Pretty sure this is where I would put this post.

I just wanted to ask other moms out there

Have you noticed all these "hidden windows" in some of these cartoons?

Here's the two that really stick out in my mind.... I know there are many more, like Spongebob Squarepants, and a few others, add more you can think of?

Rugrats : Dr. Lip****z now why name a dr. on a children's cartoon that?

Cat in the Hat : Okay I think anyone who has seen this movie seen ALL the hidden windows in it, and there was a ton!

There are so many others, why do you think they do this?

I think they do it because the kids don't get it and it makes the movies more enjoyable for the parents. Movie makers know that more parents will take their kids to see the movies if there is an adult aspect to it as well.

I don't think there is anything wrong with it because the younger kids don't even notice.

I for one, am glad they do it, becuase it does make the movie more fun for me :)

there's a powerpuff girl episode where the mayor is going to catch this flying rocket and sais "i'll get the little focker" sounded a little too much like the other word. i don't think there is anything wrong with the name lip****z. there are alot of famous doctors and scholers that have that last name.

we don't let our kid watch rugrats because one day he told us that he was going to sneak out and go to the store like the rugrats. we also don't let him watch looney toons. kids don't understand that those cartoons aren't real and that in real life when you die you stay dead.

yes with Mike Myers. They are non-stop in that movie. I don't have a problem with it either, I just wondering why would they do it. And yes my daughter told me one day she was going to go on a trip like Anglelica does, The only time I do have a problem with it is when they do things in these cartoons that is very possible for one of our littles ones to do that could acutally get them hurt. I really like my daughter watching Dora she really likes Dora too.

Ok, I'm gonna take a chance here lol

There was one part int he movie that sticks out in my mind. Cat and the kids were in the yard and cat stepped on a hoe (gardening tool) and it popped up and hit him in the face and he called it a dirty hoe. (dirty gardening tool)

I didn't care for that movie too much in general, so I don't remember anything else.

Most kids hear alot worse at home then go to school and repeat it. I heard kids in school saying stuff that would make a sailor or a trucker blush.

I think it's good that there are things in movies that adults can enjoy that a small child who shouldn't be around it doesn't really understand.. and if a 5 year old knows what a dirty ho is, I'm sorry but your problems were there before you went into the movie theatre.

I bet my parents wished there was something like that in all the Disney movies I made them take me to in the 80's & 90's.

In Rugrats, I believe the doctor is supposed to be a send up or parody of "German child psychologists who think they know it all about kids, but are "experts" in very little. " His name is just a name, nothing "dirty" or "rude" about it.

I like when films/movies/tv shows have double entendres as it makes the story seem very clever and more enjoyable. Kids really don't get these implied jokes, and if they do, it shows they are intelligent!

I hate censorship for the sake of it. I also hate the idea of kids being exposed to violence and sexual themes. It is up to the parents to decide what they like their kids to see. Some people cannot believe we let our son watch the Simpsons, but to me, it is harmless. He doesn't act like Bart and is not a maniac because of it. I don't want him growing up clueless like "ROD" and "TODD" on the Simpsons. Their dad censors everything except "Davey and Goliath" :p

I'm no prude, but I thought that movie was definitely FILTHY. I was so disillusioned with it. I can't believe that the family of "Dr. Suess" allowed it. I'm glad my kid was 20 when we saw it together.

I feel the same way about the show Hee Haw - I grew up watching it, but last week there was an infomercial about it and I laughed my butt off because I finally got the jokes.

Thank you I was just curious. 3 and 4 year old kids probably wouldn't understand a lot of what they hear. But of course they would like to mimic what they hear or see, because they think it's fun. (I can't wait to see how my duaghter's imagination shapes) You know best, and it sounds like you are doing a great job with good concerns.{{{wiggle}}}

When Ds was young, he loved the Smufs. I listened to a very long radio show once that explained how the smurfs were satanic.
DD loved The Little Mermaid when she was 5 or so. My cousin's church showed it frame by frame to warn parents of all the "filthy" images hidden in the movie.
I don't believe the smurfs were satanic and DD never watched her disney movies frame by frame.

I learned words at school that I never heard in my house (and got my mouth washed out with soap when I said them at home). My kids learned things at school that they didn't hear at home.
I think as parents we can over analyze things looking for words and images our kids would never catch or understand.

Good point, why would a church want to actually go to the trouble to show a movie frame by frame? The same as people who play LPs backwards, who would think to do something like that?

Everyone has their own opinion of what is "suggestive" and what they will or won't allow their kids to watch. I also think each child is affected differently by what they see and hear. Luckily none of my kids have ever tried or even made comment about copying what a cartoon shows. Other children may try everything they see. I still monitor what my kids watch. Obviously I wouldn't let them watch a movie or show with "adult situations", but my 7 year old absolutely loves to watch shows like Critical Hour and Trama: Life in the ER. I have absolutely no problem with letting her watch them either. but I don't let my 9 y/o or my 2 grandgirls watch it, because they have different reactions to it. Yeah they are bloody and can be gross, but she (7 y/o) finds them fascinating and shows a strong interest in what the doctors are doing to help the patients. As a bonus, she also gets to see what happens when people drink and drive and other irresponsible activities.... she dosen't see how much fun they have before being hurt, she sees the aftermath and what the end result could be. Maybe along with me teaching right from wrong, she will remember what she saw and know not to ever take that chance.

As far as cartoons go, the only cartoon I don't let my kids watch is south park. They really don't even watch cartoons that much anymore anyhow. They like to watch the kids shows on nick and disney like Rave, Lizzie Mcguire, full house... stuff like that.

I also think parents need to stop blaming movies and television shows for their kids actions. Kids don't HAVE to watch tv. In the end, parents are responsible for their kids. If you think that a show may have an effect on the behavior, then they should not be watching it. I am not talking about anyone here, but you see it everyday where parents want to blame everyone or everything but themselves for the way their kids act. I'm not buying it. If my kids do soemthing wrong (I mean REALLY wrong, not just kids stuff) it is a direct refelction upon me and I can only blame myself. A lot of parents use the TV as a babysitter and then wonder what when wrong when their kids are messed up.

WHEW!! I just hijacked your thread LOL

I didn't mean to ramble... or get OT LOL

There is a big difference between what children perceive and what adults see. There are tons of things that as a child it made you laugh but you understanding was limited. The adult watching it will see something completely different. Adults are the ones with the dirty minds, not the little kids. Adults are the ones who find the ugly images or read into something that is said that might never have been the intent of the person writing the script. Children just go along with things.

Have you ever seen a 5 year old at a book banning? Of course not. Because children do not see the world as adults do. A child would never see the satanic images in a Disney movie. That is what adults do.

I am sorry if I upset anyone, I wasn't really whineing or venting about it, I was just curious and I get bored and like to post...lol.

I let my 6 year old watch critical hour and trauma life in the er as well yes he is only 6 but i agree he just seen a episode yesturday where someone was hurt really bad for not wearing their seatbelt (and most of the time kids refer to why wear a seatbelt is there a cop??) Well now he see's why, also he seen some hurt really bad because they had been playing with a gun, also I let him watch most movies especially on the history channel, that has anything to do with the army, he has said since he was 3 years old he wants to go into the marines when he gets bigger.... again i am sorry if i upset anyone.

I'm still wondering what "hidden windows" are? Are they pop-up windows like what is on this board with certain highlighted words.

Or...are you referring to sexual inuendos?

YNKYH8R

I believe she means inuendos and adult 'like' comments that are crass or tonuge in cheek that only adults would understand.

keen9801
11-29-2004, 01:29 PM
yes that is correct Ynkyh8r...thanks

I don't mean all that I am talking about has to do with sexual meaning! I am just saying things adults see but kids aren't supposed to.

Two words....Scooby Doo ;) ;) There has always been a bit of this in shows that are designed for kids. It is more prevelant now than it was. I too let my kids watch stuff that most would be labeled bad for kids. However my kids DO know the difference between real and makebelieve. They don't try the stuff they see because they know they aren't as resiliant as the cartoon characters are. :) :)
