:D I'm very excited!!! (This will be a little long...but I have to tell someone or I will just burst.)
As most of you know, I work for Disney. Now, Disney has lots of employee activities and services which are all handled by part of Human Resources called The Disney University. There is also a group of volunteer employees who are the conduit of information from the University back to the various divisions and locations. This was called the Advisory Board. Those who serve on the board work all the events and put in a lot of unpaid extra hours. But it is trememdous fun and there are definitely perks involved.
Well...I served on the board for 6 years. Each year, I needed to reapply to the board. Last year, my V.P. got a bee up her butt and decided that one could only serve on the board for one year so that other employees would get the opportunity to do this.
I don't have a problem with this...but no one else has applied from our area in all the time I served! Plus, there are many areas within the company which get no one applying. So it is possible to be on the board...but to be assigned to a different area. Instead of representing your particular work area, you would represent an area which would otherwise have no representation.
But...the VP wouldn't even allow me to do that, so I had to step down. (It broke my heart because I loved doing this. ) What was annoying in particular is that I am an exemplary employee. My work is always done so it wasn't as if this was taking from my regular job. Also...the board wasn't run by my VP and the people there really resented her sticking her nose in and directing how they would choose their members.
Well...this year, the University has revamped the board. There is one group which will function exactly as the board did in the past. There is a second group, however, which is now designated as the Employee Activities Planning Committee. This group (of 12 people) will work with the University staff to plan and organize the many employee activities. They will also be members of the Advisory Board. To qualify for this new committee, you needed to have proved yourself as a prior board member.
Well, since members of the new planning committee couldn't be new, I asked my VP if I could apply and SHE SAID YES!!!
Not only that...I got selected!!!
What's great is that "I'm Back" on the board...and I was able to do it with the VP's approval.
