I am making a chicken and gravy casserole. I just decided I want to add rice to it. My question is should I cook the rice on the stove before adding it to the baking dish or will it cook as it bakes?? Need advice on this as soon as possible. Thanks in advance.

I did a search for chicken rice casserole and this is what I found. I don't know if this helps. They all said to mix the rice in uncooked.

PREPARATION:

Combine everything except chicken, mixing well; put into casserole. Arrange chicken on top. Bake at 350° for 1 hour, covered, then uncover and bake 30 minutes more, stirring once. Variation: Use 3 cups water and brown the chicken first. Also, you can bake covered at 325 for 1 1/2 hours

We have a really neat rice cooker and make the rice that way. Then we cook chicken or whatever meat with spices and serve it over the cooked rice.

Thanks I ended up frying the chicken breasts before making it a casserole. So the rice cooked pretty quick in the oven with the rest of the ingriedients.
