Ok I know I shouldn't have gone shopping today (saturday before christmas) but...had to see if I could pick up my wife's present...And wanting to give my Wife a break without the kids...

I spent half an hour talking to my son (10) and dot (13) as we walked up to Best Buy to get Lord of the Rings-Return of the King 4 disk set...telling them that the stores were gonna be "Crazy Busy" and to stay close...

On to Sears to look for my Wife's gift...didn't like the choices...on to walk through the mall...shoulder to shoulder people...stop at Spencer's...Too Adult...Oops....dash outta there...onto the atm to get cash for drinks and snack...line of a billion people...dash downstairs to the other atm...not working...tell the kids that I'll stop on the way home in about 30 minutes after stopping in JC Penney...to look for the "gift"...again shoulder to shoulder people...

There less than 5 minutes don't see what I'm looking for then on the other side of the rings section I see the watches wife wants so badly...Dot stands in front of me at a watch case and I politely ask her to move over..."snap" ALL OF A SUDDEN I'M THE WORST PARENT IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!!! I then say to her to quit being mouthy or we were done shopping and leaving for home...

MAJOR MELTDOWN-Tears and scolding-from her to me--make a MAJOR SCENE, Billion people looking at us like we were nuts as I indicate that we leave and do so right then...I'm quiet as we bustle through the throng of people as my Dot cries and caries on...and son follows.

We Get home and It's all my fault for dot's misbehavior, blah, blah, blah...

For Pete's sake we were only minutes from being done...AND I'T MY FAULT FOR DOT'S BEHAVIOR!

Dot's excuse: I was hungry...bored...million other reasons...EXCUSE ME but I did say we would get a snack on the way home since I didn't have cash and the ATM lines were monstrous or not working....And I refuse to use a credit card to get something from WENDY's, Subway, or the like.

Ok matter resolved...BTW dot normally behaves but why today?

sorry you had such a bad time of it, I think malls during the holiday season do that to people, that's why I don't even drive near them lol.

I feel myself going nutty just driving near the malls with all the wacko christmas shoppers out there nevermind going into one. Malls are just nuts! People will kill you trying to get to the next store, I hate it. Its too bad she misbehaved, maybe try again tomorrow?

I stay away from malls. I shop the discount stores like WallyWorld, Target, Meijer. The ones where u can go in the middle of the nite when the Witches of Shopping are sleeping!

Well maybe you learned your lesson not to wait this late, LOL. I know I did. I got a sitter and DH and I went to WalMart last night. I knew it would be crowded, but sheesh people, you think you're the only one shopping? Especially the toy section. It felt like we needed traffic cops to get through. DH just wanted to go home and finish later, but I kind of snapped at him because I went throught the trouble to get a sitter so we could do it together (which we've never done in our 7 years of parenthood). The most irritating part was the kids running everywhere, in the way, screaming, yelling, arrrrrghhhhhh. Some of the parents would hand them toys off the shelf just to distract them and they had no intention of buying. After one round throught the toy aisles, DH was done, but that's when I kind of snapped and told him we just have to get pushy and tell people to move. I on the other hand always made sure my cart was as out of the way as possible.

Sorry to hijack your thread, but I didn't want to start one especially when I feel your pain. ((((((((((((kidzcpa)))))))))))))))

I know it is difficult at this age (13). Looking back...It was her sassy mouth that made me leave the store...At the time she was showing no respect and the on-lookers again looked at us like we were nuts...

However, I feel the moment a child gets out of control while shopping IT IS TIME TO GO HOME. No comments but shopping is done. Plane and simple.

I have not set foot in ONE store this year for Christmas presents. All, and I mean ALL of my gifts were bought online. I don't know what's wrong with teenagers, but my 14 year old has turned into a crotchety old man. It's "grumble, mumble, grumble" all the time. Nothing is every right, or good enough, and it's all my fault--lol. I just keep telling myself, "this too, shall pass". Anyway, you can find some pretty good deals online sometimes. I was going to buy a Robosapien from amazon for 88, but I found it on eCost for like 75 (shipping and handling included). The stores are madhouses at this point--I'd rather go on "Fear Factor" than go to a mall now.

I have two boys, and believe me...it doesn't have to be just girls to cause a scene. My two were behaved most of the time but awful in crowded stores. Not to mention, my youngest was like trying to keep up with a hyena!! They are older now, and I can remember one Christmas, while shopping, my youngest didn't want to leave the dreaded toy section, and when I picked him up and carried him away, he threw the biggest fit in front of a very captive audience. By the time we had hit the door, I had no buttons on the front of my shirt from wrestling him, not to mention carrying a ton of bags. I kept calm, and got a babysitter the following Christmas.

Its been over a year since I have been in a mall... even during a non-holiday time, its awful! (Lets not even talk about store prices!)

I also never take all 4 girls with me at the same time.... anywhere! I either take 2 at a time OR I wait until 3 are in school and just take 1. I don't think I would survive if I took all 4 girls to a mall at christmas time! LOL

I've got 6 girls. 13,12,11, 5, 4 and 5 months. I only shop at walmart, target or Kmart. I learned the hard way one year when I made the mistake of taking the girls when the oldest was 5. I went into JcPenny's in our mall and it was like I let the gates flood open all three of my oldest went in three different ways. I felt like screaming!
Did anyone try and help the pregnant woman running crazy after three kids. Heck no! They just stood there and looked at me like I was a piece of gum on their shoes. I can laugh now and I do because I've learned to never go anywhere without a cart to shove all of them in. I shop at walmart the most and when my kids get cranky we leave. But then again I really don't give a hoot what others think and will tell my children to pipe it down because most of the time we are there to buy their stuff. So I figure if they want it they will behave long enough to buy it or do without. :)
The trick is to go early in the morning and leave at the first sign of trouble. If you're on a mission bring another adult if you can't find someone to watch your kids. Have the other person either spilt the kids with you or one take all and the other shop. I also bring snack foods in little baggies that I keep in my diaper bag to help.

omg I hate even just walmart. I work there thats why and Ill be glad when xmas is over. People are absolute slobs. Throwing food and coffee all over my department. THrowing things that don't belong in my department. Picking up things, looking at it, than throwing it on the FLOOR because they're to lazy to put it back. Mixing up things because they can't move their hand a whole half feet my god lol Totally stressing. People plugging things everywhere. People just have no common courtesy. If they don't want it there are carts up front that they can dump it in but to just shove their crap all over merchandise RUINS other merchandise that they so smartly placed their crap on and just makes a mess. I'll be so happy when xmas is over. Working here has made me hate xmas. People love ramming carts into you too. Taking up whole aisles and being oblivous to others. Yep i just love that holiday "spirit" people seem to have...

I remember today i was helping a lil kid look for his mommy since his mom was stupid enough not to watch him. I just heard him yelling and on the brink of crying yelling out mommy mommy and did anyone help him? No. Was his mom anywhere close? NO! I've already helped several kidds find their negligent parents who than treat you like crap because they lost their own kid lol Yes there are some nice customers but the majority just knock over displays and leave it there. I remember one woman who knocked something over and her husband said "it;s her job"... Yes it's my job to pick up after slobs lol I can clean a section and 10 seconds later it reaches havoc again. ok lol sorry think I'm done ranting myself

Thanks for leaving, I'm sure all those around you appreciated you getting a melt-down teen out of there. LOL

But stores do have to take some of the blame. The malls place the merchandise all over the place and in hard to reach places. They want to keep you in the store as long as they can so you will spend your money. Then we have to hunt and hunt. I just give up after a few minutes and leave when it's gets that hard. The even put up displays in the way so you can't get around easily.

I wish stores would have computers up front so people could see the things they are looking for. Then they will know where in the store to go find it to see it or they will know the store does not have it. That would save lots of time and not waste time searching for something that is not there. Trying to get around the maze of people throwing things everywhere. It's not worth it.
