Long story short, I purcahsed my lil bros birthday present on Amazon GC I had recieved in a trade, I did so WAY ahead of them so that it would arrive BEFORE His actually birthday. Seller sent item media mail, states in auction that she would ship using usps standered, I am more then upset because it is NOT going to get here before next friday and that was the only thing I got him :(

Contact Amazon for a shipping cost refund. Amazon frowns BIG TIME on sellers doing exactly that. Make sure you send them a copy of the e-mail where she said she was sending it media. If they don't get back with you quick enough, call them. I think the number is still at the top of the vent whine forum.

I have dealt with a few ebay sellers who did the same thing. It made me so mad. It stated in their auction that the item would be shipped first class and then they ended up sending it media mail. Hopefully you will be able to get some of your money back.

This is the extent of my conversation with the seller via email, personal information is edited out for obvious reasons

I emailed seller the first day I purchased this item:

-------------- Original message --------------

Dear Seller,

I wanted to make sure that this item is going to be shipped ASAP please, this is a birthday gift, is it going to be possible for you to ship the 7th or earlier? Thanks so much!

XXXXXX

Keep in mind this was sent to the seller the 1st of Feb

Her response

[email protected] wrote: I shipped the item early this morning (Saturday). Have a great weekend!

This email was recieved from her on Saturday

-------------- Original message --------------

XXXX thanks so much ! This is my first experience with using amazon, I really appreciate you getting back to me.

My response, this is when I found out she was using media mail

Your welcome. Media mail is a little slow sometimes. I hope the gift is perfect for your birthday gift. Enjoy!

XXXXX,

I am feeling a little misled here, in your auction it said the shipping was Shipping Speed:
Standard Shipping I expected it to be mailed USPS first class mail. This is for a birthday gift on the 11th of this month, I reviewed everything and it did not say that it was going to be shipped media mail, for $3.49 it should have been shipped the regular way

Her bogus response

Standard shipping is media mail. First class is first class or priority mail. Usually it takes about 5 days. If it does not arrive let me know, but that is plenty of time, it should be there in time.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
That is so bogus, I guess you can say that I am a bit upset, standered IS first class, I have been buying and selling on THIS site and on ebay, media mail is media mail NOT standered, she charged me $4 for something that cost $1 and is twice as slow

Actually.... (don't kill the messenger!) With Standard shipping, how it is shipped (media, priority etc) is at the sellers discression. You get 2 choices: Standard & Expedited. With Standard shipping items are delivered within 4 to 14 days. Expedited shipping, a seller only has 3 to 6 days to get it out (or sooner depending on the sellers settings) So unless the seller specified on his/her memo how it was shipped, he/she can ship it any way they want. When someone puts something up for sale on amazon, they only have those two choices and amazon does not specify what method has to be used to ship just as long as it reaches the seller within the alloted time.

I wasn't even thinking about it when I read your first post, but then when you put the e-mails up, it clicked with me.

I am sorry that its taking so long for you :( As much as I know you wanted the item to be on time for your brothers b-day, I am sure that he will understand.

I also wanted to add that the sellers don't set the shipping costs... amazon does that.

What was the item if you don't mind me asking? She could get in trouble for shipping something media mail if it's not a book cd or an actual media type item.

This is my FIRST and last experience with Amazon, I have never heard of such things!

I am sorry :( I know its frusterating, especially when the costs and expectations are not clear. I would still follow up with the seller and hopefully it will get to you before the birthday. I know media mail can be slow, but there have been many times that I have received things within 4 or 5 days... hopefully you will too! Good luck!

Thank you all for your kind words I guess it is my fault because of my ignornace of Amazons terms and conditions, a friend of mine buys/sells on amazon and has never had this problem, I asked her and she confirmed what the op said, my lil bro doesnt know yet I am just going to keep my fingers crossed that it comes in time

I meant to update everyone, and YES I got it. This is a lesson learned I would rather not use Amazon because I would like to have some say about how my item is shipped, I emaile dnad apologized to the seller for my ignorance and the way that items are shipped on amazon and how it is the sellers choice. Thanks so much everyone!

PS My brother is having a VERY happy birthday
