the town trash, whores, bums, etc go to this little catholic nun and get free gas. (she calls us and they come pick it up, then she gets a bill.) the gas is paid for with donations made to the catholic church. most of these people aren't catholics, so they don't need to be there in the first place. flame me for that if you want, but that's how i feel. if you don't donate and never have, you don't need to take it. and quit throwing a fit because your voucher isn't here when you want it. it's free you skanky idiot! you should be glad you even get it, stop crying because it's not here now!
and before anyone tries to start this string of bs: I DO NOT GET FREE GAS. THIS IS A PROGRAM THAT I AM INVOLVED IN ON THE BUSINESS END, NOT THE RECEVING END. I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW THIS PROGRAM EXISTED BEFORE I LEARNED ABOUT IT. yes i know that doesn't make sense but i am not giving out too much info just in case someone knows what i am talking about or figures it out.
one woman actually called her lawyer and said we harrassed her. boo hoo. that is not true witch, and you know it. this woman and her crew had several vouchers called in and put them in 1 car. against the rules, and you're just mad you got found out.
i hate people more and more each day i leave my house.

That is kinda harsh, not all ppl that need a helping hands are bums, or trash, most are honest legitimate people trying to get a helping hand, not a handout. Learn from the nun, she gives because she wishes to help others, not to stand in judgement of others.
However, on the OTHER end of the stick, I know how frustrating it is to see ppl come back time after time with their hands out, never once trying to better themselves, just looking for a free ride

She should be embarressed of herself, I know I could never do anything like that and be able to sleep at night. :( I completely understand, I hate ppl more and more each day especially living in Vegas. :(

Geez, if this woman could afford to have a lawyer at her beck and call it seems to me that she could be able to afford her own gas.
I understand what you mean about people not being appreciative what they are given and the fact that so many try to take advantage of a good program when they may not need it nearly as much as someone else.
Back in 1999, hurricane Floyd came through here and destroyed our home. We lost everything that we owned except for our car and a few pieces of clothing that we had packed in an overnight bag. We went to the food bank of a church to get some food that was supposed to be only for flood victims. One woman was loading up on stuff, when someone said to her "hey, you were not flooded out, I know exactly where you live and it was dry over there." The woman snapped back (just like this), "I didn't say I flooded, I said I's in da flood." Sigh.....

Not only is it harsh but it is also one of the biggest misconceptions floating around . It's also one of the reasons the democrats are against the government helping out faith based charities like they do other charities. You don't have to belong to or believe in a particular religion in order to recieve assistance. They are here to help those who need it. Truthfully it should be their job to do it and NOT the government. Might I suggest if you are helping so reluctantly that you find some other way to help people who you believe to be deserving. ;) :D

There are people who do need it, but then there are freeloaders, those people tick me off so bad! Its ridiculous, I would be pissed if I were you too. And to get something free and complain about it is crazy! Thats like me getting a free sample at a store then calling a lawyer because I thought it was gross lol.

I don't think she was intending to generalize like that. It's awful though when certain people take advantage of something good over and over and over again without thought of others who might actually NEED it, not WANT it for free.

:D Well said - these people obviously "qualified" for the program. If they lied to get it, then that is on them.
In regards to not even being Catholic, who are YOU to deem them unworthy due to their choice of religion? The Catholic faith is known for their generosity to ALL people.

Our library gave away free ice cream cards for a local business (donated) last summer. Someone stole a huge stack of them and actually STOOD OUTSIDE THE BUSINESS and kept coming in for more ice cream. THe family of like 20 actually showed up and used the coupons again and again. What could the store do? The coupon didn't say {"one per person once a day" or whatever. Unbelivable things people will do!!!

When a person takes advantage of a freebie, chances are that business will not participate again. So all they have done is put an end to someone who thought they were doing something helpful.
Yes there are always people who will take advantage of charity. But there are just as many who need the assistance. The woman who called the lawyer should be taken from the list. It is obvious she doesn't need the help.

Well, I'm sure that you didn't mean to come off sounding so "venomous". But to characterize people needing help as the town trash, whores, and bums IS harsh. There are always going to be people who take advantage of any system--and they aren't always poor. The poor ones are just easier to spot because they tend to stand out more. And considering the fact that you made such a huge effort to prevent yourself from being identified with this group, maybe you should volunteer where you don't have to make so much people contact. Volunteering ideally should help you feel good, not make you hate people more every day, lol. What a sad world to live in where we all just helped people in our own little groups. Remember, we all belong to the human race. That story about Jesus coming to your door--not as a wealthy man dressed in fine clothes, but as a beggar always gets me.

I know exactly what you mean and I work at a gas station. I could go on and on about how stupid people can really be. I see it everyday. I tell my boss it's a good thing people can't read my mind because I would have been shot along time ago. People don't realize that programs like this won't be out there if they keep getting abused. :( My suggestion for this is that they should do it through the county programs and that way the $ will actually go to families that really can use it.

i have been on this board maybe 5 times since i started working, and as soon as i get time to get on a little more, people start throwing fits in my first or second post. no one can say anything on here anymore without someone twisting it around. i am sick of people, on here and in person, giving me crap and not doing anything about it because i don't want to hurt someone's feelings or cause trouble.
i am not judging anyone in this situation, i am calling things exactly as i see them. if you were here you'd see how it is and you'd be agitated too. especially if it was your money being used to fund these people. and yes, it is my money. or was, i do not donate to the church anymore.
to whoever said i shouldn't leave my house: when you start paying my bills, feeding me, and giving me money to spend, i won't leave my house. until then shut up. that remark was fully stupid. you know (i hope) that a person can not stay in the house and never leave to work, shop, seek medical care, etc. i have every right to come on this board and vent just like anyone else and if you don't like what i have to say, stay out of my thread. and if it's that hard to take care of yourself, i feel sorry for you.
litwitch, i am jennifer. nice to meet you. you've not seen who comes in and who hasn't, so who are you to ask me who i am to say they're not worthy when i know what goes on and you don't? i don't think anyone who doesn't help themselves (if they are capable) is worthy of help of any kind.
to those who mentioned the woman and her lawyer, i was thinking the same thing about the woman being able to afford a lawyer and not paying her own gas.
the people who use this program come in about 3 or 4 times a week. they are all on foodstamps. they all spend about $20-$50 on lotto tickets when they come in. they all have 3 or 4 kids tagging along. i don't think i am judging anyone by saying they are bums or whatever when i see it with my own eyes every day. these people don't need help, they need a damn job.
stresseater, your remark with the little faces is uncalled for. i am not going to quit my job just because a bunch of bums come in and abuse a nun who is trying to help people who need it. i am not helping anyone. i work at the place this program goes through. i have no choice but to deal with them when they come in. i am not 'reluctantly helping' anyone, i am doing my job. (insert faces here)
yes we are all people etc, but these people should go to their churches for help, not mine. since i started working where i do and i found about about this program and how it is funded, i do not donate anything to the church anymore. i don't even go. i refuse to fund a program that hands money out so freely time and time again to the same people who are not trying to do a damn thing to help themselves. i work my ass off to earn what i do, and if i donate it i want it to go to someone who needs it, not a baby mama with foodstamps and welfare who won't go to work. and as far as not helping people of another religion, it's not quite about that. over half of these people who come in are the same people who were at a protest outside my church a few years back telling us we were all going to hell - we're so terrible, but they'll take our money. i don't think so. (this was when the priest molestation crap came out.) and as i said before, i believe they should go to their own church or one of their faith to ask for help.

That's how I see it, too. I wonder if Mother Teresa thought about the "trash" wanting her help. I wonder if she asked them all sorts of questions, then passed judgement, THEN offered help. I'd say, NOPE. If you can help just ONE person, then it will have been worth it.
Judgements are best left up to God.

I've gotten help from them also.. back 5 yrs ago when dallas was having surgery every month for months . we had to drive to dallas texas with dallas ( hahaha drive to dallas with dallas ha ha ok i am goofy) anyways since we had to drive out of state and stay there half a month. they gave us gas cards to 7'11. it helped a great GREAT deal. we was able to fill up and get to texas ( cards was not good in texas) but it still helped a great deal as we would fill up our gas tank before we left and right before we would cross texas line we would fill up the rest of the way. use that as much as we could and then just fill up once in texas ( our money) and then on way back put just enough to get to oklahoma line and fill up in oklahoma. Man it saved us a lot of money . were very greatful they was there for us ( PS i am Baptist)
Staying in a hotel in Dallas texas cost a lot so without them helping with Gas I am not sure how we would of been able to get our son the surgery he needed.

I think you need a reality check as to why you are calling people such harsh names, whore skank etc. if you are that angry then just stop participating in the program, we have no control as to who does what. I am a catholic and i devote a lot of my time trying to help people who need help and i have seen my share of abusers but never once did i feel compelled to call anyone such awful names, you learn to be a better person and turn the other cheek at the time and report to administration that you know of a person that is abusing the system, they will warn the person of abuse and tell them they won't be eligible for future incentives. my gosh, no one is bashing you, only giving an opinion like you are doing.seems to me you are doing the bashing.

If you aren't giving (donating) with an open heart then it's better that you don't give at all. If people are taking advantage of programs then that will be on their conscience and it will catch up with them in the end.

They will have to deal with Karma from their own actions.
The church is giving from their heart, trying to help people that they feel are in need. Yes its frustrating when people take advantage of help but you can't let that drag you down. Just know that you are being the best person you can be and that they will eventually have to answer for their actions.

I am just thankful that Jesus doesn't turn his back on those in need. I can't imagine calling people those horrible names, reminds me of that saying about walking a mile in someones shoes...hmmm...and for the OP to act as such and then saying she is catholic, doesn't make her the best witness for the catholic faith. So not fair. I do not have the same beliefs as the catholics, but I do respect their ability to help others in need. Maybe the OP needs to spend time with the helpful Nun she just might learn something from her. Jesus loves a cheerful giver.

So nice to meet you also. Just because I am not right outside the door you so want to slam, does not mean that I have not witnessed such behavior. Trust me, I've witnessed MUCH worse. It is still none of YOUR business whether they met the qualifications. It is the department who processes the applications business. I have too, and I am neither a skank nor a whore. Nor am I catholic. To be perfectly honest, I am stunned at the venom the OP has spewed towards those less fortunate than they are. The same people that the judgements are being passed upon, are the same people Jesus, the person the bibles teaches us to follow, would break bread with. While I would agree that there are those that abuse the system, both public and faith based, but that is between them and God.

 and there is currently more flaming in other posts that are not debates
and the people on jerry are actors? the people in the jail i worked at weren't. there are alot of deadbeat, lowlifes, criminals, users, scammers in the world. like the wendy's finger lady (wow, that sounds weird).........her scamming cost them millions. there should be a harsh penalty for that.
we are human beings, not computers/robots..................emotion will always influence debate.........it's human nature, instrinsic, inherant.

My bad. I though you were. Flaming in general isn't nice, however, just disagreeing with someone is fine. We all have our opinions based on fact, emotion, experience, etc. I think, for instance, that your attempt to feign rolling eyes is stupid. My opinion. Not flaming.
Yes. The people on Jerry are actors. Yes, there are millions of people who behave as such. The finger lady should be charged with several counts. Fraud. Conspiracy to commit fraud. And the woman whose finger it was deserves to be charged as well.
We are human beings. Yes. Some good, some bad. The first thing to remember when you debate someone is to know your subject. Second, know the other argument. Third don't take it personally. Fourth don't respond with emotion. Yes, emotion will always be found in debate. It shouldn't be. And debaters know the difference. When you use emotion in a debate, it means you have lost your advantage. Sort of like selling cars. After the talk is done, but you haven't agreed to buy the car, the first person to speak loses. It works like that. Debate works best when used with fact.

I spent 15 minutes writing a reply then decided that it would look like I was flaming .. even though that wasn't my intention, so I deleted it LOL
Then this caught my eye.

why would i come into this post to complain about flaming in debates? i was obviously referring to this post....hence i'm in it. that's the reason for the rolleyes (which to me means DUH in this particular context). i thought the eyes would be better than saying something to the effect of "there you go flattering yourself again" because i thought it was too personal, but you get personal with the stupid comment above and push your personal opinions about me so that's why i didn't say it then but will say it now. it seems as though you disagree with EVERYTHING i say in a hateful, derogatory manner so why don't you just back off.

Why are you becoming nasty? Didn't you read my paragraph on debate? What you're doing here ISN'T debate. And it shouldn't be. I made a comment you didn't like, so you rolled your eyes. Just like a child. I don't believe I was flattering myself. I also didn't get personal with you. I stated an opinion.... and MARKED it as such. Your perception of what I type is totally off.
I don't disagree with everything you say. And I don't get derogatory unless its given to me first. You went off, here, Njean. You went way off. Round the bend. There is pure hatered in what you have written, and it is completely undeserved. How do you justify such rancor?
Question: Back off WHAT?

Well programs like that around my area that done by Catholic Churches will not even listen to you if you are NOT Catholic, and they ask. The one time I soooo needed help, it was 7 years ago, I called a Catholic Church here in my town to see if they would help me pay for my gas bill and the first question they asked was, "are you Catholic?" and I used to be when I lived with my parents many years ago, but I told them I wasn't practicing and they said that since I wasn't "practicing" that meant I wasn't Catholic and that they would not help me unless I was Catholic and then hung up on me. I was shocked. But I did get hold of the United Way and they helped me, but I was just so shocked that I didn't even call another church.
But I can understand how you would be upset, programs like this are for people who desperately need help, not for those who are too lazy to take care of things theirselves. and as for the lady with a lawyer....omg....

you made a comment i didn't like above? you quoted me to disagree with me and thought i was talking about something else. then added the jerry springer comment to cast doubt into what i was saying. all of THAT was unprovoked.
back off what? in the majority of your responses to my posts (usually through quoting me) you insert words such as ignorant or stupid which is in reference to either something i've said or that i believe in. i believe that you thought that i was referring to you (concerning recent debating posts we've both particiapted in) when i was talking about the flaming around here and it ticked me off because i wasn't. and everytime you do post behind me and quoting me you are disagreeing and doing it harshly..........not to mention the way you talk to others on here.

Njean, I suggest YOU back off. Step back and look what you just wrote here. There is no conspiracy toward you. My debate wasn't even with you, you, and you have every right, went into the debate with both feet. I have never called you stupid. I may have said something was "ignorant." But I suggest you look that up in the dictionary. It doesn't EVEN have negative connotations. Just because I don't agree with you doesn't mean there is a conspiracy toward you. I made the comment about Jerry Springer because its true. Not to impinge upon you. Geez. Everyone knows that.
I have said MANY times that you have every right to believe how you wish. Everyone does. This is America. When I disagree with someone, I state WHY I disagree. You consider that harsh. I consider that my right.
I don't say bad things about people on here. I can say outright that I think they're wrong, and this is why, but I don't call people names as a rule.
I think you need help.

I have only been in an "altercation" with one person on these boards, Njean, and it wasn't with you. I have never called you names. Definiation of ignorant: lacking knowledge or comprehension of the thing specified. That isn't a name, its a state. Telling you you are ignorant of something is not an insult. It just means you don't know. Nothing bad about that. And I have never called you stupid. I may have said you did or said a stupid thing, but that is FAR from CALLING you stupid. Its your perception. I will agree that "stupid" is an ugly word, and will strive not to use it in the future.
I love talking to people who disagree with me. What a boring world it would be if we all agreed on everything. Its just that most people don't take disagreements personal.
I too, hope you find a way to ignore me. Oh, I know, why don't you, when you see my name, skip that post? Works for me.

Wow guys chill out, she vented! I don't agree with everything everyone says, we all have an opinion. In my opinion she has the right to complain about these people. Is she saying "Geez the women on this board are skanks?" or anything similar? There are deadbeats thats for sure, it seems shes frustrated because this nun is trying to help people and they're taking advantage while other people are being left out who REALLY need it. I just don't see why people have to be flamed so much. Its really getting old on the boards. There are so many people in the world that pretend they are these fantastic christians, yet they make horrible comments to other people. You don't have to come in here and sympathize, but you don't have to be rude either. I don't even post many threads anymore because anything you say can and WILL offend SOMEONE on here. I like the color purple, will I be flamed by the blue lovers now? :) Anyways I truly hope you all have a good day.
I agree a bit with you but also disagree. She didn't say the women on this board are skanks, etc...but it could be my sister, or someone elses sister, she is definatly someones daughter, no matter what this woman was/is she is still a human and to vent is healthy but to slam is unacceptable. You can vent all you need to but really is slamming this woman really worth your reputation, dignity, self respect? I would say no, but then again, I wasn't the OP.
Just for the record, I am a fantastic Christian!!! I love the Lord Jesus Christ with all my heart. He is perfect, I am not.

Damn OP, I hope you won't be manning the Pearly Gates anytime soon!
I'm not Catholic, don't ever hope to be. But I know plenty who are. They didn't just fall off the turnip truck and know that there are plenty of folks that will bleed any organizaton for all they can get. They also know that there are plenty of honest folk who desperately need their services. According to my MIL( a devout Catholic), If they (the RCC) consider even one of their recipients a "saved soul", it is money well spent. In a perfect world we could weed out those truly in need from those who'd bleed anyone dry for their own gain. Until OP has a plan that can differentiate between the two groups, I suggest she keep her hateful generalizations to herself.

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Just because you don't agree with how those people live and what they do gives you no right to put them down.
Would you like it if someone who is better off financially, job wise ect.to judge you and put you down because of the way you live or the job you do? I doubt it.

all I can say is if these people are abusing the help from the church let them know that these people are coming in and buying lottery tickets with their money and whatever else.in most states if you can afford lottery tickets while on assistance then you arent considered needy.because any thing they win would be considered income in some states and theyd have to report it.or pay back the state what the state provided them.to me thats considered fraud becuase they are using funds that someone else could really use.like i said if they are abusing it then report what they are doing by spending their funds on lottery tickets and etc.especially when they seem to be repeat abusers IMO.I can see if they really needed it obviously they dont if they can buy lottery tickets thats my opinion.

I think people got angry because of the name calling.
I don't like people who take advantage of good things either. And there is plenty that do. People that take advantage of different programs, using them when they really don't need them take away from people who actually need what the programs give out. There was one person that replied here that used some kind of program like that and they actually needed it. Now what if the abusers took so much that there was nowhere for that person to turn? That would have been a real shame.

To the OP who probably isnt reading this, but oh well, here it comes anyway...
I totally agree with you and it ticks me off too to see people taking advantage of charity and blatantly throwing it in your face at your work everyday. (I'm understanding you work at a gas station of sorts and these people come in to use their gas vouchers?) I would probably look down on those people too, not for being "bums, whores, etc" as you say, but for stealing donated funds from others who could really use it.
The way I would handled the situation would be to talk with the church. Let them know you see people spending the "money" on crap like lottery tickets and such. Maybe work with the church and help them monitor how the funds are spent.
I just cant believe as a devout follower that you'd quit your faith...That's insane!
I would work hard to change things. People in a church are family and I wouldnt stand for my family being taken advantage of, I'd do something to change things. Not abandon them...
There you have it folks, my 2 cents.

I totally understand your anger at people like this, but you need to understand that not everyone who uses charity is a freeloader. Some people GENUINELY need the assistance. (my family for example) so for you to call everyone who uses the charities freeloading skanks and whatever else.. is TOTALLY offensive to me. I REALLY think you need to check yourself there....
