My Daughter brought this home from Sunday School yesterday and I thought it was very interesting.

If Jesus Came to Your House

If Jesus cam to your house to spend a day or two.
If He came without warning I wonder what you'd do.
It might be interesting to know just what you'd feel,
If Jesus came in person to spend some time with you.

Yes, If Jesus came to your house to spend a day or two,
If He came unexpected, just dropped in on you,
Oh, I know you'd give your nicest room to such an honored Guest,
And the food you'd serve to Him would be the very best.

And you would keep assuring Him, you were glad to have Him there,
That serving Him in your home was joy beyond compare.
But when you saw Him coming, would you meet Him at the door,
With arms outstretched in welcome to your heavenly visitor?

Or would you have to change your clothes before you let Him in,
Or hide some magazines and put the Bible where they'd been?
Would you turn off the radio and hope He hadn't heard?
And wish you hadn't uttered that last, loud, hasty word?

Would you hide your worldly music and put some hymn books out?
Could you let Jesus walk right in or would you rush about?
And, I wonder, if the Savior spent a day or two with you,
Would you go right on doing the things you always do?

Would you go right on saying the things you always say?
Would life continue for you as it does from day to day?
Would your family conversation keep up its usual pace?
And would you find it hard each meal to say a table grace?

Would you sing the songs you always sing and read the books you read?
Would you let Him know the things on which your mind and spirit feeds?
Woul you take Jesus with you everywhere you'd plan to go,
Or would you change your plans for just a day or so?

Would you be glad to have Him stay forever, on and on,
Or would you sigh with great relief when He at last was gone?
It might be interesting to know the things that you would do,
If Jesus came in person to spend some time with you.
If Jesus came to your house, I wonder what you'd do.

This is an old Porter Wagoner song (have the cd) that left an impression on me when I heard it as a kid (about 40 years ago). If you think the poem is good, you should hear him sing it. It really makes you think. I remember, clear as day, my first time hearing the song. It will give you chills to listen to it.

But...to answer the question (what would I do?), I might be a little embarrassed, or even ashamed, but He would be a much honored guest in my home. I know He knows what I'm doing so there would be no point in hiding things. I would probably beg His forgiveness and ask Him to guide me.

Thanks for the post. :)

Wow...that was awesome! I hope you don't mind, but I shared it with everyone on a Christian message board... :)

We also have this song and it is great. It will make You really think. I love this this is a favorite of mine. There is also another great one called Twas the night before Jesus came. We used it to make our christmas play from and it gives me goosebumps.
