I put a Suprise Mystery Box on Overstock.com's auctions. I normally start them out at $10.00 on ebay but decided to start this one at .01 cent. The bidding only got to $1.10 so the box of stuff I mailed was not that big. But everything in it was very nice: like pretty earrings & a necklace, some bath & body stuff and a cool temp tattoo. There might have been more but I can't remember exactly. But still the value of the stuff I put in the box was WELL OVER $1.10.
Here is the email I just received from the winner:
Dear blackberry,
hi i recieved my LITTLE suprise box today! i wasn't really pleased with it but i understand i bought a mystery. i don't believe i will buy from again unless i know what the item is. but you did ship fast and the packaging was done good. so i am undecided on how to leave feedback i just can't say GREAT. because i wasn't EXCITED! i have no clue what to do with this stuff. i don't wear jewelry because of my baby and i have a real tattoo don't need a fake one and i don't like to use certain things in my hair. i have bad allergies. well thanks for trying. hope you have a merry xmas and a happy new year. thanks ******
How would you respond? I don't want to be rude but in one breath she says she bought a mystery and then in the next breath says she doesn't like what I sent because she can't use it. Well, how am I supose to know she doesn't wear jewelry or that she has a real tattoo or that she has allergies????
This was my first winning auction and I'd like to make sure it is postive so I have offered to refund part of the shipping. I hope that is enough. I don't know what else to do.

Well first of all they got a mystery is right. They should be a little more greatful with getting anything at all.I know they paid for it but jeez not that much.I don't mean to sound hateful to your customer but if they're that worried about allergies they should have asked more questions as to what MIGHT be in it.Could it be anything that they're alergic to?Could it be anything that I may or may not use?Well, that's the chance you take when you bid on a "surprise" item.Don't worry and don't feel bad.I'd just do the refund of part of the shipping and say I'm sorry you don't care for the items and leave it at that.It sounds like a repeat customer you might not want to have again anyway.Good Luck!

I'm sorry, but I wouldn't refund anything.... when you bid on a mystery you take your chances... its not like you sent used junk.. you sent nice items... she just happens to not have use for... thats the chance she took...

if you must respond tell her that you are sorry she feels that way, but as she said it was a mystery box and how were you to know that she would detest everything she got? besides that she really didn't pay that much and isn't losing out on much. her best bet is to give these items as gifts.

This is what I ended up sending her:
Hi ******.
I appriciate you letting me know how you felt about your mystery box. The reason it is called a mystery box is because you don't know what you are getting. You are taking a chance on the contents of the box. There is no way I could know that you do not wear jewelry or that you have allergies or that you have a real tattoo. The reason the box was not huge is because the bidding only got to $1.10. The value of the items I sent were well above $1.10.
I sure would appriciate good feedback. I mean, all you have to say is "fast shipping, good packaging." if that is all you think was good about it.
Happy Holidays,
Stephanie

I would definitely not refund anything to her. She has no reason to complain. She knew it was a mystery box when she bid. I think you were very nice to her in your email.

I think your response back was excellent. If she chooses to leave you any negative feedback at all though please know that you can dispute it and have it removed from your feedback.

I am totally with DBD, "what 'cha want for a BUCK???"
If I won something for a buck, I don't think I would be expecting much, and sounds like you sent cool stuff..chalk it up to experince..this makes me laugh, kinda..

I agree, it was a small amount so you shouldnt expect to recieve a huge box. You did what you said, sent a mystery box. If shes not satisfied, oh well, you kept up your end. Very nice answer to her also. :)

Ok, thanks for all of your support with this, glad to know you guys feel the same way I do about this. Hopefully she will leave me positive feedback. I'd hate for my very first feedback to be neutral or worse.
Edited to add that she did leave me positive feedback. She gave me the highest rating and said "fast shipping, great packaging".
Good enough for me!
