I worked the Ice Princess premiere yesterday at the El Capitan Theater in Hollywood. It was a lot a work...but a total blast.

First...it looks like a really cute fun movie for girls.

I got to escort Kimberly J. Brown down the red carpet. She is an up and coming actress with lots of credits (she is currently in "Be Cool" with John Travolta, but was also Steve Martin's daughter in "Bringing down the House").

The first part of the red carpet involves the paparazzi section where there is about 30 feet packed with photographers. Many of them bring their own step stools so they can be above the people in front of them.

In that section...Kimberly had to pose and just look in various directions at the cameras. Everyone was screaming her name "Kimberly...Kimberly..."

It was overwhelming for me...and I wasn't the one the yelling was directed at!!!

Then, the next part of the red carpet is composed of interviewers and cameramen from the various shows and publications. Entertainment Tonight, Access Hollywood, and The Insider are always at the front of that part of the red carpet.

Kimberly had her publicist with her as well as her mother (who is her agent). Her mom was a beautiful woman who was really down to earth. She and I spent the entire time talking and laughing. Plus...she kept thanking me for helping them out.

People I got to see really close up:

Michelle Trachenberg (star of Ice Princess)
Joan Cusak
Janine Turner
Jody Foster
Gil Bellows (he doesn't look that good in person...)

PLUS...

Dorothy Hamill
Scott Hamilton
Brian Boitano
Tai Babilonia
Randy Gardner
Linda Fratianne

plus a who bunch of people on the red carpet that I didn't recognize.

The after party was really cool. They set up this huge tent behind the theater where there is a temporary skating rink, plus lots of activities for little girls from getting manicures to putting on ball gowns and tiaras, plus photo ops with all the Disney princesses. (This tent will actually be up for the entire run of this movie at the El Capitan Theater. So...those who go see the movie at this theater can also pay an addition fee to get to do these other activities as well.)

The Ice Princess premiere took place in the afternoon and there was a second premiere taking place directly across the street at the Chinese Theater. It was "Guess Who" with Ashton Kuscher and Bernie Mac.

I didn't stick around to watch the red carpet for that one. By the time I left, I was exhausted and just wanted to get home and put my feet up.

What I do for money is work for Disney as a Financial Analyst in the Corporate Employee Benefits department. That's my job. I crunch numbers all day and it is rather boring.

However...as a result of some other connections...I hooked up with the Special Events division of the company. They have a list of about 200 plus people who regularly volunteer to work these premieres.

We have to be salaried employees as we don't get paid for the time.

Once I volunteered for one event, I was on the "list" and regularly get e-mails about what premieres are up-coming and whether or not I am willing to volunteer. I can always pass if the timing isn't convenient or if I'm just too tired to put in the extra hours.

But premieres are always fun and we get a free screening at a later date, plus a copy of the premiere "photo" of the cast and key crew as well as some chotschke souvenier as a "thank you". In addition, we are always fed a catered lunch or dinner.

I've done four premieres in about 6 months (2 in the last two weeks) and have passed on about as many.

I knew you worked at Disney, but wasn't sure of the connection to the premiers... thanks for letting me be nosey :D

Well...Ice Princess is a Disney movie. I only work premieres of movies that are distributed by Disney.
