I got 7 scoops of mulch to spread and my period for my first mother's day as a mom, (not including the Rottweiler).
Hope someone else has a better day than I'm going to.

I'm sorry your day was bad. Mine turned out pretty good this year. My son gave me fifty dollars to buy my own present.(works for me) My daughter got hubby & me a dvd player.(combo mothers & fathers present) My daughter also made me the cutest gifts from the grandbabies. One is 4 & the other is 1.
She took a ceramic tile (like from a counter top) and used their fingers to make flowers then drew a stem and used their thumb to make the leaves. She also put the little one's footprint on hers. SOOOO cute!!!!!

I didn't do much better on my first Mother's Day. Luckily they tend to get better. :)
I saw a $50 Starbucks card hanging up at the register at the grocery store about a month ago and told ds I would feel kinda rich if I had one of those. He told his brother and they went together to get me one.
Total waste of money, but I love it. :)

It's not that I don't appreciate it, but I work every other day of the year, do I really have to today? I love my DH and DS (who by the way is so adorable), but dang it's my first mother's day.

I got card from the hubby and my son which is fine, but I was making my mother's favorite cake for her and as it was cooling on the table my dog decided to jump up and eat some. I am totally furious. This is not usually something he would do. He is two years old and within the past two weeks this is the second time he has done something like this. OOOOH, I'm about to send him packing! Now I have to make a trip to the store and try to make another one in time for dessert tonight.

I woke up to coffee in bed from my husband (I forgot to get eggs, or I'd have had breakfast too). When I walked into the living room, I saw some beautiful pink roses. There are 20 of them! They came from my son. He put a lot of thought into it too. He went into the kitchen, where I have pink rose dishes, took the large milk pitcher I have, and used it as a vase. :) It was on the computer desk with a LARGE message on the screen: HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!!! I LOVE YOU!!!!!
What a good boy. My youngest daughter called me from Cleveland this morning. She had gone up for the weekend to visit friends and do some missionary work. What a good girl. :) I'm waiting on a call from my oldest. I hope I get one!

Mine has been pretty good so far. Now last night was a different story though. LOL
When DH woke me up this morning he told me Happy Mother's Day and gave me a kiss. He then went and turned the coffee pot on for me. lol He came back into the bedroom and told me that he took a vacation day so he could spend the day with me, then he went to sleep. LOL He had worked all night, so I really can't complain.
When I went through the house I seen some roses in a vase, sitting on the entertainment center, along with two beautiful cards. One of the cards was from him and the other was from the kids. So cute and they made me cry. :o
DH and the two little ones took me out to breakfast on Thursday as part of my gift and today I'm not cooking! We will pick something up for dinner when we go out to town later. :)
My dad called and wished me a Happy Mother's Day as well as my MIL. My mom told me when I called her this morning to wish her a happy mother's day.
All in all its been a pretty good day here.
Happy Mother's Day to all of the Moms here!

we dont believe in presents...
but both my girls were here for the night last night(older DD too) and they made me breakfast this morning and older DD(Amber) cut my hair this morning before she left to go back to her place.
She would of stayed longer but looks like we have a T-storm coming and she left the windows at her house open.
Happy Mothers Day everyone

Happy Mother's Day!
I received Mother's Day cards and happy wishes.
DH is getting my gift this afternoon,
so will open tonight.
What has meant more than anything is that my
DS#2 (just turned age 16) bought me 4 matching,
beautiful tri-colored candles
and candle holders with his own money.
This is the first gift he has ever gotten me
with his own funds.
And he did it all by himself.
I even think he used some of his birthday money
for the candles for me.
That means the world to me.

I was complaining about my kids fighting and dh being crabby but realized it didn't matter. Atleast I could listen to them bicker and could tuck them in at night.
The day got better. We went to our daughters dance recital and they both did perfectly and looked so beautiful! Our boys both apologized for fighting and gave me the biggest hugs. So the day did end on a better note then it started on. :)

Sweetie let me sleep late. I woke up to coffee in bed and then he made me breakfast (french toast and ham steaks), it was great. Sweetie got me a diamond tennis bracelet, while he was on one of his trips, he put it in his pocket and broke it and he had to take it to the jewerler's to get it fixed and while he was there he got another diamond tennis bracelet that I broke fixed, so I got 2 gifts instead of one. And he cooked me dinner, and made me a banana pudding for dessert ( for a minute I thought my mother was in the kitchen with him, while he was making it. It taste just like hers. And he put a bracelet on layaway for me. HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY ALL!!!!!!!!!!!

You know something I envy you getting dead flowers from your kids and the bickering because I went to the cemetery today and placed flowers by my 2 childrens graves and you know what I would give to hear them fight? Think about that sometime you guys might not like Risa but she has a point I spent most of my day with my DD but I also went up and sat with my other 2 kids by their headstones and cleaned them off and gave them flowers.
What I would give for one mothers day with all of my children you all have it so lucky

I'm so sorry for your losses evrita. :( It seems sometimes the true meaning of Mother's Day gets lost in the gift giving and commercial crap that's everywhere. I just spent the day being thankful I still have my kids with me and that my mom is still with me as well. After losing my dad, everything else seems to have gained a new perspective.

I woke up today missing my baby boy terribly. We had planned to go have 4-D ultrasounds done during the week of Mother's Day, as my gift this year, but after we lost him last month, I didn't even want this day to arrive. I wasn't sure I'd be able to be "happy" today. But guess what my daughter did? She started walking, I mean really walking, today. By the time she wore herself out tonight, she had mastered walking across the living room, as well as climbing up on a dining room chair by herself, and running away giggling when her daddy chased her. Then a thunderstorm began to roll in. I took her out onto the front porch and let her see the lightning all around our town. The thunder boomed and she snuggled close to me, and patted me on my shoulder, the same way I pat her when I am comforting her. I miss my Drake so much...but Cadence made today beautiful, and what better gift could I ask for than that?

lol, they let me sleep until 10:30! I can't believe it! have not slept that late in at least a year :o
I woke up to breakfast in bed, a toy crown and a homemade card from my son! The cards are a tradition in my family. My granny has all of the homemade cards from her kids, my mom has all of them from us 4 and I have carried on the tradition. No store bought allowed and any gifts must be homemade! lol, the best part about today was spending the entire day with hubby and ds. that is all I asked for-I have been working non-stop and in between work and baseball (hubby is coach) I never see the family!
I think mother's day gets better when the kids are a lil older-remeber, new dads have no clue how important mother's day is until father's day rolls around and we lavish them with love, then the lightbulb goes off! ;)

I started my day off working, hubby wish me a happy mom's day, before I left. My dd bugged me and called me all day while I was at work, didn't bother to wish me a hmd. Then I came home, dh was gone, so I was able to lay out in the sun for a while and get a slight sunburn. One of my ds, got me a keychain, my two dd's gave me a card, my other ds gave me food packets for flowers that I didn't get. DH told me last night he got me a card, but the kids never signed it yet, so I didn't get it, and he also took me out for dinner. The day went well tho, and I got to go to bed early, so that was nice.

My Moms day was terrific. My oldest came home on saturday evening from school. This was a big deal because of the campus 4 day scanvenger hunt was still in full swing. He bought dinner that night from one of our favorite pizza places. I got to sleep til 11 when hubby woke me up with a kiss and a Happy Moms day message. I came out to the kitchen to find coffee and doughnuts. 2 great cards a huge purple petunia flower hanging basket from my youngest. Son #3bought my a vase and a package of lighters since I cannot seem to keep track of them lately. Son #2 went back to school on saturday morning but left a nice handmade card and a cd he made of my favorite 151 songs. Then son #2s gal pal came by with a bell, which I collect and a package of sixlets and a very nice card. She stayed and chated with me for about an hour. Then I drove son #1 back to school. As I got out of the car to give him a hug goodby he introduced me to 2 female friends. He then informed me that they were about to present me with my Moms day gift.
They sang "All My Loving" from the Beatles. They had beautiful voices and then suddenly a guy with a guitar nearby joined in. It made me cry. Then I asked him if he chose the song and he said yes. I said its because you miss us at home being here at school right and he said no, I just liked the song. LOL. It had to have been the best Moms day in my 20 years of being a Mom.
Oh yeah, hubby bought me candy and a pack of smokes which he hates buying me.

Then my sisters fought all day, but she seemed to enjoy it.

My kitty gave me $40 so I could have some munchies and beer at the minor-league baseball game...but I only had a hot dog. I hit the souvenir shop and got 2 t-shirts from the clearance rack for 5 bucks each (one for my DBF, since that's where Scruffy gets her $ ;) ) and then after the game went shopping and got myself a new dustbuster, some new pillow cases, a pair of capri pants and a sports bra! Between the kitty's money, gift cards and coupons, I only spent about $20 of my own money.

I got a beautiful diamond ring from my wonderful daughter. I had been lusting after it for the longest time but just couldn't make myself spend $1231.00 for a ring I really didn't need. I just wanted it :) My husband is redoing my bathroom. New counters, floors, mirrors you name it. It will look so pretty when it's done. My grandson who is seven made me the cutest card. My father-in-law gave me $50.00. So it turned out to be a nice day....

Saturday my DH came home from work and took my 8 year old 'shopping'. I was told to stay home and pack a small case for an overnight trip. Figured we were going somewhere with a zoo--was I fooled! We drove about 2 miles, DH pulled into McDonalds, and thru to the Holiday Inn behind it. He had rented the BIG Jacuzzi room, and he and my daughter had filled it with flowers, new bath stuff, candles, and a bottle of non-alcoholic champagne! He then took her swimming for a couple hours so I could soak in the tub in peace. It was incredible! I certainly scored big! We had dinner in the room from my favorite Mexican place. Best Mom's day I ever had!!

Thanks Peanut. I have cooled down and can see the humor in it now. And your note made me chuckle because that is exactly what happened to me. I had to pee and when I walked out there he was licking his chops, looking like the Cheshire Cat. Now, you know when he does something wrong he always knows and hangs his head in shame, but not this time. He was just so pleased with himself. Don't you know, he managed to nibble half way around each layer of the cake. Oh well, I went to the store, got new ingredients and made another. It all worked out. Ah, the trials and tribulations...

I didn't get anything material per say, but I got lots of gifts. DS was so helpful and kind the whole day (he is 16) and made me feel appreciated. DH cooked two meals, and grilled the meat for the entire week! DD told me she loved me at least 20 times, and that I am "the best mom in the whole world" twice. She also made me three precious cards, and put her heart in every one of them. She wrote me a poem also, I will post it here:
Mama Mama
Mama Mama, I love you so,
Your face is as white as snow.
Your hair is so red,
Like a rose on top of your head.
And when I'm sleeping in my bed,
I have wonderful thoughts of you in my head.
Yet again, Mama, I love you so.
Mama, Mama please don't go.
Isn't that adorable? I am framing it..

And when I'm sleeping in my bed,
I have wonderful thoughts of you in my head.
Yet again, Mama, I love you so.
Mama, Mama please don't go.
Isn't that adorable? I am framing it..
that is soooooooooooo sweet

It sounds like you have wonderfully grounded kids. :) The non-material things are the best things you could get.
Linda

I'm not complaining I didn't get anything materialistic, but to feel appreciated by DH would have been nice. I know my son loves me and appreciates me just by the smiles he gives me and the coos he makes. I do love my family and couldn't ask for anything more, but did I really have to mulch for mother's day?

I got to make my kids happy vs breaking their heart. Once again we have a sick kitty. Had to find a vet opened on a Sunday. Option was put cat down or pay to have him unblocked. I about died when the first estimate for treatment came in at just under $700. Payment due up front. No way could I afford that amount in one chunk, luckily the vet took mercy on me and did the bare bones treatment to save the cats life with the understanding that I HAD to do follow up treatment with our regular vet or this was all for nothing. So, she got the bill down to $266 and had me pick cat up next morning to take to regualr vet where I can make payments. Phoenix is recovering, and with any luck he will return by Wednesday and this vet bill won't be much over $250....sigh.
The kids are happy, I'm gonna be broke, DH is grumbling about vet cost in the past 10 months..... but hard to put a price on their happiness.

Well I'm not a mom to anyone but my kitty so I didn't get anything but I got my mom an angel windchime, a box of funny bones (dont ask lol) a yankee candle and one of those warmers that go under it so you don't have to light it, and a gorgeous opal and blue topaz bracelet for her to wear to work. Then my sisters fought all day, but she seemed to enjoy it.
Did you say funny bones?YUMM!God i miss Massachusetts lol!Couldnt find them in ga or here in new mexico...I guess its time for me to call my mom and ask her to mail me some!FUNNY BONES..............

You can't get funny bones down there?? Oh no lol. When my aunt lived in Texas she used to make us send her funny bones and pea soup. I guess you couldn't find them around where she lived. Thats OK because down South y'all have mello yellow & they don't sell it in MA anymore. We drive to New Hampshire and Vermont just to get it lol.

That's just wrong. Who made you mulch on Mother's Day? For shame.
On DH's not recognizing you on mother's day... I see both sides. One, you aren't their mother, but two, you are the mother of their children.

I was/am very excited. I love flowers and I've always wanted a bouquet of rainbow roses. I cried when I got the charm bracelet. I think it's beautiful and I love A v e r y's little 'Mother & Child' charm with her birthstone. I didn't think we'd have any $ for Mother's Day, but DH just went on his Annual Training for the Reserves and his work still pays him for that time gone, so the AT pay is extra! :D

For those who complain about what they got for Mother's Day.. get over it. My Mom buried her father for Mother's Day.
There are alot of mothers who would love to just be able to LOOK or hug their children. So don't whine about getting something crappy or not getting anything at all.

How true. We should appreciate the unconditional love of our children!
Sorry about your grandfather. :(

I DO appreciate that I have my son and my mother and wish my grandparents were still alive, I don't want anything materialistic, but to be appreciated by my DH is that to much to ask? Sheesh!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I know this is going to start a pissing match and I feel for anyone who has lost a child or a parent, but I too have lost a lot my grandparents pretty much raised me and they are both gone my grandmother when I was 19 and my grandfather when I was 21 not even a month after I got married!
All I can say is anyone on the outs with your parents make amends and if you still have your grandparents even if they are cenile or have alteimers go visit them you do not know how lucky you are to still have them here even if you have to listen to the same story over and over and over (you'll miss that when they are gone) trust me I do, and if you have a child or children cherish them every day give them lots of hugs and kisses and tell them you love them never tell them they are stupid (even if they do stupid things) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And remember for those of you who have young children they are only little once and enjoy every minute of it, the cobwebs and dust can wait for they are only little once. Also take lots of pictures ( I have 2 albums full and 2 videos of my son and he's only 5 months old).

I was merely pointing out how petty it is to complain about getting a crap gift.
My Mom lost my brother 3 years ago a month and a half before Mother's Day. And I know that several Mothers who've lost children would gladly put up with junk/no gifts from their kids if they could only see/hug them again.
As for losing Grandparents, it's hard but nothing like losing a child. You expect to bury your Grandparents. You grow up pretty much knowing they'll die sometime. A Mother never gives birth to a child thinking that they'll bury that child.

ITA you never expect your child to be born then to be planning your funeral for that child. Ashley I am so sorry for all your family has been thru I hope your gram is doing ok.
Also on another note if your hubby teats you like crap dump his arse to the curb or continue to be the doormat

It was a good day!
Your day was almost the same as mine. My kids saved up their change and bought me plants from 4H at their school. They each brought me petunias, marigolds, zinias (sp) and tomato plants. They did good. Each plant was like .50 so they pulled quite a bit of money together. They also made me cards and IOU's for housework. They are 6,8, and 10 and refuse to do chores, so they don't get an allowance, so this was a big leap for them to save up that much. It was a lot of scavenging loose change lol. I know the cleaning IOU's were hard for them too, because we fight just to clean rooms.
My DH and I don't exchange gifts, because well, we aren't each other's parents, but he did make breakfast and dinner, then sat in the hot tub with me and gave the longest, best massage I have ever had. He also planted me two more rose bushes and did some extra landscaping around the house.
I'm sorry for those that have lost loved ones. Ya'll are right though, a simple "I love you mom" and a hug can beat out anything and make the worst situation better. I consider myself very lucky and VERY blessed that I have them around even when it comes to fighting about room cleaning. ;)

I got to spend the day with my kids doing nothing! and we loved it!
my oldest son made me a spinning thing you hang it outside and it spins around, it was made out of two colors of yarn and some type of string, very cute, I just have to find somewhere to put it and my youngest son who is in Kindergarden gave me a marigold and made me the cutest mother's day card, He even wrote so perfectly happy Mother's Day, I love you ...... (i cried) all this was done at school.
I got my mom a Pink Peace lily but she had to work on Mother's Day so I gave it to her on Monday and she loved it.
