Last week I was told that my apartment had sold, and I needed to move by the 20th. LOL---10 days notice. I did it. I managed to find a different apt, much more affordable, I move in tomorrow. The apts I lived in were not well maintained, although pretty new, the landlord was a jerk who pretended to be nice. Anyway, the point is, I found different apartments, that seem to be clean, well maintained, and a whole lot more affordable. My "best" friend said to me earlier about tomorrow being moving day. Then he said, well, these will do for now, but I know you want better and will do it. Am I nuts for that to have offended me? I just get by from day to day. I was relieved to have found anything, much less an apartment, rather than a shelter on the streets of Kansas City.

As long as you are happy, who cares what he thinks? Is he really a true friend if he is concerned about "where you live" as long as it is safe? I think people are far too hung up on what others have and own. I tend to avoid people who think that way, because I have nothing to impress them...

He probably just wasn't thinking. If you were in a "newer" apartment before, maybe he just thought you'd want to be in a "newer" apartment now. Try not to be offended. Once he sees that you're happy with the new apartment, I'm sure he'll be happy for you. I live in Kansas City too, and I've actually found the cost of living here is cheaper than it is where I moved from (Detroit suburbs), but still all my husband and I can afford right now is to live with my inlaws so I envy anyone that can actually afford a place of their own. Good luck with the new place, and congrats on finding it. :)

I was thinking the opposite..that it was a compliment..that you had a newer place and that you want to keep that way. But hey it is YOUR place and you are the only one who needs to be happy..who cares what others think..you are independent and self sufficient and those are 2 very good qualities ! :) Throw a party after ya move in and celebrate..ask your friends to bring one food/drink item to share to keep the costs down

LOL, I know what you mean about cost of living. It is next to impossible. Especially when my husband is unable to work, so it is just my income. I consider myself very blessed and lucky to have gotten this apartment. It is in a "working class neighborhood." But definitely better than where I am coming from. My "friend" has a $200,000 house with all the trimmings, which he bought when he was vp of a mortgage company here and able to afford it. Since then, he has had to refinance 2 times that I know of. I would much rather pay for myself than what he has to do...but he has the nice house and car....hes just not paying for it. I just didnt say anything to him. As for KC, would love to meet more people from here. Ive only been here about 2 years.

If he has been a good friend for a while, maybe what he said was meant to come across in a consoling way. What I mean is, maybe he figured that since you had such a short time to find other living arrangements, you just took what ever you could find and went with it. He probably is thinking that you are not very happy about the move and the apartment and he is basically saying "keep your chin up." If he is a good friend, that is probably what he meant.

Wow! A nice merry christmas from you former landlorg huh? Are you sure he isnt Ebenizer Scrooge??? Jeez how can someone make people move out in the middle of Dec? and around the holidays. I had a jerk landlord do that to me exactly 2 years ago. My DD was just a few months old and we had no place to go. It was Dec 10 and we had to pack up and move in the freezing cold 25 miles away to my bf's dad. I couldnt believe that old codger (sp?) did that to us. Esp when we had a newborn baby.
I am glad you found a place. ((((HUGS))))

I am very glad that you are happy!! But can I just add that if it wasnt in your rental agreement, what they did was illegal? As far as I know, legally they have to give at least a 30 day notice. I am glad you are in a better situation, but i would not have hurried to move, did ya get the rest of your rent for the month back? JMHO

Yeah, I was given incentive to move. Plus the rent for this month was given back. The landlord came by my work to see if we were moving yet. He seemed floored that I had been able to find a place . LOL. We start moving tonight.....
