...I need a vacation from this place!!!

It's not everyday you stand in your front yard and see someone being extracted from their car. I think I saw at least 4 ambulances drive by. An employee from a neighboring business just came by and told me the guy was speeding at 90 mph and running from police when he ran into another car at the intersection.

Crazy Crazy!! A helicopter just landed in front of my house!! OMG!!

This is crazy to read because I keep running outside. I thought the helicopter was taking off, so I ran out there and all this debris was flying, so I backed up against the house and I could still see the helicopter and it wasn't moving. When the debris stopped flying, I ran to the front and saw ANOTHER helicopter. I got a picture of the first (after frantically looking for fresh batteries) and just took one of the second before it took off.

Our friend just called asking me what happened. His wife is stuck down the street. I just talked to her. The accident happened at the intersection where they turn to get to their apartment, and it looks like it won't be opening up soon. I told her she could park her car here, and hop the fence to get to her place. In a minute, I'm going to their place to watch the news (because I have no tv reception). OMG I think I'm going to be sick, too much craziness...:eek:

The first helicopter...(was taken from the front door)

HEEEEYYY....I rode on that!!! Yeah, I was life flighted from University Hospital in Provo/Orem to the U of U in it. Kinda weird seeing pictures of it since I left the hospital in 10/98 and haven't been to SLC in 6 years. Keep us updated on what happened.

I haven't seen the news yet. When my friend realized it could be awhile before his wife could get home and he would be stuck with the kids (an ongoing vent of mine), he packed them up, and walked down to where she was stuck.

But I heard on the radio that police had called off the chase because it was getting too dangerous. Makes sense because I didn't hear any sirens until they were responding to the accident. I had to go down there to find Nowee. His bus comes across that intersection, and with the streets closed off, I didn't know where he'd be. THe driver had to let all the kids off down the street a bit, and when we found out, and the officer told us we could go across the street, we went to find our kids. Another mom had escorted him to the corner where I met up with him. We were close to the wreckage, and according to the radio, the guy is in critical condition. From the looks of the car, I don't know how he had survived. The suspect was driving a little car, and he hit a pickup that went into a prisoner detail van behind it (the county jail is close to here). I saw the bed of the pickup upside down and across the street. I couldn't see the rest of it.

They just opened the street back up. I'm anxious to know why they were chasing him.

If you watch our local channel 2 news, and you see a woman with a pink shirt walking around in a driveway with a toddler in a white shirt following, that's me and Lena, LOL. Their helicopter was circling around for a long time, and I was out there picking up all the trash blown around by the other helicopters. Although I think they were probably doing a close up on the scene and I'm probably not even close. LOL, I told DH to turn on that channel so he could maybe see Lena and me.

There was a news crew out there, but I don't know what station. The girl looked like she might be from channel 4, but I'm not sure.

That is just crazy, This is the reason I am kinda scared to go anywhere. You never know if someone is speeding or not paying attention. People that do that kind of stuff {like speed away from the police like this guy** dont think that they could hit another car that may be filled with kids or it someone crossing a street. People need to really think about their actions before they do things like this.

I hope the people he hit are ok.

They survive because of the AWESOME kick butt doctors at Univ. of Utah hospital. Some of the BEST surgeons in the US are there. How do I know?? I survived a TRIPLE rollover in a Geo Metro because of them!! And yes, I rolled the car due to overcorrecting from being a "designated driver" to a drunken idiot. My scars are now my badges of Survival. How horrible for the innocent ones involved. I was in their shoes 5 1/2 years ago.

Sad thing is the innocent people are the ones that get hurt the worst. Or worse yet the ones that dont make it. Just like the drunk that hits someone and makes it through it because they were relaxed from the alcohol and the person they hit is in critical condition.

I didn't realize the rest of the truck was right there. But then, I was too focused on trying to locate Nowee when I was down there. Wow, it came close to those apartments. I wish I could give that guy a piece of my mind for being so selfish and causing so much destruction, but I doubt the jerk would even care.

I'm glad your helicopter ride ended up good, Annie. :)
