I'm in New Port Richey, which is on the west coast, north of Clearwater. PM me if you'd like. I'll try to help as much as I can. I've been in this same area over 30 years, so if you have questions about this area, I should be able to help.

We were thinking about Kissimmee... Is that anywhere near Port Richey?

I don't live in Florida, but vacation there every summer and I love it!
Kissimmee is close to Orlando. And the Gulf coast is beautiful .. went to a state park called Honeymoon Island last summer which is North of Tampa and it is awesome! We always stay on the East Coast (Cocoa Beach) but take a day to drive to the Gulf.
If you decide to move, good luck with it :) .. someday I hope to live there myself.

Ok.. now I really wanna go... Now I am actually starting to look for jobs there. I think the only thing I am afraid of is the hurricanes...

No matter where you live you have to worry about something .. you live in California now .. earthquakes .. I live in Ohio, tornados, blizzards .. you decide to move to Florida .. hurricanes .. I say go for it!
If I could I'd do it .. my hubby doesn't want to live in FLA though .. lol .. but some day I will.

Very true... Luckily though we hardly ever get earthquakes here. Except for in 1989.. We felt the aftershocks and it cracked all the walls...
But I would like to get out of dodge (CA) lol... I can barely stand it here.. The economy has dropped so much.. I would just love to start over somewhere else..

I've lived in Florida before and you couldn't pay me to live there ever again. If you are actually serious about moving there you would be wise to take a trip there before you make the decision.Florida is NOT all sunshine and pretty palm trees. There's alot of bad things about the state too.I have relatives who still live there and they are really starting to hate it too and they live in Palm Beach County which is one of the nicer places to live.I say check it out thoroughly before you do it.Good Luck.

I live outside of Orlando. I love it here in Florida and I have been to many states. I would not be anywhere else. Yes it is hot, but it is only real bad in the height of summer. Plus, I love being able to wear shorts almost all year round. Hurricanes can be intimidating (esp this last season) but I would still rather deal with hurricanes than tornadoes.
If you are serious, you should arrange a trip to the area you want to settle down in to see it from your own point of view. Also be sure to check out info on schools, employment, apartment/houses and anything else you can think of which will be important in your daily life. Good luck and feel free to PM me if you have any questions :D

We live in Pompano Beach, a block out of Ft Lauderdale for 6 months out of the year. We love it. But I would definitely check out the area before you make a complete move down here. Like anywhere else there is more crime in some areas than others. It all depends on what you are looking for. We would move here full time if it weren't that it is so far from our family. We are retired so see the area from that view point. We are close enough to the water to almost always have a good breeze, about 4 miles. It doesn't get any hotter here than in Alabama in the hottest days. But it is true it is not always sunshine and palm trees. No matter where you live the annoyances of daily life are going to go with you. Good luck on your decision.

I am going to go down there in July... My grandparents stay there for the winters, and they love it. So in July I am going to go check it out, and see what it is like.. I dont mind the hot weather, I love hot weather.
I just mainly want to see what all the people are like..

Lovebugg;
Well I have to say that we all probably think that our part of Florida is the best. I myself wouldn't want to live north of Sarasota, it gets to cold in the winter. We live in Southwest Florida and absolutely love it and wouldn't move to another state for nothing.
Every state has their own natural disasters, and yes we were caught in a couple of bad hurricanes last year, but at least with hurricanes you know they are coming and you get prepared. With tornadoes and blizzards and earthquakes you don't know they are coming until it's too late.
And yes most of the winter while everyone up north was complaining about being so cold we were running around in tshirts and shorts and going to the beach. The gulf coast is lovely all year long.
I hope you find what you are looking for and are happy with it.
