think she was trying to get out of buying the bottles. Didn't mean to write a book but it is just it is just a bad subject with me after that.

well, I guess I will learn something new everyday, the next time someone does this to me I will make them retract their bid. And the people that burned me this time are on my block list, so I don't have to worry about their "child" bidding for them again. But then again, it doesn't matter with this person, I have 4 people right now who bid and won and of course haven't paid me and they are not responding to ebay's emails either. I have 4 more days and then I can put the stuff back up on the auction block. an one item is worth $50.00, I was really looking forward to that extra $50.00 I wanna put some flowers in my flower bed! :( its looking very sad....

but anyway, Thank you all for your advice and help!
