So I graduated with 3 Associate degrees in June. I was supposed to begin being billed for my loans 6 months after i graduated but my parents started getting letters and phone calls in June requesting repayment. I plan to go back to school in Jan.(for my BA) . I should have no letters since it's within the 6 month payment plan. They threatened my credit, my parent's credit, etc. I wrote to them and said you're billing me too soon. They said no we're not and it went back and forth. They kept calling my parents. Sooo today I got a letter saying we apologize we now realized that you didn't finish school until june 12th. GRRR. I told them that 10 times and they wouldn't listen. I just hate that I was so worried about something for nothing. So thanks for worrying my mom for 3 months and calling her all hours of the day for no reason. I KNOW WHEN MY LOANS ARE DUE.

Yeah, I guess sending a letter saying "oops, my bad" makes it all OK.
BE SURE! to check your credit report and your parents' reports too. I would not be surprised if there was a trade line there already. You don't want to be surprised when you apply for credit somewhere.

What a pain in the butt! My friend went through that w/ Wells Fargo.. they kept telling him that his loan was going to kick in and he had to keep sending the form w/ his graduation date on it (mind you.. the same graduation date) for three semesters. They didn't get it! Finally he got it taken care of and neither of us will EVER do business w/ Wells Fargo... UGH. At least it's taken care of.. although if it was me i'd prob write them a letter telling them how rude I thought they handeled it and maybe turn them into the BBB and let them know how they handeled themselves over this situation.. you shouldn't have been harrassed like that.. *sigh* glad it's over though.

Thanks Justin. They sent me several letters saying what my credit rating is now and what it'll be if i don't repay. I was kinda rude in the letters back but I knew when my loans were due. So yeah I need to check to see if they've done anything with my credit rating. I will never ever do any kind of business with sallie mae again. OOps is not good enough for calling my parents all hours of the day.

There were certain companies I delibratly didn't get loans from because I did work study for the financial aid manager for a year. I KNEW what I was saying. I KNEW when I had to repay my loans. I'm so mad that they bugged people on my references list for no reason. I apologize is not good enough for threatening my credit and my parent's credit. Thanks for your support though I really appreciate it.

I lost my job and those filthy rats charged me $100 to defer my payments for 3 months. Thats like 33%.

That is so weird you post about this because my friend is having LEGAL issues with this company right now and was just telling me about it last night. She got a loan through them to go to college out of state but she only ended up going for half a semester(long story) but they are trying to bill her for 2 full semesters. So they are going to court over it such a mess!

I hope you get it straightened out!!

I hear you on Sallie Mae! The same goes for Fasa, Pheea, Pell & all of the rest. I have an entire file drawer filled with all of these forms. They NEVR get it right & the day the next term starts I end up spending most of the day calling & faxing back and forth (thank goodness I have an understanding boss)
Now 2 summers ago my ds graduated with his associates degree(I believe it was in June) & I do remember ole Sallie girl "reminding" him that he needed to be enrolled as a full-time student by the next semester or else he would have to start to pay the loans back.

Keep that letter in case they "forget" that you don't finish school until June 12th. I would also check your credit report and your parents credit report, they prob sent you to collections which would be reported, having a negative impact on your credit

I know this is forever ago but people replied a few months ago so I'm replying. They DID mess up my credit. They refuse to resolve it even though I keep paying. This is years later.

I would call the credit companies.. if you can prove to them you were in school and are making the payments they have to take it off.
Those dam credit companies are sure quick to put bad crap on, but not so quick to take it off

My boyfriend has had trouble, too. Because he transferred schools they thought he should have to start paying so they requested a monthly loan payment. While he was in the process of setting it up, they also sent garnishment papers to his employer. We had already been on the monthly loan payment for THREE months when his employer sent the garnishment papers back and they ALSO garnished his wages ON TOP of the monthly payments. So we were paying like $200+ a month to this freakin' place. Luckily we FINALLY got it resolved but all they had to do when they received the garnishment information back was look at his account, SEE that he was set up on a payment plan and cancel the garnishment. But NOPE, they wanted their money FAST...that was a crappy couple of months. Luckily I was working or we would have been in some trouble.

wow, read through the posts and it all makes me see red. To think that they did after all mess up your credit is terrible, as well as others that had such troubles and things couldn't be cleared up quickly.

Isn't it amazing that they can so quickly start hounding for money, garnishing wages, but so slow to be able to correct mistakes with all communication from those of you that had problems?

no wonder they are all in such financial trouble. karma, I tell ya.

I'm just thankful that it was soo long ago and far away I had to deal w/SallyMae. I recall I only had 1 loan for only 1 of the years of school. I think it was only for $2300 or something; can't remember now. I do remember my payments were $50/month.

My daughter was just trying to get loans from them for nursing school but was denied. Now she may have to drop the program because she does not have the tuition.

Sallie keeps calling my house, too. We pay them an average of $200.00 a month. They're from when Aggie received his Masters in 2000. They want to up the monthly rates. I've called them several times and have been promised that the problem would be resolved....it hasn't. Still on credit report...they call my house almost daily with DEMANDS.

My daughter had loand with Sallie Mae when she went to culinary school. She got one in her name and one in my name. They made us start paying on them 2 months after she started school. We were told when she got the loan that payments wouldn't start til after graduation. We argued with them and were told they had changed there rules so we had to start paying right away to avoid getting it put on our credit reports.
