I already took him to the vet once, he knocked him out and cleaned his ears out somewhat and I had to fight him to put drops in and give him antibiotics for two weeks. He has them again, his ears are bright red, he's scratching and he won't let me near those sensitive ears. How the heck do you get rid of ear mites? He's a 110 lb german shephard, and I am a 95 lb girl, he loves me and trusts me but not when it comes to those ears, what can I do?

When we first got our cat she had ear mites bad and the vet gave us Tresaderm drops for her. They couldn't give me an appointment right away so I bought some drops at the pet store but they didn't do anything at all. Good luck!

Read through this there is a shot that can be given for this according to what I read.
All I know is the cleaning there ears and putting drops in. I have a cat and when I got him his ears were really bad with mites. I took me a while to get rid of them. I had to go through a couple of bottles of medicine from the vet to clear them up. Good luck.

i did the shots, I did the antibiotics, he's just too smart and stubborn. I really hate to put him down and get that dopey shot again, but I think I have no choice. Stupid bugs, why are they picking on my smart dog?

I got this from a local pet rescue group in my e-mail yesterday. The lady who posted it has her own rescue sanctuary http://www.wildheartranch.org/ she is amazing.
Home remedy for ear mites:
Use 8oz of alcohol and 8oz of white vinegar.
Mix the ingredients together in a bottle of your choice, and shake it
well. Keep it out of the reach of children. Be sure to shake it before
each use.
Clean the ears with this solution twice a day for the first one or two
weeks, depending on the severity of the ear infection. Then clean the ears
once a day for the next one or two weeks, and once or twice a week
thereafter. Use a cotton ball and clean the outside of the ear - letting
only a few drops go into the ear.

butterfli, you are so sweet to post, but yes, my vet told me about
apple cider vingegar and I tried that. The problem is that if I even look at those pointy shephard ears he freaks out. I think they hurt him really bad and he doens't want them touched. If he trusts anyone, he trusts me, and he won't let me near those ears. I think I have no choice but to take the poor boy back to the vet and have him put down to clean them again. I feel really rotten about the whole situation.

I'm going , I can't stand it.I'm going to go try the vinegar. He's sitting here scratching and is just miserable. I have absolutely no idea how I am going to get it in his ears, but I'll give it a try. Will let you all know how it works out.

vinegar or alcohol will burn the crap outa him . try putting vinegar or alcohol on a cut or scratch , it hurts you so it hurts him too.
use mineral oil - it will sooth plus smother the mites

My best friend has a big Doberman and she went through the same thing with him. The poor dog would actually lay down and whimper from the pain of his ears. After three different vets, they found out it wasn't mites at all. The poor guy has allergies! He takes allergy medicine all the time and no more ear problems!
