I have a torn Rotator Cuff!!!!! (LONG)

I have been having quite a bit of pain in my shoulder since the end of November, blamed it on my fibro. By Christmas my neck was killing me too, so the beginning of Jan. I went to see my doc. He thought because of the 2 bulging disks in my neck a nerve might be pinched so he sent me to physical therapy. Went to therapy for 4 weeks and the neck got better but the shoulder didn't. Therapist gave me some exercises to do at home that might help shoulder but they did not work. Went back to doctor March 17th (yeah, I know I put it off too long :o ) Doc. said we need to do MRI to see what is wrong with shoulder, I was still blaming fibro, but in my heart I knew it had to be something else, none of my fibro. attacks ever lasted that long before. Had MRI on March 22nd and then had to wait through Easter for results. Doc called last week and said "you're not going to believe this but, you have a torn rotator cuff and all the cartlidge around it is torn too". I asked how the heck that happened since I do so little cuz of my back and fibro. He said probably one of the times I fell (I fall LOTS due to nerve damage in my left leg, just to darn vain to get a cane, guess I have too now! :rolleyes: ) I landed on my arm just right and it injured the rotator cuff, then I let it go for so long it only got worse. UGH! He referred me to an orthopedic surgeon, but I can't get in to see him until April 21st. I asked my doc about physical therapy to fix it but he said "I don't think so, as bad as it is I think that will only make it worse, I think you will probably need surgery, but I am not a surgeon so don't take my word for it, just go see the other doc and DO AS HE TELLS YOU!" LOL! My doc knows me so well he kinda stressed that last part! I am just totally bummed about this. I have had 4 back surgeries and I so do not want to go under the knife again for anything! Also everything I have read and heard about rotator cuff surgery says a 6 month recoup time! :eek: I don't want to deal with that, I have too much else to do. My DD is scheduled for MINOR surgery on her foot May 13th and she needs someone to go with her, May 20th we are supposed to be going to Springdale Arkansas for our Grandsons first birthday and to welcome our son home from Africa (he's in the Marines, been gone since Oct.), have a new grandbaby due June 15th and you know I will just HAVE to be able to hold her and spoil her lots! LOL! ;) See I am just too busy to deal with this....GRRRRRRRR!

Sorry this was so long, just need to gripe about things for a minute. If you made it this far thanks for reading. Can everyone please say a prayer that I WON'T have to have surgery, maybe just therapy. THANKS!

The recovery period for rotator cuff surgery, including
the recovery time, physical therapy.....I wouldn't say 6 months.

Gonna be some discomfort....but you allready have that.

Need to get it done so you can have a great summer, dear.

I pray that you do not need surgery. I have known a few people thathave had that surgery and I was thinking it was 6 weeks that they couldn't move their entire arm for that long.(I could be wrong.) Either way, I pray you get better. HUGS!!!

My dad just had this done a few months ago. He said as soon as he had it done he felt alot better then he did before hand. He couldn't use the arm at all for 4 weeks and then he started therapy at 6 weeks. He slowly regained use of his arm a little at a time. He feels 100% better and is really glad he had it done. The healing time is somewhat long but the end result is definitely worth it. Atleast thats the way he feels! Good Luck and lots of (((Hugs))).

my nephew had TRC and scapular winging so bad it was to the point that the ortho dr was calling other drs in to see it, he had 6 weeks pt 3x a week and he is fine now
