We recently bought a 60 inch LCD tv. At the store last night I couldn't figure out which format of DVD to buy. Wide Screen or Full screen. Or does it matter???

It doesn't matte the movie will allow you to chose most times. Its all preference.

I always pick widescreen because it lets you see more of the movie to the right and left sides of the screen

I prefer fullscreen my husband prefers widescreen. So most DVDs we buy are widescreen.
The difference in the 2 are well one shows the movie on the whole screen. Widescreen you have the black strip at the top of the screen and bottom of the screen but widescreen shows more of the scene than fullscreen.
The black bars at the top and bottom bug me.

we usually buy the full screen, the black lines at the top and bottom bother me too.

I always get widescreen unless it isn't available. But some movies give you the choice.

i am a widescreen fan.. this is what you see in the movie theater... you get to see several more inches of action but you have a black strip at the top and bottom...

full screen is what they do to a widescreen movie to fit into the TV format.
they crop the sides and therefore it fits in a square screen. you loose action that is taking place on the sides. althought most people dont notice...

you do see more on the sides with widescreen like: xxxxx vs. xxx see the same top and bottom but there are bars on top so it seems less to those not used to viewing widescreen
