I went into Sears today, hoping to find some decent clearance. Yeah rite There was this cute little strawberry shortake pajame set. nothing fancy just shirt and pants. It was on the 50-75% off rack. So I looked at the tag and almost fell over it was $40.00 marked down to $19.99. Come on now. So I asked the clerk about the tag and she said it was correct. How can that be, just because strawberry shortcake? The stuff not on sale was marked that high. Similar items were 12.99 regular price, when I say similar I mean other strawberry character pajams (same style).
Thanks for listening (reading) my gripe.

it probably wasn't just the fact that it had SS on it. it probably had more to do with the brand and the quality. sears doesn't sell that cheap stuff you can get at walmart. i only go to sears when they have a sale on their clearence items, take an additional 50% off clearence sale. i did that at the bon and made a killing. i got really cute clothes for just a few dollars each.

Their clearance is sometimes a joke. I noticed after Christmas they had a lot of stuff on clearance 50% off, but a lot of the same items were already on sale for 50% off(they just added a clearance sign). People were everywhere in there shopping, buying things like crazy, I guess thinking they were getting a deal.

Not trying to hijack your post, but I have a Sears gripe to add...
A few years ago we put an addition on our house for my mother to move in to. My mom wanted to buy the carpeting, and had a % discount offer if she used her Sears card. We knew it was too early for the carpeting (by a year) and confirmed that she could prepay for the carpet, and schedule the date later. They assured us it would be no problem. Against my better judgement, she paid for the carpet.
We were ready for the carpet about 9 months later. (She called them about once a month and updated them during this time) We call the contractor working for Sears to schedule the installation. Guess what? "We have no record of that." So my mother gets copies of her credit card statements, and mails them in many times. No, no record of that.
After months of this, I call the corporate offices, and get an area manager on the phone. After telling him the long story, he gives me the usual "I will look into it" speech. I told him that my next phone call was to Contact 8 (consumer protection news show) to explain how Sears took $2800 from a 67 year old woman. Her card was credited that afternoon.
I have several friends who are independent contractors working through Sears. Sears bids their jobs low, and then takes 15% off the top. I won't give them my business again.

Of course they mark things up before they clearance it. My last retail job, sometimes we would make a mistake marking the clearance, and there would be a $9.99 item marked to $12 and people would buy it! If we noticed it we would correct the mistake of course, but most companies rely on people seeing that red ticket or % off sign and have them go nuts! Its crappy practices. You definitely need to keep up with prices to even try to shop clearance at Sears!

I HATE SEARS !!!!! I have a Maytag Neptune washer that was bought through them & let me tell you , the service dept is a joke there. After close to $2500, yes that much, in repairs, they still would not replace the washer. I was told that they have the discression to keep replacing parts until they deem it unfixable. Maytag finally stepped in & replaced the washer saying that they could not believe that Sears would put me through this.
I will never buy another appliance or anything from them again.

Sears is now K-mart, it is going to heck in a handbasket, I would not buy ANYTHING from them because Kmart is notorius for bad customer service and awful return policy, don t get me started with the law away policy of theirs!

One time I went to Sears and bought this shirt for $19.99. The next day I found out they were having this big sale so I went there only to find that the same shirt I bought the day before was saleing for $49.99. Supposedly, it was "50% off clearence" ($49.99 was the "marked down price") and people were going nuts over it.

The last time I went to Sears, I thought the quality had gone downhill. Now maybe that's just my Sears. But I haven't been back there since.

Hi, my name is Lisa and I'm a clearance-a-holic!
I haven't been to Sears in ages because of various repair and customer service issues, but I will hit every single clearance section in Macy's! I try to hit only the 50-75% racks, and I have been known to whip out my pocket calculator to see if it's really a good deal, or a REALLY good deal...but the Macy's where I shop has price-check scanners all over the store, so if you don't want to do the math in your head and don't have a calculator you can scan the upc tag and see the price.
Sorry to hijack the thread...

i only go there usually for the black fridays sale. then i use the coupons in addition to the sale prices. i got a couple pairs of LEI jeans for $15 each, and a wool coat for $30 that was normally $120. i think i did pretty good.

I just wanted to say that Sears is not Kmart. Sears and Kmart did merge but they are still seperate stores. Sears is going to carry some of the cheaper brands that Kmart carries and Kmart is going to carry some of the more expensive brand that Sears sells.

well kmart sucks and i won't shop there
they are awful. I had bought a brand new DVD player at Sears and it wouldnt work after 1 week. You know they wouldnt let me return it, it had to go in the shop, they wouldnt authorize a new one. Last time I bought that kinda item there. When it was in the shop I thought If I wanted to have no DVD player I wouldnt have boughten one. I also hate when they say its clearance and it aint cheap. I dont think Sears clothes quality is all that great either

I also have a neptune washer i bought from them, but it wasnt sears' fault for the problems. Didnt you get the class action law suit brought against Maytag for all of the problems the neptune was having??? We were having problems about a month after we bought it, and my husband "rigged" it so it would work, and eventually we had it fixed by a repairman and Maytag paid every penny. If you still have kept all your receipts from all of the repairs, Maytag will REIMBURSE EVERY PENNY OF IT!! I have an 800# about this if you need it! :)

dh would rather have Craftsman anything before anything else. We musta been there at the right time cuz he had gotten a deal on a metric ratchet set or something and it was over a 60piece thing for only $10. The top of the case was broke off, that's why it was cheap. Dh already had something similar for a case, so it was no big deal. Regular $65 batch of Craftsman tools for $10. That's about the best deal we ever got from there.

Okay I've been reading all this about sears and I have to put in my 2cents.I started working for sears in 88 and they were great. We took back things that didn"t work and replaced them no problem. I loved my job and was very happy until my store closed and I was moved to another one. I requested the one by my house but got the one that was 20 miles away.Nothing was the same. The manager didn't want to replace stuff. It was always send it to repair.I hated the way they treated the employees also. No respect at all. We had meetings and were pressured to sell extras. The head boss was the worse so I ask for a transferr. Took me two years to get outta there. I got the store by my house and was happy there until I got a new manager and he was a jerk.Always yelling and threating my job until I finnally filed a suit against him. Well guess who they sent to investagate. Yep the one that was head boss at the other store. It was a no win for me so I quit.Sears does not treat their employees very nice and they don't care. They don't care about their customers either!!!!
