My youngest son ( he is almost 9 ) is having tubes put in his ears and his adnoids taken out. I understand about the tubes but not completely about the adnoids. Will he have the dissolving stitchs for those or are no stitchs necessary. Will he have much down time with either one. thanks for any help.

When my daughter had hers out she didnt have to go back with stiches. She had tonsils and adniods she went for follow up and that was it. They will tell you to limit the activity for the first day of they end up with a bloody nose.

My daughter was out of it the first few days but she was 5 and her tonsils were bad so I guess it depends on the kid. They are also known to grow back too not sure why but they have been known to. HTH

I was 8 or 9 when I had my tonsils and adnoids out. Went to the Dr. office in the morning and came home later in the ay. During summer. Very hot. All my friends came over and we ate ice cream, jello, pudding. What a party. It was to make me swallow. I seem to remember stitiches but don't know if they fell out or I had to go back to have them snipped out. Hurt like crazy but it was dessert. WOW!! 1948

My son had his adnoids out when he was 8 or so. There were no stiches... it was cauterized. I dont know if they will tell you this since mine had his tonsils out as well but they said no red juice , red jello, red popsicles, etc. That way it doesnt get confused with blood. And my son was told no ice cream because it increases flem.

Dont have any experience with the tubes though.

Good luck !!

My DD was 5 when she had her tubes/adnoids/tonsils done. There were no stitches and the worst of it for both of us was when she was in recovery, they didn't allow parents back until she was good and awake and I could hear her screaming for me through the doors... talk abouta pacing mama!!! It was only about 2 minutes from the time she woke, until I was allowed back, but it seemend like an eternity.

She did throw up a lot of blood in recovery, but they said that was normal (just wanted you to be prepared). But once we got home her throat was sore for about a week, but she only needed pain meds for the first day or 2. She has this done on a monday and she was back in school on Thursday. I felt it was too soon for school, but she wanted to go back and the dr said it would be fine.

{{{HUGS}}} Any surgery is scary when your kids are involved, so I will be thinking of you guys tomorrow :)
