This is pretty close to my town. It's just sick to think someone could do this to his own mother. Boy I really believe Wisconsin has some real weirdos.
Stand-off ends, body found in freezer

TOWN OF CAMPBELL, Wis. — The man who held police at bay for 15 hours after a shooting on French Island surrendered this morning, but earlier told authorities he had his mother's body in a freezer at the home.
The body of a woman was found in a basement chest freezer after Philip Schuth, 52, came out of the home at 7:25 a.m., but La Crosse County Sheriff Mike Weissenberger said they could not confirm it was the man's mother, though added they did "have an idea who she is."
La Crosse County land records listed the property at 1330 Bainbridge St. as owned by Edith M. Schuth.
In a press conference this morning at Campbell Town Hall, Weissenberger said the man had revealed that "his mother's body was in a freezer in the basement" while he was negotiating with authorities after the shooting Friday afternoon.
Negotiations with Schuth began about 5:30 p.m. Friday after he reportedly struck a child and took his bicycle, then shot the boy's father when confronted by the parents. He then took refuge at 1330 Bainbridge St.
Negotiators spent 50 minutes of each hour on the phone with the suspect before the situation ended peacefully, Weissenberger said.
Police picked through the ice in the freezer just enough to confirm a body was inside before leaving the scene for the Wisconsin State Crime Lab from Madison to further investigate, Weissenberger said. A crime lab truck arrived at the home this afternoon.
It may be a week before the identity of the body is confirmed, Weissenberger said.
Weissenberger said he was pleased that officers were able to get the man into custody without injury, but now the focus would turn to determining the cause of death of the person in the freezer.
Edith Schuth last appears in the 2001 La Crosse City Directory along with Philip Schuth at 1330 Bainbridge St. She was listed as retired. The 2002 through 2004 La Crosse City Directories only list Philip Schuth at the address.
The chain of events that led to the body being discovered started when 10-year-old Josh Russell told his parents about 4 p.m. Friday that Philip Schuth had struck him in the right ear and taken his bicycle.
Randy Russell Jr., 32, said he and wife Melissa and their son drove over to Schuth's house, where they found Schuth in the yard.
"I said, 'Sir, did you hit my son?'" Randy Russell said early this afternoon. "He said, ‘Yes, I did,' and he pulled a gun out of his pocket and started shooting."
Randy Russell was hit in the right shoulder and arm, with another bullet grazing his right cheek. Melissa Russell's leg was grazed as well.
Russell said his son and the friend were playing in Schuth's yard because they thought it was an abandoned property. He disputed accounts of a fight or altercation between Schuth and his son.
Russell was treated at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center and released between 7 and 7:30 p.m. Friday. His son was not injured.
Schuth is in custody, Weissenberger said, until investigators can confer with the La Crosse County district attorney on charges.
Bainbridge Street will remain closed for the next 24 to 48 hours, he said.
Those at the scene included the Town of Campbell Police Department, La Crosse County Sheriff's Department, Onalaska Police Department, La Crosse Police Department and Vernon County Sheriff's Department.
